  1. I learned a few other things too, from Wikipedia. - When he was having control problems in 1976, he went to a Catholic priest who doubled as a hypnotist and after putting him under several times cured him of his fear of getting fit. The fear had been understandable - Joe had fractured his skull in 1971 after getting hit by a Ted Simmons liner, and was hit by a line drive a dozen times in 1974. - When with the A's in 1978, Charlie Finley tried to send him to the minors, Vancouver, but he refused to report. Hey! - He is the father of Casey Coleman who pitched 58 games for the Cubs and Royals in the early 2010s, making them and Joe's dad MLB's first trio of 3-generation pitchers - Joe was the pitching coach of the Lakeland Tigers from 2007-2011 And here's Joe pitching a shutout in the '72 ALCS
  2. In fact, the top 5 MLB teams - Detroit, LA, Houston, Chicago Cubs and Toronto - all lost today. Today, the peasants revolted. Friday, the dominators will crush the rebellion, starting with Skubal and the Tigers at the battle of Comerica.
  3. Coleman pitched a complete game 3-hitter in the 2nd Tigers game I ever attended, in August 1974, to beat Vida Blue and the A’s. https://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores/boxscore.php?boxid=197408310DET
  4. One of the first Tigers pitchers I remember.
  5. Tigers lose. Fine. You have to throw the rest of the American League a bone now and then.
  6. Time for Chase to get chased. 6-3.
  7. 3 hits in 5 pitches, two of them for extra bases.
  8. Tigers running wild.
  9. When has Jack White ever been happy?
  10. I assess little likelihood of him saying "if I ain't startin', I ain't departin;".
  11. Dodgers have been swept for the 2nd straight series and now have lost 6 straight. What a shame, you have to feel for their fans.
  12. Wasnt' that rundown on Tork for coming towards McKinstry?
  13. He clearly has taken advantage of the MLB app to improve his baseball vocabulary. I wonder if he has taken a hack at which former MLB player or manager said a certain quote.
  14. Jays’ win streak is over. It’s about time, that crap was getting old.
  15. That’s a hell of a carom.
  16. Scenes from a Canadian summer. https://edmontonjournal.com/sports/hockey/nhl/cult-of-hockey/bam-hockey-world-reacts-as-ex-nhl-fights-on-an-alberta-golf-course
  17. This is the MLB Free Game of the Day. I can watch it free on my PC, iPad or phone but lately the MLB app on my Samsung TV has been locking the “free” games.
  18. Yes, I believe (not certain) the current 3.5 game lead over Houston is the Tigers’ high water mark for the season with respect to AL lead. And the Yankees have fallen 8 back of the Tigers, Tampa 9.5 and Seattle 10. I don’t think Tampa with so many road games left will make a run and I don’t think Seattle is good enough to make up so much on the Tigers unless they sweep them this weekend. So it’s really just Houston, Toronto, and possibly NYY standing in the way of the Tigers and a bye - the Tigers just need to finish ahead of two of those three.
  19. Guardians get a 2-out grand slam in the 10th, lead 10-6. Tom Hamilton is happy.
  20. 5 straight wins and 8 of 10. Good, the Tigers had been temporarily treading water for a bit in June.
  21. The Athletic says the Tigers are like Teri Hatcher’s breasts.
  22. Dodgers have been outscored 38-7 in their last 4 games, all losses.
  23. I think Gavin McKenna is a special case. Overall, there might be only as much NIL in college hockey as in women’s gymnastics.
  24. Guardians snap their 10-game losing streak with a win over Houston.
