  1. Yep. This lineup would look much different if Tork even delivered 30 HR 100 RBI .800 OPS. If he can’t give that, then move on and sign a 1B who can do that. Not that difficult.
  2. He’s from Vancouver and his parents are a lovely, humble Mennonite couple. It would pain me to have to egg their home if their son comes in and shuts down the Tigers.
  3. I have a box of cassette tapes containing audio bits from just about every game from the ‘84 season. I recorded them at the time - play by play calls of Ernie, Paul Carey’s 1-minute game recap he would record for WJR, conversations between JP McCarthy and Sparky Anderson, and morning game recaps by Eli Zaret to the WRIF morning crew. I really need to digitize this because I guarantee for 90% of this material I know none of us have heard it in 40 years. Maybe this offseason.
  4. One thing I don't hear mentioned is how many Americans the Tigers have. On Thursday, all 9 hitters in the starting lineup, plus all 6 pitchers used, were U.S.-born. 2 of the 3 pinch hitters - Ibanez and Perez - are not from the States, and Montero has pitched a couple of times this series, but that's it. A win for the Tigers today would be a win for America.
  5. The Padres scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning of Game 3. That was the last time they scored this season. 24 straight shutout innings after that.
  6. And the last two NL pennant winners - Philly in 2022 and Arizona in 2023 - were #6 seeds.
  7. Quite a pitchers’ duel at Dodger Stadium. LA has just extended its lead to 2-0 on Teoscar Hernandez’ second home run of the game. Through 6 2/3 innings, 3 hits for the Dodgers just 2 hits for the Padres.
  8. He already has a lot on his plate because the Tigers retained his services to procure the champagne and cigars for series-clinching celebrations.
  9. I’ve actually liked this TBS crew. Brian Anderson’s call of the Carpenter home run arguably was better than that of Dan Dickerson.
  10. Well, early for me at 10:08am Vancouver time, but if it means a better chance of Skubal’s not being interrupted by rain or delays, then it’s worth it.
  11. Addition by subtraction? Not that Holl is much of an upgrade if at all.
  12. Similarly, a timeline of seven proposals for ballparks in Oakland over the years. Suprised they only date back to the turn of the century, as I had heard complains about Oakland's stadiums since the '80s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_Ballpark
  13. Cinderella with a league-leading $300mm payroll.
  14. Maybe Carp can be ready enough to hobble up to the plate as a pinch hitter like Kirk Gibson for an unforgettable 9th inning home run.
  15. Few if any softies on this month's schedule. But I'm more concerned about the Wings' play. Only one game, I know, but what I saw was ugly.
  16. Goal waved off. Still 4-2.
  17. 5-2. I got a mean text. “detroit red wings more like destroyed red wings”. I don’t like when my daughter does that!
  18. Yep, 7 outs away from the ALCS is as close as they might be for the next few years, even if they keep getting better. Look at Baltimore. I will be very disappointed if they lose Saturday. The season will have been a success, but I’ve allowed my expectations - or at least my hopes - to rise.
  19. Tigers lose, Wings losing. I’ve got the ol’ man blues.
  20. 3 goals in 2:43 is what happened.
