Week Fourteen: Detroit Lions (9-3) @ Chicago Bears (4-8)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Looks like the Lions actually caught a break by the ball being intercepted, of course with the crappy defense all it means is that the Bears are just going to have another 90+ yard scoring drive vs. a 65 yard one. -

Glenn finally dials up a little wrinkle in the defense and look at that something positive actually happened. -

Anzalone should've sat out another game, like the rest of the defense he's been a straight up disaster thus far. -

Just too easy man, I tried to defend Glenn but seeing no improvement and the same stuff every week makes even me want to throw in the towel on him. -

Don't like having the defense on the field first. -
I think on most teams you could argue that you'd prob be better served spreading that 70mill a year out on a few diff players but with the Dodgers being so stacked its hard to find the places where say 3 really good players would be big upgrades over what they are already putting out there.

The Mariners and Jays appear to be set up to be contenders in the near future but you never know how long term that is going to be, where as with the Dodgers going on 20+ years of contending every year you can feel much more confident that say 4 or 5 yrs down the road you're not going to be in a situation like the Angels again.

I love when the YT algorithm randomly brings up a vid from 15 yrs ago. The early days of yt always had great vids like this one.

Don't know how many starters are going to play since they just got done in the in season tourney championship but regardless the Pacers are prob gonna score 150 on us. -

The losing is bad enough but it's the way they are losing that is the real kicker. I remember the years we tanked in 20 and 21 we would lose but were atleast competitive most nights. You had your blowout here and there but most nights we were in the games till atleast the middle of the 4th before ultimately fading. This year they are just total blowouts where we are done by halftime or mid 3rd at the latest. During this 19 game losing streak you could count on 1 hand how many games they had a legit shot at winning by the mid point in the 4th and you'd still prob have a couple of fingers to spare. -

Yeah I was expecting Anzalone to be out a 3-4 games judging by Campbell's comments so only missing 1 game is an unexpected surprise. A rare one when it comes to Lions injuries as it seems that guys usually are out longer than the initial prognosis. -
Haha suck it Yankees! Hopefully for his and the Blue Jays sake he passes all their medical tests though if they haven't done so already.

I meant with them surfacing, just feels like there maybe some sorta agenda for it to come out now.

Between their so so record this year and now those assanine 9/11 comments I wouldn't be shocked to see McDermott get fired. If so that could be a good landing spot for Harbaugh if this is the year he actually goes back. Im just basing that though on their talent level and having an established qb in place, I don't know about management and ownership so maybe there are potential pitfalls there with him.

Watched the Lakers game last night and as much as I dislike him its unbelievable how good LeBron still is after all this time. Still a top 5 player in this league.
-
The Bears basically sewed up the number 1 pick since I can't see Carolina winning atleast 2 more games.
-
Not to mention playing for a better team and from what I read on twitter he apparently also liked the fact that he could live in Arizona year round.

I guess either way it all falls on Weaver since he is in charge but how much is to blame for the Pistons player development? Like would these guys have turned out better if they were with franchises that excel at that or were they just bad acquisitions that were destined to fail regardless? -

Being born in 82 Im grateful to enjoy successful Detroit teams while in my 20s. Had less responsibilities so I could go to big games or go out with friends to the bars for them. I turned 30 during the 2012 WS where the Tigers got swept, that was an omen for what Detroit sports was gonna be like for me in my thirties. -

Its amazing how virtually every decision Weaver has made has turned out to be the wrong one. Not just moves he made either, also moves he didn't make most notably not trading Jerami Grant at the first trade deadline after we signed him. Everybody knew his value wasn't going to be higher and that we weren't going to be contending by the time his contract was up anyway so might as well trade him then. -
Looking at his stats I don't see what the Tigers see in Coker, maybe something stands out in his statcast numbers? The minor league Rule 5 draft isn't the same as the majors where you have to keep the guy on your big league roster(or 40 man?) all season?

Agreed, from an on the field standpoint it just seems like way too much money to throw at somebody who if he doesn't pitch will have to resort to playing a corner position. He probably would be really good there, but still that limits his value greatly. Also aside from this past season he really hasn't been a true offensive force relatively speaking posting a career OPS+ of 140 prior to this year. That's obviously really good but if he indeed ends up just being a corner OF that number wouldn't make him worth close to 40 to 50 million a year. Now if you think he is more likely to be like he was in 2023 where he was at 184 then it starts to become worth it but that's not something I would bank on for a player in their 30s. But this is just for on the field worth, like you said who knows how much money he would bring in from a marketing stand point and if you're a major market team that doesn't need to maximize your WAR to $$ output then it might just be worth it for you.

It was only 4 years but Bobby Ross deserves some love for going 8-8 and 9-7 in 99 and 00 with that sorry squad he had to work with.
-
To me it's fanbase first and foremost followed by just the overall cache of the team, that's a little harder to define or quantify but basically the likelihood somebody will tune into your game even if you aren't a fan or just care about you in general even if you aren't ranked near the top in the polls. For instance you could argue that before 2021 Michigan was a good but not elite program on the field for atleast the previous 15 years yet they still would draw monster ratings, big crowds and buzz, to me that is a sign of a "big brand".

The glass half full side if we were to win the lottery is that people said alot of the same things about the 2020 draft and you could argue that Edwards and Haliburton may be better than anybody from the 2019-2023 drafts so who knows....of course I can't say that I trust Weaver to find that guy(s) if there is somebody like that in this class.
