  1. Wings have to win tonight. This is it.
  2. Bingo. They make you feel great. When I had back issues (I still do, I just learned to live with it), taking the opiods not only made me feel good, but I could get **** done. If there were no side effects, I'd say put it in the water, it'd make us a happier society. The bigger question is why do so many people need them in the first place? Why are so many of us hurting?
  3. I might have one last free pair of tickets to see Adam Ant and The English Beat on Friday at Masonic Temple in Detroit. If you are interested, I need to know by Noon Tuesday. FCFS
  4. Plus he had great advice for growing tomatoes. Well, at least for Alice Sweet, he did.
  5. Exactly. Does this judge often cut bond amounts to a third? You know, for the lunch pail suckers like us who don't grift people? If he won tonight's lottery he would still beg people to pay this for him. And about protecting the wealthy. Remember Eric Crouch. Underage kid gets hammered, gets behind the wheel and kills 4 people and his judge used the "Affluenza" defense. And it ****ing worked. Judge should have been investigated in that case.
  6. Baltimore and Toronto can't meet in the World Series.
  7. Javy had hits in the last 3 games, so maybe he's coming out of the funk or maybe with the season drawing near his intensity level is getting sharper. I don't think Spring Training means a whole lot to veterans who have a guaranteed spot. I hope so, because if he could be north of .250 BA than that would be great. Not much to ask for 25 mil a year, but I'll take it over last year's disaster.
  8. Exactly. First of all people act like the Tigers didn't even try to sign any one of the big ones, but maybe they did and they were met with a hard NO or the demand was way too steep. I am very glad they didn't pay Sonny Gray the contract he got at his age. He'll help the Cardinals for a year or two but I wouldn't want that deal here. Cody Bellinger? Why? We need our young OFers to play and get ABs. Matt Chapman? Maybe they tried and were just told no. I'll keep saying that it reminds me of everyone going crazy over Rich Aurillia back in the day. Not only did we avoid that horrible deal, but it got us Carlos Guillen who was one of the key players in their comeback. Aaron Nola was off the board immediately. There was never any shot at Ohtani or Yamamoto. Not sure on Snell. I doubt he'd come here without a ridiculous price. I think they actually got two pretty good starters for a good price. Not expecting Cy Young awards, but both pitchers are solid and Flaherty has something to prove - I think. They both seem motivated. I'm fine with their offseason.
  9. Next numbers to be retired #6 (acknowledge it already) #91. Come on, stop being childish about this. You're lookin stupid here #16 You might as well, it's kind of retired now anyway #30 deserves strong consideration I know eventually #13 and #40 will be up there too. Yep, it should be #1 Sawchuk #4, Kelly #5 Lidstrom #6 Aurie #7 Lindsay #9 Howe #10 Delvecchio #12 Abel #13 Datsyuk #16 Konstantinov #19 Yzerman #30 Osgood #40 Zetterberg #91 Fedorov That's a lot of numbers, but it's a storied franchise. The way things are trending #71 may join them one day
  10. As a Red Wings fan I am sure that you are aware that nobody in our lifetime has worn the #6, except one player, Cummy Burton (what a name), we'll get back to that later. . Are you aware that the Red Wings #6 is actually retired? Yes, it's true. It's retired in the name of a scrappy right winger named Larry Aurie. Aurie was the first Red Wings captain and lead them to their first every Stanley cup Aurie, who was 5 foot 6 and 145 pounds was willing to fight anybody, regardless of size. One former teammate said "He'd fight a Tiger and win if it meant winning a game" Red Wing owner James Norris was so impressed of Aurie that he retired his number in 1938 when Aurie's broken ankle ended his career. Cummy Burton was allowed to wear it because he was Aurie's nephew and Aurie's widow gave her blessing. The last time Burton wore that number was 1959. Aurie died from a stroke at the age of 47 in 1952. I'm sure all the helmetless years in hockey played a role in that, and that's another reason to honor him. His number was up in the rafters at Olympia until Mike Illitch moved the team to Joe Louis Arena where it was ordered removed. Nobody knows why and the Illitch family will not acknowledge this in any way. So today, still, nobody wears #6, but it sits in some sort of limbo. It's ridiculous. It's like Mike Illitch didn't know who he was and then when others pointed it out he stubbornly refused to be corrected. My friend Bernie Czarnecki worked as a page editor for the Free Press and wrote a great article about this. His press credentials were then cancelled. I stood outside in the cold one night outside on the sidewalk of Hockeytown Cafe handing out flyers with Bernie to tell fans the story. The cops threatened to arrest us. When we asked for what he said "I'll think of something". Big dang ol' buncha bull****, if you ask me. And you might as well retire #16 if you're never going to issue it. If the accident wouldn't have happened, Vladdy would have wound up earning that anyway. And get over your petty anger at Sergei and put #91 up there too.

  12. I used to be forgiving of him, but then when he admitted it he A - did it on the day of the HOF announcement, stealing headlines from Fergie Jenkins, the first Canadian inducted, but then he B - Did it to promote a book and then C - Signed the book the next day at a Casino. Once he asked for forgiveness and then turned around and signed at a Casino, I was done with him. Degenerate. Don't care how MLB is cool with gambling now, Rose is scum.

  14. Reading about how Sutton has been having blackouts for years, even DURING games, going back to college. Starting to think he might be dead now. I am starting to think that pretty much all non-Kicker/Punter players have some degree of CTE
  15. This pre season has been a total disaster. 19-9 record? Teams always do the opposite when the season starts. That means another 9-20 start. Season's over before May 24th. So sick of this.
  16. I think it's Faedo and Wentz that make it. Wentz because he's left-handed and breathing.
  17. What's left to decide, 1 or 2 bullpen spots, or is that sewn up? We know the 13 position players. We know the rotation.
  18. We're not used to having our pro football team draft really well for consecutive years. When that happens you end up having to pay those guys to keep them. That starts this year and that's why you don't go for contracts like Sneed's This team is better. Got within 3 points of an NFC title with a very young team and a kicker the coach had no confidence in. They'll improve simply from experience and getting a better kicker. The pieces they added will make them better and they still have the draft in a month. Signing another veteran CB would help because even if they draft one in the first round, it gives that player a little time to learn. That's probably the toughest position to learn (outside of QB) in football - another veteran gives the rookies a little time. I think they'll draft 2. CB - Edge - Guard - CB - WR - K ? Could they take a step back this year? Sure. But they are building this team to last a long time and if Brad keeps drafting this well, we'll want heads to roll after a 9-8 season.
  19. Maybe the answer to my question about having another SS is Gio.
  20. Aren't Dawel Lugo, Jose King or Sergio Alcantara ready yet? (worst Tiger trade in my lifetime)
  21. Well you remember when that rich guy Leo Farnsworth bought the Rams and then wanted to make himself QB. He was in his 40s. He would have made the team if he had have disappeared. What was season that was for the Rams. First their QB, Joe Pendleton gets hit by a truck on his bike and killed and then their owner vanishes and they still win the Super Bowl.
  22. Whomever they send down (I think it'll be Red Cheeks), I think that person will likely be in the rotation by April 15th. It's been a parade of injuries for starting pitchers and the Tigers fans are the ones walking behind with giant shovels to pick up the poop.
