A lot of talk, understandably, about sourcing player upgrades through trades and free agency. I’m also interested, though, in what Harris is going to implement to improve player development in both the minors and big league level. When you think of guys like Santana, Pacheco, Keith, Campos, Meadows, etc., can we see some of them take big strides and unlock some of their potential? Will he be making outside hires to address this?

This is where we should take on a bad contract to get a better player and/or have to give up less in a deal.

I'm encouraged to hear Harris say he's open to trading prospects--this is what a team in our situation should be looking at to accelerate our road to respectability. The period where we were dealing veterans went poorly--while that could be blamed on Avila, I think the rule that the team who gets the best player almost always wins the trade is valid. Given the fragility of young pitchers, I'd rather we look to move guys like Madden and Flores to try and get some lineup mainstays (i.e, the aforementioned Danny Jansen). Heck, even Jobe in the right deal. Instead of receiving Daz Cameron's and Isaac Paredes', let's move our equivalents to get players with a track record.

hate to see Daz go, but it was the right call. guy needs a fresh start. I suppose more will go--we need to protect some guys, as well as save room for the Rule 5, free agent signings, etc...

what else is he going to say? I think secretly, the Tigers are hoping that Miggy spends a considerable amount of time on the DL/bench next season. The only thing he costs us right now is a 40-man spot, which sucks, but isn't worth alienating one of our best players ever. We need to move on from any Miggy consternation--it is what it is, and will be over this time next year.

as much as I'd like to see us move on from Baez at SS, it probably makes sense to keep him there for one more year. Next season will be about making incremental improvement, not competing for a playoff spot. Schoop is already signed and hopefully can have his bat bounce back closer to his career norms. He'll have zero trade value, nor part of our long-term plan, but it would be great if he can be a contributor to enjoyable baseball in 2023. I like the idea of picking up a LH 1B, who can also fill in at DH and serve as a backup plan if Tork needs more time at Toledo (which certainly appears to be the case right now). How about looking at Mitch Haniger for LF? (assumes Greene in CF and Meadows in RF). Bats RH and the Mariners didn't offer him a QO, so he's a free agent with no strings. Could be a bounce-back candidate after an injury-riddled season. Has upside if he can stay healthy.

couple of infielders in the system who bat left: Keith, Jung and Seretti. A couple of years away, but might factor into how they solve getting a LH bat for the infield over the next season or two.

agree that is typical, but since Turnbull wasn't rushed back, similar to JV, will that help expedite his return to form? Spencer basically sat out a full year and a half, so hopefully his offseason program will help.
