  1. I was gone for 10 minutes! So 2 errors, really 3 errors, from what I gather? Slow grounder to 1st would have got the Yankees out of the inning at 5-0 but Cole didn’t cover the bag.
  2. That goal 10 seconds in was predictably deflating, and then a softie by Lyon and another goal and it is 6-2 Winnipeg. 10 games in, what do we think - will the Wings get the 74 pts they did in 2019 before Yzerman was hired after the season?
  3. I’m 10 seconds late getting back to the tv for the start of the 3rd period and it is enough to miss a Jets 4-2 goal. Didn’t even seem like a real play. The Jets player waved at the puck with one hand. https://x.com/ryanhanawwp/status/1851800411956457744?s=61&t=don8lQTnTq5FKXq14p2GMw
  4. Judge swinging better tonight. That home run earlier must have been such a relief. 5- 0 Yankees in the bottom of 4th. Cole has yet to allow a hit.
  5. A couple of goals by the Wings closes it to 3-2 after 2.
  6. Don't worry, the Wings' playoff chances will be 0.2% by Christmas but will call up some dudes from Grand Rapids and pluck a couple off of the waiver wire and go on an improbable run to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
  7. Good question. Yzerman inherited 4 players under 25 with more than 45 points and got rid of three of them via trade or free agency, so that was probably enough. It was already a pretty thorough gutting. By trading AA they got Vrana, a 1st and four 2nds. I guess they needed to show at least one warm body with talent up front. Another question is whether in the summer of 2023 or summer of 2024, you trade some of the younger NHLers or prospects in exchange for proven NHL talent cuts above the Comphers, Sprongs, Chiarots, Holls, etc. of the world. I would have been open to trading anyone in the organization for the right price apart from Seider and Raymond. And yes that includes Larkin, Kaspar, Cossa, Augustine and/or Danielson. You wouldn't have made much of a splash from dealing only the likes of Veleno or Berggren.
  8. Yzerman also inherited an organization that had a prospect pool ranked in the top 10 by multiple sources when he took over. Now, the Wings' turned out not to be a strong prospect pool after all, but almost as much uncertainty and need for hope with the current crop as there was back then. High hopes for Edvinsson and Danielson, decent hope for Kasper, and then a bunch of mid-1st rounders or below which is cool and all but which many teams have.
  9. Agreed. Jake Walman 1G 7A 8Pts, 28 years old, $3.4mm/yr through 2026 Shayne Gostisbehere 4G 3A 7Pts, 31 years, $3.2mm/yr through 2027 I know Walman and Gostisbehere are both flawed players. Ghost's defense and Walman's apparent "issues, whether character or otherwise. But they both bring something to the table. And under $3.5mm each, neither too long of term, is pretty cheap for contributing defensemen like that. You're not going to get top pairing d-men at that price. Instead the Wings have Chiarot at $4.75mm/yr through 2026, Gustaffson at $2mm/yr through 2026, and Holl at $3.4mm/yr through 2026. This is how Yzerman was quoted in July 2022 upon signing Chiarot. https://www.nhl.com/news/ben-chiarot-signs-four-year-contract-with-detroit-red-wings-334796422 "With several expiring contracts we had roster spots open, available, needs to be addressed and we felt we addressed positionally some needs," general manager Steve Yzerman said Thursday. "We needed simply to add players to fill out a roster, but addressed some needs, an important need at center with Andrew Copp, a right-hand shot forward in David Perron and kind of a pleasant surprise in what we consider a scoring winger in Dominik Kubalik, adding some defensemen we think we will help us on our special teams, in particular our penalty killing, and defensively 5-on-5 as well. These are all areas we talked about in the spring, areas we needed to improve upon. With some of our contracts expiring and holes in our roster, we were in a position to bring in new faces and players we think address some of these needs." So much mid. Money was burning a hole in his pocket. Is it that much different to Holland signing Nielsen, Vanek, and Helm in 2016 after Datsyuk walked? At least Yzerman was able to move on from Perron and Kubalik.
  10. The trade is fine in isolation. But yet again shows Yzerman has sputtered building any type of defense & goal corps. Has now in past 18 months shipped out Hronek, Gostisbehere, Walman, Maata. Apart from his two 1st round picks of Seider (a blue chip) and Edvinsson (potential, but jury's out with only 34 NHL games under belt), he's stuck with Chiarot (33 years old), Gustaffson (32), Petry (37), Holl (32). Two under-30 goalies in Nedeljkovic and Husso didn't pan out so now relying on 32-year old Lyon and 37-year old Talbot until Cossa and/or Augustine hopefully makes it - jury is still out. Just looking at defense and goal, ignoring forwards for the moment, 75% of the GMs in the league could have done as much as Yzerman has in 5 1/2 years.
  11. You’re safe. 11-4 Yankees headed to the 9th.
  12. Has anyone ever homered in every game of a World Series? Freeman will have achieved that if the Dodgers win tonight.
  13. I’m going to be one of the few people to give Richardson the benefit of the doubt. Out of breath is one thing. However, have you ever been out of breath but also your heart is beating rapidly, out of control. It can feel scary until that settles down. True, Richardson didn’t state that as the reason though.
  14. 4-2. Two outs in the 9th. If Torres can get on, Soto will be up. If he gets on too, then Judge would be as winning run at the plate.
  15. I’m listening to them too. I haven’t always like John Sterling and Suzy Walman but they grew on me. He is done after this year, not sure about her. This game has been something of a dud though.
  16. Probably only a few times per decade does the NFL team and the NHL team of the same city combine for so much scoring on the same day as Detroit had on Sunday. A grand total of 54 between the Lions and the Wings. 🤪
  17. “4 plays, 76 yards, in 25 stinking seconds”
  18. I’d strongly consider it. The Wings need a star. He’d be the best player on the team.
  19. And 7th oldest roster in the NHL
  20. Chris Collinsworth impressed by the Cowboys holding San Francisco to 6 1st half points “after being shellacked by Detroit”
  21. That didn’t take long. Wings, Sabres, Bruins and Leafs are in 4-way tie for 3rd, each with 4-4-1 records for 9 pts after 9 games. But it feels like the Wings 1/9 of the way into the season are closer to a bottom 5 team than a playoff team. Need to get better but don’t see an obvious source of improvement.
  22. Whew, made it to overtime.
  23. Wings take a penalty with 1:51 to go in regulation.
