To me IF the Bears job were to come open that would be the most attractive to me if I were a potential HC, atleast from a roster, cap and draft capital standpoint. Don't know much about their management/ownership but they atleast have potential to build a really good team if they don't screw it up.

12/21/23 @ 7 PM EST Utah Jazz @ Detroit Pistons

Pistons starters get off to a relatively good start up by like 5 or 6 through 8 minutes...Monty then brings in the all bench unit and Utah immediately flips it and is now up 6. -
Unless he really likes Bryce Young I wouldn't go to Carolina if I were him. Most coaches either like the QB where they are going or have the flexibility to bring in somebody they do but considering Carolina just drafted him at number 1 and gave up a bunch of resources to get him they are going to make sure they see him through for better or worse. Atleast with Washington if he doesn't like Howell he will be in position to draft his replacement this draft. Currently they are sitting at 4th but if they lose out and Zona and NE win 1 more they could move up to 2. Even if that doesn't happen and he can't get Caleb or Maye there are still other options he could get at 4 or 5 unlike Carolina who has no pick. Of course with Carolina he will be playing in a MUCH easier division, smaller market and less demanding fan base/media. I bring up those last two cause he seems pretty introverted so not sure how well he would be able to cope with all the scrutiny of a bigger market team and media.

Week Sixteen: Detroit Lions (10-4) @ Minnesota Vikings (7-7)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
If you're a superstitious person I just heard that it is a "white out" in Minny on Sunday so they will be wearing all white unis so that means no all white for the Lions who are undefeated in dating back to our turn around last year. -
I certainly wouldn't blame a team for doing whatever it takes to get him considering how well some other hot OCs have done like Shanahan and McDaniel but I also think it is worth noting that just cause you are a great playcaller/schematic guy doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be a great HC so I would be a bit apprehensive about paying top dollar to somebody that has never been one before. Also I know it pains some people to admit but the Lions do have a very talented offense particularly on the O line along with great pass catchers, RBs and a dependable QB. Who knows he may be good enough to make it work with anybody but if I was a team with a pretty empty cupboard I'd temper my expectations on what he could do right from the start.

Also you have to factor in how other teams may or may not have improved. For simplicity sake let's say this year's Pistons are no better or no worse in a vaccuum than last years but if every other team in the league got a little better via acquisitions or just improvement within then its obviously a net negative for us. -
Eric Haase signs a 1yr contract with the Brewers so good for him getting atleast 1 more year of an MLB paycheck.

Unless there is indeed a power struggle with Rodgers and Aaron wants him out I don't see Saleh getting fired. He will get a free pass for not having his starting qb all season.

Week Sixteen: Detroit Lions (10-4) @ Minnesota Vikings (7-7)

Yeah my thought process was that he would be the perfect fit for SF. Basically a better and cheaper version of Jimmy G, or like how Matt Ryan was under Shanahan. I didnt feel Mac was the type of guy that could excel in any situation or without help(most can't) but with the right situation he could put up Pro Bowl numbers much like Purdy is doing this year. -

It may have been Tater, Hell I was a big Fields fan myself but I didn't want the Lions taking him cause Im of the belief that you build up your team first then take your qb. That and I wanted to see what Goff could do in a new situation. -

Pretty sure that was tp. I would mock him but I said the 49ers were stupid for passing on Mac Jones so that wasn't any better. -

Atleast on here I think Sewell was the concensus hope by everybody going into the draft. Iirc I basically had him, Chase and Pitts as the three I wanted most. If they were gone then a trade down was what I wanted. -

Especially considering it wasn't like he was some unknown diamond in the rough player that a team discovered. He was heavily hyped, had no off the field concerns yet fell to number 7. I guess we lucked out that teams fell in love with guys like Wilson, Lance and Pitts. Also to be fair that draft was kinda tricky with so many top players either not playing at all or playing limited amount of time the previous season due to COVID. -

I used to have the mentality that it the team is horrendous then their best player may but be as good as the stats show but I learned my lesson there with SGA. When it was rumored OKC would trade him for Ironically the Cade pick I didn't want the trade cause of that mindset. I thought "how good could he actually be if the team still sucks?" well it turns out he is pretty damn good and he can be the top dog on a contending team with the right pieces. -

That's quite a disparity between 1 and 2 but like all PFF stats I don't treat them as gospel but Sewell clearly has been elite this season particularly in run blocking. He hit a bit of a rough patch by his standards earlier in the year where he was getting called for some penalties but it appears that is behind him now. -

In regards to RZ efficiency there have been multiple times this year where teams were in the RZ but instead of kicking FGs like they otherwise would they went for it and unfortunately would convert and end up with a TD. The announcers would always speculate that the team did it to keep up with the Lions and Campbell's aggressiveness. Long story short maybe that number is partially due to what we do on offense. -

Here's a scenario, we got 2 minutes left in OT and we just got the ball on our own 30, A win OR TIE secures the division, do you play it safe and just run out the clock insuring the tie or do you be aggressive and try to win which also brings up the possibility of a loss? -
My main memory of baseball players having jobs is of Dave Bergman. I remember being like 5 or 6 and watching a telecast and they brought up how Dave was a stock broker in the offseason, my Dad replied with something about he probably makes more money doing that then being a baseball player. Meanwhile me hearing the word "stock" thought a stock broker was somebody that worked at the supermarket stocking groceries, I was like "wow didn't know grocery workers made more than baseball players".

I was a Pickens advocate prior to last year's draft, thought he would have been a good pick up in the 2nd round(before we traded up for Jamo) but judging by plays like this among others Ive seen its a good thing that never happened cause he'd never see the field here with that effort or lack there of.

Its definitely better than regressing but yeah I'm with G2 its hard for me to get too excited about it when the team is still getting blown out every night. -
How did guys spend their offseasons back in the day? Like I used to be led to believe they essentially treated as a true offseason to rest and recover. Is there any truth to that? Just wondering cause that goes against alot of todays players mentalities. I don't know about all guys but judging by players social media I know many are at places like driveline or other private places chucking baseballs for a good part of the offseason.

I was always hyper critical of the Lions and my sports teams in general till 2013. The Lions fell apart down the stretch that year and the Tigers choked against the Red Sox in the playoffs and I don't know something just changed in me. I still support all my teams but if they lose it's like it bothers me at first but then just get over it, before then it would hang with me for days after. It was like live or die with me. I also was the guy in the game threads, particularly the Tigers but also the Lions bitching about everything they did that didn't work but now it's like I will point it out and it will bother me but nowhere like it used to. Maybe it's because I'm getting older or more than likely the state of Detroit sports has sucked for so long I just kinda become apathetic to it but whatever the case I think it has been better for my sanity.

Pistons lose again. Just for S&Gs the Pistons have 9 wins this calendar year, the Lions have 12. -
The fact that the Steelers are even 7-7 with what they have to work with on offense should be a credit to Tomlin. It's hard to win in this league with no play makers and a bad QB. They could use an upgrade at coordinator that is more creative I do agree with that aspect but even so Pickett just has so many limitations along with the aforementioned lack of play makers it would take a real miracle worker to get much out of that offense.
