I actually thought we might sign Benintendi even though he bats lefty. High walks and low strikeouts plus solid defender and only 28 and "affordable". I thought that was the "blueprint". So looks like I am wrong about us adding one "foundation" player this off season. Most everyone on the board was correct that this will be a year of evaluation. I guess thats prudent but we only have one real two way outfielder in Greene and Benintendi could handle our large left field really well and hit one or two in the lineup. Maybe I over valued him.

Home runs ? We got that covered with Tork..well maybe..wait..Meadows..thats right Meadows..what ?? he ..what ?? didn't hit any last year ? Get out ! Well somebody will..oh bloody heck I forgot about the BIG man.....

good signing. He pitched pretty well and had couple bad starts right before we went on the disabled list that blew up his numbers pretty bad. Slot him in aa 5th starter and he will be as good as most staffs fifth guy.

The free agent market next year stinks apart from Ohtani who will be a Met for 500 million over 12 years. . He will speed past 400.
-
I agree with this. Hopefully Harris is targeting this right now. Our shelves internally are empty apart from Kriedler who can field but unknown if he can hit.

Keep Baez and wait for the turnaround that is coming in 2023. After which he will opt out and if he doesn't the 4/93 remaining will be reasonable. Careful what you wish for. If one War equals 8 million then he only needs to add one war of production to last years numbers to meet his salary.Seems likely to me and he is an exciting player. I'm looking forward to watching him play in 2023 warts and all

I think all these big contracts given out to shortstops Turner and Bogarts with Correa and Swanson to follow combined with the poor free agent class next off season assured Baez will opt out if he has even just a decent season.

Very good day for Scott Harris and the Detroit Tigers. Getting a top ten prospect for one year of Jimenez ( a year we will not be contending) plus a potential starter in the rule 5 and a depth Lefty is solid.

I will guess Jayden Murray because..why not ?

Heyman works for the agents.

ya I read it's the wife's family and his desire to play with his buddy Harper. To each his own but wow very few would have made that choice.
-
I fear you are correct. I still think we will add one foundation piece but after reading what Harris said yesterday it might indeed be a slower climb.

It seems in line with what you and others have been saying. I am curious how it plays out but I hope they make quicker evaluations on player's than the last management team did. We can't afford to waste so much time on players like the Castros, Lugo's, Goodrums , Stewarts, etc snd let good young players like Parades etc get away. Try them when ready in a systematic planned way over a reasonable amount of time and then keep or move on. So guys like Clemens, Lipcous, Perez , Badoo, Rogers, Madris etc should be up next in the "hopper' and if they look and play bad then move on quickly.

Could be all of the above ? It seems part of the "plan" is to promote aggressively to the MLB level with the expectation that "development" will continue at that level and not stop at AAA. Sort of like a MLB/AAAA hybrid. I think that will be Scott Harris's main imprint. It seems you will get your wish to evaluate all the young players you have been touting sooner rather than later. Look at the Dodgers as the model or goal. They add stars but also commit to promoting their youth.

Reading between the lines yesterday from Harris's comments it seems he is making presentations to free agents but they just aren't biting as of yet. It also seems that he wants to reserve at bats for young players at the MLB level which also may have influenced his decision to DFA Candy since it does not make sense to pay the 7 mil for part time player especially knowing Candy wants to play full time to rebuild his platform for free agency after 2023.

What's the third pick from ? Losers's charity for 2022 performance ?

Any Tiger rumors coming out of San Diego? Aren’t our illustrious beat writers digging up the news ? Crickets 🦗.

Sounds cheap doesn't it.

Does ERod have any no trade protection ?

Was he better than Sweet Lou ?

I have no idea what Harris will do which is a very stark contrast to Al Avila who was very predictable and would probably be done by now. I don't think he will trade Riley Greene but everybody else is possible. Problem is, as stated on this board, we have few trade assets. Soto was and All Star but I think he is closer to being a future DFA candidate than to bringing back a major piece in trade. Jimenez has only one year of control but really good numbers in 2022. Lange is probably our highest bullpen asset. Tork is selling low. Skuball and Mize are hurt. Manning had arm/health issues in 2022. Can we trade ERod or does he have a no trade ? Also his "event" last year probably hinders his trade value but his price tag of 15 mil ish isn't too bad. Turnbull ? Meadows has all kinds of issues depressing his value. Despite Henning's latest glowing article about our minor league infielders and McCoskey's article about us being "well armed to trade" we have very little to offer. Maybe Jackson Jobe ? So I agree Harris's honeymoon is over but he will need way more time than one winter meetings to make an impact. Hope he can find a way to add at least one foundation piece this off season plus some fillers to make 2023 fun.

Let's play "what if". Say Candelerio returns to 2021 level of production next year in Washington motivated by his walk season. Would anybody here offer him the 4 yr/50 million, or thereabouts, in free agency he would command and risk him turning into a pumpkin again?
-
Or maybe because he got cut its the wake up call that motivates him to straighten up ? Perhaps there is a bit of this in all "change of scenery " situations ?

I am reading comments on Cody S’s Athletic article that signing Boyd is an Al Avila move. How can signing someone Al gave up on be an Al Avila move ? Isn’t it just the opposite? And 10 mil for a decent MLB starter in 2023 seems reasonable.

Hope Skubal can return by mid year and Mize probably 2024 or can he pitch next year sometime?
