I wouldn’t be shocked to see Jobe up, if necessary. He’s the best we have in the minors (and most of the big squad).

Technically, Jung is not a middle infielder, but point is well taken. Those three make me wonder if we need to move Skubal for other infield prospects.

Mize, Manning and Olson out. Brieske ineffective lately. No one pitching effectively at Toledo. Looks like Maeda back in the rotation and would make it more difficult to trade both Flaherty and Skubal without getting a ready rotation piece in return. Time to see what Bonderman, Porcello and Fister are up to.

Maybe for that one team, but in general, fans would likely tune in more if you thought your team could trade or acquire more picks. For example, if your team drafts 5th, and make their selection, you can basically tune out until the next round. If teams can trade their picks, it’s possible they could acquire another 1st rounder. Works well in the NFL and NBA.

I’m starting to flip flop on my stance on Skubal. While it’s exciting (love the trade deadline) to speculate on potential suitors and offers, as well as have the national media comment on it, I’m not sure it’s ultimately best for us, if you think we could be a playoff contender as soon as next season. A ’25 rotation of Skubal, Olson, Jobe and Mize could be very good. Finding an ace is virtually impossible (we haven’t had anyone close to his performance since Verlander). If Jobe performs to his potential, the two of them would be a force. When I think of who we could get in return from Baltimore, Boston, LA, etc…, would we really be getting back better prospects than what we currently have? You could say that about Holliday, but anyone we get in return has to be markedly better than: 1B: Josue Briceno 2B: Colt Keith, Hao-Yu Lee SS: Kevin McGonigle, Bryce Rainer 3B: Jace Jung OF: Parker Meadows, Kerry Carpenter, Max Clark, Justyn-Henry Malloy C : Dillon Dingler While many of the prospects being discussed might be better than our younger players listed above, they are still prospects (see Torkelson, Spencer) and not sure things. Upgrading at C and 1B, and maybe another OF, would benefit the organization, as we are not particularly deep/strong there. I’d rather focus on moving Flaherty (would be difficult to move both him and Skubal this season without getting MLB-ready pitching in return to cover their innings) and get as good a prospect for him. The inherent risk in a prospect is mitigated when moving an asset that is only signed for a season and not likely to be retained. I’m not sure the gamble is worth it with Skubal. The exception for me would be to get a haul, and use some combination of our current prospects to get a veteran like Bo Bichette and/or Vladdy, Jr.

Interesting to see McGonigle leapfrog Clark and end up so high on this list. And no Jung?

Sale’s salary was higher than Skubal’s, so that should be factored in.

I’m not sure using the Juan Soto trade to the Padres as a point of comparison. The Padres GM operates like he’s in a Fantasy Baseball league. The Yankees traded these players to get Soto and Trent Gresham:

Javy isn’t going anywhere. We’re stuck and are more likely to cut bait at some point, once we’ve identified an upgrade.

I don’t think so, either. They’ll just eat the last 3 years of his deal. Probably would have done similar with Cabrera, but he still had some marketing value and they didn’t want to ruin the relationship. I suspect none of that is a concern with Baez.
