  2. And over the last 19 games Cleveland has lost 1.5 games on Detroit. They had closed to within 7 games before the Tigers launched this 13-6 stretch. Win tomorrow and it’s .700 ball for a 20-game block, but even with a loss it would be .650 ball for a 20-game block. That is an impressive response to the 1-12 swoon
  3. Haha, he sailed it! 7-5
  4. 8th inning Vest. 2 on 1 out.
  5. Fox announcers being too kind to Holton. That wasn't a 9.5 out of 10 difficulty.
  6. Holton better get the #9 hitter out.
  7. “Obviously”
  8. Dan Dickerson was saying on last night’s broadcast that the Tigers could be poised to get the lead back up to double digits. Reason being that when average teams go on a surge like the Guardians have (21-9 in past 30) they expend a lot of energy doing so and tend to fall back to earth.
  9. I'm going to miss this game because I'm attending a CFL game for the first time in a decade. Montreal Alouettes at BC Lions. Won a free pair at a drawing at a bar during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Until I read the preview this morning, I knew the name of exactly two BC Lions (the QB and kicker) but I've expanded my knowledge to now know the name of the head coach, the team's best wide receiver, its league-leading running back and its Australian punter. By the way, BC Place has a capacity of around 55,000 and has been configured for baseball for several spring training games it hosted. Built in the mid-80s, extensively renovated around 5 years ago. Has a roof with the part that's over the field being able to open on nice days, but I wouldn't call it fully retractable. Will host half a dozen FIFA World Cup games next year. It simply isn't a MLB-calibre stadium. If it was, I think Vancouver would check enough boxes for a future MLB team.
  10. Tigers win! Back to 20 games above .500 for the first time in awhile.
  11. Twins haven’t scored since the 3rd inning of yesterday’s game. 16 straight shutout innings by Tiger pitchers. 7-0 Detroit after 8.
  12. Whoa, careful there Wenceel. He just smashed a liner off Tork's hip for the 3rd out of the 7th. Torkelson seems to be OK.
  13. So Morton gave the Tigers 6 innings of 0 runs 2 hits 3 walks 1 HBP pitching. Nice!
  14. Perfect game broken up. Baltimore announcers are calling it a swinging bunt, but just seemed like a soft hit ground ball to me. I think the scorer could review whether to change the hit + error to a straight error.
  15. Perfect 7 innings for Brandon Young. He went to 3-0 on the final batter of the 7th inning but got him to ground out.
  16. Brandon Young of Baltimore, who came into the game with a 0W 6L record with a 6.02 ERA and 1.56 WHIP has pitched a perfect 6 innings versus Houston. 62 pitches.
  17. Guardians lose. The Tigers' lead is 7 games.
  18. Braves extend lead over Cleveland to 2-0 in the top of the 9th.
  19. The Brewers are amazing. When the Reds jumped out to an 8-1 lead after 2 innings, you’d think surely tonight is when Milwaukee’s 12-game winning streak comes to an end. Not so fast. 4th inning now, 8-8.
  20. They're winning 1-run ballgames against sub-.500 teams. So yeah, the 11-6 feels a bit "soft". But still, the wins count in the standings.
  21. The Tigers hit bottom (we hope) three Saturdays ago, July 26. With 56 games still to go, the Tigers' division lead had shrunk to 7.0 over Cleveland, they were 3.5 games behind Toronto who led the AL, and they were 0.5 games behind Houston for the bye into the ALDS. Since then the Tigers have gone 11-6 and, apart from losing a mere 0.5 game in the standings to Cleveland and neither gaining nor losing ground with Seattle, have gained on everyone else with now only 39 games to go. The Tigers have picked up: 3.0 games on Toronto; 2.5 games on Houston; 1.5 games on Kansas City; 4.0 games on Minnesota; 3.0 games on New York Yankees; 0.5 game on Boston; 5.0 games on Texas; and 5.0 games on Tampa.
  22. Dan D and Bobby Sales didn't even think the pitch was tipped, even though the ump called it that way.
