Honestly the signing wasn’t that bad when you take into consideration our bullpen last year. The bigger problem is almost across the board everyone is worse than where they were. I think they felt one more back end arm would be enough to keep wear and tear down and they don’t need a top tier arm anyway so why not take the experience. Then injuries and regression happened. I think there is plenty to blame this year including Hinch and Harris but I just can’t hold them completely accountable for a year where there’s lots of injuries and then people playing more then normal or out of position. Certainly not to the point where I would even entertain a changing of the guard. Now a sit down evaluation around why this happened and how do you make sure it doesn’t again certainly is in the cards. Frankly something is in the water for Detroit because the Lions have had the same story the last 2 years. -

For 3 years and basically in title only as he is president of baseball operations here and not GM. Giants had the same structure and Frahan Zaidi from what I read made the final and tough decisions. Only was asst GM or GM for around 4 years before being president here. Also only 35ish when he became in charge and younger than a lot of players. Yes I would say to relationship building and leadership of a baseball Organization he would be consider “Green” and that Illitch was banking on long term growth and learning when hiring him. -

Hinch is a well respected manager and like all managers he has strengths and faults. Is he the best at his job, probably not but is he the worst? I think the answer to that is definitely no and the players seems to want to play for him which I think in professional sports is the most underrated part of a manager. As far as Harris I personally like him a lot as he directs the organization more towards what I would do. Draft well and develop and then build from there. I do not believe this would be his route if he felt like he had a short lease or a direction from management to win right now. With that said he needs to show improvement in free agency decisions and trades. I do think that is something he can and will develop but he was so new and green coming up that relationships with agents take time to build. -

Don’t worry it’s still short on production and talent… -

I can’t blame the front office or on field staff for the injuries this year and frankly that is why they are under performing. Injuries are part of the game and you either have good or bad luck in that department. Didn’t love every signing absolutely not. I hated the Anderson signing and wish that money would have been put toward true bullpen help. Now I do think they need to look at their training staff and offseason programs and try to figure out if changes need to be made to them to give the team the best chance at having luck go their way with injuries. -

I am still not 100% that he is ok yet. -
I’m thinking they are going to have a hard time staying under. Thank you for these numbers.

I think we have some financial constraints that are going to keep us from being buyers so we don’t lose out on draft picks. Getting Verlander, which hopefully can be a starter moves Flaherty or Monterro to the pen and that’ll help. Also Melton and Jobe being able to help out of the pen or as starters late this year will help with quality arms. With that said we are a couple arm injuries that will inevitably happen from disaster right now on the pitching side. -

Shooting fireworks off here and I can confirm it’s wet. -
Like the position don't love the player at 17 as I would've taken Freeling for the althetic upside. With that said the experience of Miller is probably the safer pick.

Have hurt ourselves twice on the basepaths both on our only decent chances to score. -
Their new OC is a heavy lean on the usage and production. Laporta health could be a bigger deal to the organization the they are letting on and the may not want to commit to a second contract. Keep the TE position on rookie contract to help afford other contract extensions.
-
It’s funny you mention TE as that’s one position along with LB if they fell in love with a player I could justify taking in the 1st or second. Do I want that, no as I would like to see them go OT and then DE in rounds 1 and 2. However I only want that if an elite talent on their board doesn’t fall to them otherwise take the talent as long as you can justify it as a fit on the team. QB, RB and WR are the only ones I would be upset about no matter the player in the first couple rounds.

Yeah I’ve had all sorts of problems with it for last few days. -
As much as it is a bad look I don’t see an issue with clawing that money back. In the corporate world if you sign on with a company with a signing bonus many times it would be owed back if you don’t fulfill the contract. Now could exceptions be made sure but where and how do you draw that line.

It might be an early season thing that they don't trust their eyes yet but I would rather them be wrong on something close then let the challenges go unused all game. -

Did Hinch threaten our players if they use a challenge incorrectly they're benched? -

I'd rather he didn't even though he could. Save all the early season innings we can when there a decent lead. Plus get more people into some action on the season -

Gets him as many bats as possible against a RHP before they start throwing lefties at him. Atleast that’s the only thing I can think of for the reason. -
I got sent an email about it about being an early sign up offer and there would be communication about that to follow. I have not see the second email yet and didn’t expect it until at least the payment processed.
-
You could argue that and I wouldn’t do disagree. However I think an average pass rusher who goes after QBs in obvious pass situations is more effective than the pass rusher only who has to play the run and pass at the same time. It’s why 3rd down pash rushing roles exist in the NFL, if they were so effective why wouldn’t they play every down?
-
There’s lots of ways for an offense to neutralize a pass rush. Even the best DEs only get home 10-15 times a season with double or triple that in additional pressures. It’s always much easier to schematically prepare for the pass when teams are in 2nd and 3rd and long then short yardage to go. Teams are going to pass no matter what let’s atleast force them to not be able to consistently use play action and need longer developing routes.
-
The Lions have made it a priority to stop the run and make teams more one dimensional against us. They have stated that this is their preferred defensive philosophy multiple times. Would they like both yes that’s why they have Hutchinson but if having to choose one or the other for the same cost they wilL take the run stopper every time. Not that it matters what I think but I agree with them. A run stopper is going to have more consistent impact than someone who only is good at getting to the QB.
