Week Ten: Detroit Lions (7-1) @ Houston Texans (6-3)

OL has to be the Lions’ #1 priority in the 2025 draft. It’s a key strength, need to keep it that way. -

If Jacksonville had upset Minnesota, that would have been a nice unexpected bonus. But losses by Washington and Atlanta help the Lions' chances for the NFC #1 seed. -
I’m thinking of this more as wanting Yzerman to stay and change course/make moves. Rather than dump Yzerman, which isn’t going to happen anyways. The patient, plenty of time approach has turned into a muddle. So I’d definitely consider gunning for Marner. I’d also consider trading Larkin (do any of Winnipeg, Dallas, NYR, Carolina need him?), which seems contradictory to signing Marner but doesn’t have to be if the assets back for Larkin are younger players with upside or are draft picks that can immediately be flipped for NHL talent. Since the Wings under Yzerman haven’t proven they can score big at anything below a top 7 pick, whether that is due to scouting or development, I’d be open if the price is right to trading any picks from the 2025-2026 draft and anyone drafted 2022-2024. Basically, other than Seider and Raymond and maybe Cossa, I’d say no one is untouchable for the right deal, not even Larkin or Edvinsson. If the Wings give up on the season, they won’t end up with a top 3 pick but likely would get a top 10 pick, which if nothing else is strong trade capital.

Mac Jones is terrible. Vikings should escape.

Bucs-Niners are tied in the final minute. Jake Moody has missed 3 FGs today.

No cigars for the ‘73 Dolphins. Chiefs block a 35 yard FG attempt as time expires.

Strength of the NFC North may have been overstated. Vikings and Bears are both playing bottom feeders but midway through the 4th quarter neither has scored a TD. Minnesota up 9-7 over Jacksonville, Chicago trailing New England 16-3.

Cam Sutton just broke up a pass for the Steelers.

The one thing that the faithful have hung their hats on is that the Wings since hitting bottom in 2019-2020 (39 pts in 71 games, for an 82-game pace of 45 pts) have scored incremental improvements since then, starting with 70 pts pace in 2020-2021 (48 pts in 56 games) . But what happens if they end up with a points total in the 70s this season, which could very well happen? The lack of "build" in the re-build would be even more evident than it is today

2G 1A from Tarasenko, one of the few offseason adds, doesn't help.

Looks good on Annie Agar. Lost a bet to her Lions fan brother. https://x.com/AnnieAgar/status/1854564536537206835 -
It's the day before Veterans' Day. We're still pissed.

Hard to think of a reason to get excited about watching right now.

Goals against average, out of 51 qualifying goalies in the league. Unless one thinks Talbot and Lyon are both NHL top-10 goalies, no reason to think the Wings are even as good as their mediocre record.

3-0 Rangers late in the 2nd. Looking like a lost weekend for the Wings. A loss will put them at 6-7-1, a record that finally will reflect how they’ve been playing. Even that might be flattering.

That delayed timeout call is a fireable offense, part 576 -
Wings trail 2-1 starting the 3rd but sounds like they’re playing one of their better games? I haven’t been able to watch so am just going off a bit of Ken & Paul and a few texts from my uncle.

15 years ago, Vancouver’s CFL team needed a temporary place to play for 2 seasons while the roof of our domed stadium was being improved and the stadium renovated. Used a recreational football field in the east end of the city that had a seating capacity of 0. Parents would just stand along fences or the sidelines watching their youth play. So 27,000 seats of bleachers (some chairs, some long flat benches) were erected in 3 months for only $15mm. Then removed a couple of years later. Below is what the site looked before and after (upper pic) and during (lower pic).

By my count, only 3 teams have scored fewer goals this season so far than the Wings' 33: NYI (32), Nashville (31), Anaheim (25). Haven't factored in Games Played, so might be a bit better on a goals per game basis. On the other hand, surprised that in the Eastern Conference only Carolina, Washington and NYR have given up fewer goals than the Wings' 36.

Our old pal Petr Mrazek just made a couple of big saves with the Wings up 3-1. Eight minutes to go.

Larkin takes the lead back for the Wings. 2-1 Wings late in the 2nd

Your post got me curious about how Jakub Vrana is doing these days. Actually surprised he is still in the league, although looks to be marginally.

Trading For a Defensive End/Edge Rusher

Rich Eisen starting at the 48s mark: "I've never said this before. I don't think I've said this in my entire life. I don't know how many people in their lives in the great state of Michigan have said this. But the Detroit Lions are the best team in the National Football League.. the Lions aren't just beating up on people, they're putting them in the fetal position. They are exactly what Dan Campbell set out for the Lions to be".
