  1. Overtime. With the Bruins leading Pittsburgh 4-1, the Wings should still be alive now. Will have a powerplay for first 1:50 of overtime. Win it now!
  2. Bad time for a high sticking penalty. Wings need to survive this penalty with 2:45 to go in a tie game or they will be officially eliminated.
  3. Tied at 4 with 9 minutes to go. Bruins up 2-0 over Pittsburgh.
  4. I mean, no surprise they couldn't hang onto the lead all the way for a win, but not even make it to intermission? 4-4 after 2. Wings were leading 4-1 with an 18-7 lead in SOGs, looked like the Wings might have a 2 on 1, it got broken up and the Leafs scored the 4-2 goal on a quite long wrister.
  5. 4-3. Good grief. Now that Matthews has 69, Leafs will be buzzing all night trying to feed him for his 70th at home.
  6. Leafs make it 4-2 midway through 2nd. Long way to go.
  7. Caps take 4-2 lead with 3 minutes to go and look like they're headed for a win. Darn.
  8. Interesting thing about the Washington situation is that the Wings could still flip the tiebreaker. Washington leads by 2 regulation wins but the Wings have more ROWs. So if the Wings go 3-0 all in regulation and Washington goes 3-0 but needs overtime for two of those wins, the Wings get the tiebreaker.
  9. Wings have come to play. What a period. 4-1 Wings after 1. Too little too late?
  10. Edvinsson gives the Wings a lead.
  11. DeBrincat actually scores? 1-1 tie. Flyers win complicates things. If the Wings don’t pick up at least a point tonight they’ll only be alive by the thinnest of margins (even if Washington loses in regulation) since Philly-Washington play each other to end the season
  12. McKinstry kills hope.
  13. Nice outfield catches by Tigers for the 3rd outs in the top of the 9th and 10th innings.
  14. I believe the Wings could be officially eliminated tonight if they lose in regulation while Philly wins in regulation and Washington wins in regulation and either NYI or Pittsburgh pick up at least a point. For the Wings to be back in playoff position after tonight, they'd need to beat Toronto, have Pittsburgh to lose in regulation to Boston and have Washington lose in any way to Tampa.
  15. Getting annoyed by some people saying "the Wings weren't expected to be in the playoffs this year" or "they're in the mix the last weekend of the season, which is all anyone could have hoped for". They have 85 points. Last year at this point they had 80 points (and finished with 80 points). Big whoop. Only reason going into the season we should have thought playoffs might be a stretch is if the cut line would be around 96 points like it often is (8th place in the West right now is 94 pts with 3 games to play). If we knew going in that 90 or 91 points would be enough to make the playoffs, then absolutely I would have said missing the playoffs would be a disappointment. That's not even considering the collapse of the past 20 games. And the 85 points includes big contributions from 35-year old Kane who might not be here next year and 50 pts from about-to-be 31 yr old Gostisbehere who might not be here next year and from goalie Lyon. Only player under 30 who took a step forward this year is Lucas Raymond. Maybe count Edvinsson getting some action here at end. No reason to think the Wings will be a shoo-in for 95+ points next season.
  16. Even the people who spearheaded Quebec's new arena have pretty much given up on the NHL. Trying to get the Habs to play a couple of exhibition games there. Teams except for the Leafs in the Greater Toronto Area don't draw well. Goes for Major Junior, AHL. Agree that Winnipeg may not be long-term sustainable. It was a fluke they got the team back. C$ is back at US$0.73.
  17. Gostisbehere is a 50-pt defenseman. That has value. I don't care if he's not "all-round" good.
  18. Yep, amazingly, if that shot by Larkin had gone in I’d have rated the Wings’ chances at better than 50/50 all of a sudden. Would like to see the Isles drop a point in OT tonight. Wings probably won’t catch them, but at the very least I don’t want NYI to have clinched going into a Game 82 vs Pitt that would be meaningless for them.
  19. Larkin had the chance to win it but couldn’t. So Karlsson buried one. Pens win 6-5 in OT.
  20. just one goal! Let’s go.
  21. Pens ice it with 1:02 in a tie game. At least get it to OT.
  22. Tie game!!!!
  23. Larkin! A glimmer of hope. 5-4 Pens with 7 minutes to go.
