It’s been 17 years since these teams last met and John David Booty and Dwayne Jarrett torched Morgan Trent and the Michigan defense in the Rose Bowl. I had this game circled as a loss on the Trojans schedule before the season started based on Michigan’s strong defense and USC’s inexperience on both lines and their suspect defense. Thus far Michigan’s defense has been suspect and USC has played like a veteran team with great play from both lines. That’s college football. As for today, if SC plays like they did against LSU, they win handily. They have a huge coaching advantage and have had a week to work on a gameplan. If Michigan steps up on defense and gets great play from their NFL prospects and can hit a few big plays in the run game on offense, they can win on home turf. I know most of you have given up on the season but late money is starting to move in favor of Michigan. Should be a good one today and the start of a new conference rivalry. It’s behind a paywall so I can’t read but I have a hard time believing that Campbell actually said that quote. The Lions history certainly doesn’t warrant anyone getting that upset over losses. Definitely not toward the most beloved coach in franchise history. He’s a funny guy so maybe he made a joke. He’s making a lot more money and could’ve just wanted to move into a bigger mansion.

10 games to go and I think 8 wins gets them in the playoffs. It’s possible even 7. I’m not even sure that Minnesota will be the team we are chasing. I can see KC folding up and going 3-6 or worse in their last 9 against SF, Wash, and Atl.

Would you be unhappy with the series if they lost today? I wouldn’t. I’m ok with 2 out of 3 this weekend too. This is the tough part they need to get through against playoff teams to give themselves a chance. Next week is a different story. They need to step up and win at least 5 of 6 against lesser teams with nothing to play for. Those are the must wins.

At least it’s a real injury, broken shoulder blade, instead something like the finger injury that kept him out for a month last season.
