Week Four: Detroit Lions (2-1) @ Green Bay Packers (2-1)

Idk why but Love just strikes me as the type of QB that will either go out and look like an MVP or go out and look like he should be a backup. -
2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread

I think it's cool that the Lions play on Thursday instead of Sunday this week so Miggys last game can be the focal point of the Detroit fan and news coverage that day. I guess it still might be an afterthought but I think if the Lions were playing it probably would get alot less attention by everybody. -

I read last week that the Tigers starters have the best ERA in baseball since the start of August and considering there last handful of starts I imagine that is still the case. Getting 2 months of arguably the best starting pitching in baseball can go a long way. Hell and this was after trading Lorenzen, EROD reverting back to the mean and Manning getting injured. Fetter and everybody else that has had a hand in it should be walking around the clubhouse like a bunch of bosses. -

My AAT Parker Meadows is trying to finish the year strong, he got off to that hot start when he got called up only to come down to the Earth and hit a horrible stretch of a few weeks but now he is starting to climb his way back up. Getting his OPS back close to league average after tonight's home run. -

I can't say for certain but my memory tells me that the Lions ran some screens with Swift last year, I specifically remember a TD he had against Washington but maybe that wasn't a screen, instead him just being a checkdown. I'd have to go back and watch the highlight. -

The screen pass to Gibbs sounds good on paper and to the layman like me it does seem like a good idea but I just have to tell myself that Campbell and Johnson aren't complete idiots, its not like the thought of a screen pass hasnt crossed their mind so there has to be a reason why it hasn't been called. I'm guessing it has something to do with the patchwork o line cause for screens to work you need precision and perfect timing between your o line, rb and QB and maybe Johnson and Campbell just don't have the confidence in the backups to pull that off right. -

Maybe all the teams with open positions will have the same mindset as TP in which case Johnson won't even get an interview. -

Btw even though the game is on Prime nationally I just found out that in the Detroit and GB markets you can watch it on Fox so if you live in the area and you're one of the 7 people besides me on Earth that doesnt have prime you don't have to worry about signing up for it to watch the game. -

The only fear I may have with Goff going forward is how he might fair if/when our o line isnt as good as it is now. He gave me some concerns Sunday after he missed a bunch of different throws after he was starting to get pressured but that could just be a bad half that happened to coincide with the pressure or it could be that he hasnt been pressured like that in awhile so it made him especially flustered. -

Even if you want to give all the credit to Johnson the fact is in that case he has shown the blueprint to maximize Goff, Campbell and future OCs aren't dummies they will be able to make use of that info and copy it. -

I still think Goff got injured in the week 2 game at Lambeau his first year here. He made a big mistake in week 1 but otherwise made some good throws and looked solid. Then in week 2 the first quarter and a half he was throwing dimes and looking like an All Pro then he took a couple big hits and looked completely different after that. There was a point in the season where he couldn't complete a pass more than 10 yards down the field. Then he took a week off cause he finally accepted he needed time off from the injury and returned to finish the season winning multiple Offensive player of the week awards and really hasn't looked back since. -

I remember during draft day commenting on the fact that he had "Spenny T" as his twitter handle and how that knocked him down a few pegs in my eyes. -

Jacksonville's struggles is surprising to me, I was one of those people that thought they were gonna be a good team this year. I guess it is just another example that progress you made to end the previous years doesn't mean you are going to carry over or progress the next year since that's why myself and I assume the others believers expected big things from them. I just expected their young players to continue to get better but as of now it appears that just hasn't been the case. -

Oh I thought I saw on twitter that they were at the 40 something yard line, yeah that changes things a bit but still don't think I hate the call. I just think it's so hard to stop offenses when they know they have 4 downs to play with so even if they punted away I think there was a 50/50 chance(same as you picking up the 1 yard and guarantee win) of Minnesota driving right down to the red zone anyway. -

Considering the Vikes were down 4 and needing a TD and were in guaranteed 4 down territory, I just don't think there is THAT much difference between having to go 40ish yards or the likely 75 yards if you punted it away. The toughest part for them was always going to be closer to the goal line when the field is condensed. Basically the thought of gaining 1 yard and guaranteeing a win was well worth the risk of giving them a shorter field. Not to mention the side benefit of giving them a shorter field is that IF they do score a TD you are likely to get the ball back with more time than if they had to go all the way down the field. -

I want to commend Holmes for drafting Branch but on the other hand I want to question him on how he passed on him 3 times before doing so? Looks like such a special talent. -

I wasn't watching the game when it happened so it's probably not fair for me to comment on it but in a vacuum I agree with the decision by Staley to go for it there on 4th down vs. punting it away. Don't agree necessarily with the actual play he called but the decision I do. -

I was about to say that was about as good of defensive series you could have that resulted in you giving up points.
