I think, IMO , we have a super solid POP in Scot Harris this situation not withstanding but he is looking farther out than we probably like as in 2026 or later. Drafting high school kids and swapping out 28 year old catchers for 22 year olds assuming Rogers for Dalton Rushing tends to indicate as much.

Obviously Harris and Detroit want him gone because 20 million added to his contract is still very reasonable but that was not offered and even the Dodgers with more cash than any team and desperate for a starter didn't offer that because they also were hoping for the opt out if they made the deal. Erod and his sleazy agent have made a mess of his future options. Either stay in Detroit for under market money (which should be ok to his family since they are happy in Detroit ) or enter the market with many other choices and none of them with the baggage. I'm ok with Harris on this but if he gives him more money then he's a fool unless in return the no trade list option and opt out is taken away.

In summary I do not blame Harris for what happened. It’s on Erod and his agent for me. But it’s still a disappointment and missed opportunity and Harris isn’t blameless either. And I agree with those who call for a GM hire so back channels and secondary options get more attention. I hope he doesn’t get hurt and opts out. Too much drama and I bet many teams told Harris just that these past few days.

This. LAX is third world nightmare. It takes up to 30 minutes after getting there to crawl through traffic to your terminal. That’s after the nightmare of the 405. Then the TSA line ? Forget it !!

Scot Harris and Andrew Friedman got sand bagged. Simple as that. As such Harris will wait to see if Erod opts in or opts out. There will be no extra $$ offered by Detroit. If Erod surprises by opting in my bet he will be traded soon thereafter. Two years in a row Erod’s best curve was off field.

We don’t know what happened but it seems he was focusing on Baltimore and their GM was not budging so left with little options he gambled Erod would waive the no trade. It’s also possible the industry is wary of Erod after last season and his commitment level. Yes the 3 years is low but still too high if the player has questionable tendencies.

I don’t think we will get a high value minor leaguer without sending back controllable assets. So a player on the verge or blocked like Verling is what I’m thinking. A lefty hitting catcher or a near ready third baseman young with multiple years of control. Like Paredas was when we traded him. Sure if we can get a 55 rated prospect that’s great but I don’t see it for Lorenzen and even Erod.

I hoping for major league players in return. Or very close.

Baltimore has about 12 grade 50 or better prospects and need a starter and reliever so hopefully we can match up with them but their GM might be the best in the game so careful Scottie.

Yes he is. I think the reliever is also but not sure. The Angels minor leagues are not good so their second and third rated prospects might not be as good as it sounds but it can’t hurt our return for Erod and Lorenzen.
