I’m not expecting much from the Lions today. Lots of teams that won’t make the playoffs will overpay this week. Hearing that the desperation along with raising salary cap is going to create some head scratching deals for average to good players.

Tobias coming back should help. He’s a bit polarizing with the fanbase but the staff views him as one of their most important players.

Stevie has done a great job of drafting and adding prospects. That can’t be denied. He’d be a fantastic Director of Amateur Scouting. Maybe one of the best in the league. It’s another story as a GM. He’s made a ton of mistakes that have directly slowed this rebuild. He’s done a terrible job of signing free agents and using his cap money to his best advantage. You mentioned a few of the awful trades and FA’s that he made. His decisions on goalies have been especially bad. He absolutely 100% hired the wrong coach in Lalonde and then stuck with him far too long. So many misses that all fall at Stevie’s feet. The GM of any hockey club has to own those mistakes and be accountable for them.

This is true for **** franchises that have no real history of success. See Buffalo, Ottawa, Anaheim. It shouldn’t take a serious franchise with quality leaders and accountability to get back to competing for a cup. Colorado was the worst team in the league in 2017. They made the playoffs in 2019 and won the cup in 2023. Florida missed playoffs in 2018 & 2019. They won the President’s Cup in 2022 and the cup last year. It shouldn’t take the Red Wings 10 years. There’s been a lot incompetence and poor decisions from the top.

I think he’s getting behind George as his long term guy or at least wants to see how handles that role. Putting a green Antonelli in makes Russell the unquestioned #1. It wouldn’t have been quite as clear had he gone with a Sainz, Perez, or even back to Bottas. George’s car got better at the end last year while Lewis’s didnt. I can see it going either way for Merc. Either fighting 3-4 or dropping way down and white flagging it.

DTS shows how big of a gamble Toto is making giving Kimi Antonelli a seat at age 18. Toto thinks he’s next great one and this will either turn out to be brilliant or a disaster. I don’t see much middle ground seeing as he passed up on many more experienced drivers.

Wasn’t super excited for this season of DTS. The last few seasons have been just ok. I’ve got to say the first three episodes this season have been fantastic.

This team is a reflection of its GM. No sense of urgency and a lack of accountability for not winning.

I’m surprised none of the playoff contenders were interested in Patrick Kane.

Unfortunately, Mrazek is signed through next year with a $4.25 cap hit. Talbot is signed for $2.5. Takes up a potential spot for Cossa next year too. Making matters worse they just said on 97.1 that Mrazek has been statistically the worst goalie in the league since Decemeber . Thats not confirmed though.

Do you think he buys, sells, or does nothing today? I think he should be looking to sell but will be buying. The standings say they are still in the playoff hunt but they have a tough schedule and many teams to overcome for just 2 wc spots. Any other GM in the league would be concerned about their job status and would 100% be buying to try to save their job. Since Yzerman has a special relationship with Chris, I don’t think his job is one the line at all.
