Why does Tork back up to catch a bigger bounce from Verling instead of just leaning in and catching the short hop ? Is that a correct way to play that ? It seems it will take longer and puts Tork at risk moving into the baseline to catch the ball. That's like the third time he has done that. Did anyone see that ?

I read an article I think in the News where Santana manager was quoted as saying Santana's bad start was because he tried too hard to "control the strike zone" and forgot to swing the bat. This explains his always high OBP but really low batting average. I think the difference was like 220 points !

I'm not so sure. Parades stats this year are better than Meadows was tracking when we got him, the cost is 8 million over two years versus maybe 2 and the rays have 6 years of control versus 3.

Yes and it’s the difference between old school and new analytic POBO’s or Al v Harris. Mike I was too slow too see this and make the switch. Peter Angolos or his son in Baltimore did and switched GM sooner which is why the Orioles , who used to suck like us , have flown past us. Harris can do the same but not trading Erod does slow things a bit. But I do think Mike Elias is the best in the game.
