  1. do you think the rich donors of other universities got that way by "spending money on things like college football salaries"?
  2. there is no reason michigan could not compete with the osu and nd's of the world. michigan has one of the richest alumni in the world.
  3. usc is the prize. they dont come without ucla.
  4. how weaver still has a job is beyond me. "yeah, i waste assets like crazy but hey look cade and ivey are playing well so i'm a genius."
  5. wow. if michigan beats ohio state four years in a row will they go out and hire bill belichick? spend $20 million on players? both? jim harbaugh broke ohio state's budget.
  6. i think it might be the other way around with tellum/weaver. weaver has misused assets since he got here. he's also had a fetish for big men. to suddenly aquire picks and trade AWAY big men is a complete 180 from the last four years.
  7. for all the justified weaver bashing, these types of trades are what they should have been doing last year instead of bringing in the likes of bagley, wiseman, and harris. getting rid of ancient vets with limited use and instead getting younger (except for fontecchio) shooters to surround your young core. spread the floor. everything we all asked them to do. the bagley/gallinari trade where you had to include two seconds to get off the bagley contract was another waste of resources. waiting too long to trade bogey and burks so you dont get at least a first round pick was another waste of resources. but finally getting shooting means....something? right? waiving killian so monty cant bench ivey or sasser is.....something? baby steps to proper roster management? maybe weaver has been kneecapped and tellum is making decisions now? maybe its someone else? cause these trade deadline day moves are almost the exact opposite of everything weaver has done to this point.
  8. i've read mgoblog since the blogspot days and the episode following the natty was a good listen for all of us old timers. that said, i get a little tired of the homerism from seth and craig, and the cynicism from brian. i'd rather just listen to sam. i swear to god, seth thinks michigan's players and coaches are all geniuses and every other team is just so poorly coached and cheats. its annoying. but i still listen and read because its the most in depth sports blog out there. has been forever. alex drain is really good, so is his substack.
  9. i dont know, but that's where it is going. that's where it HAS to go. there will have to be contracts that provide teams with stability re: rosters and players re: money. then the ncaa's job becomes enforcing the cap when ohio state cheats and pays everyone extra under the table. oh, and cheeseburgers.
  10. another guy jeiii was gushing about at the time, which means weaver was high on him.
  11. if he left weaver in place and told him to change the team or else, you would imagine some short term deal for a big money guy (or a forst round pick) would result. instead you had more movement on the edges. i dont think this is any indication that weaver is going anywhere. but i dont know. im just speculating.
  12. other teams also double team cade whenever he has the ball, ivey not so much. yet.
  13. collective bargaining and a salary cap.
  14. his company produced the plans for the proposed new white sox stadium. there was speculation this morning that maybe he might buy the team when reinsdorf sells/dies.
  15. letting him make all these trades tells me weaver is going nowhere.
  16. they gave up bogey AND burks to the knicks for grimes, garbage, and two second rounders? you turned down first rounders for bogey last year and then PACKAGED him for two SECOND rounders? what a garbage gm. grimes is fine. the italian dude is fine. waiving killian is fine, i guess, but wiseman is still on this team for some unknown reason.
  17. ivey doesnt pass as well as cade. ivey also gets out of control sometimes. i dont think ivey is a primary ball handler type. cade is a much better passer.
  18. phil knight will die at some point and oregon likely dies with him.
  19. i agree with you.
  20. it's only a "problem" if michigan wants to compete for national championships. they were a solid football team under harbaugh before the last three years, they just couldnt beat ohio state. and i think beating osu had more to do with ditching don brown, harbaugh going back to his roots, and osu having to get rid of scumbag urban meyer than anything else. but michigan doesnt beat osu without 5 star will johnson, 5 star jj mccarthy (who wanted to go to osu and notre dame but they turned him down) and 5 star donovan edwards. 5*s matter at some positions more than others (cornerback and quarterback). again, michigan has done a great job of unearthing talent and developing it. but to continue to be at the top of a now uber competitive big ten (remember, michigan only had two tough games last year, next year they have 5), they will need to do a better job of getting (and paying) top tier talent.
  21. are you just ignoring all i'm saying about development? i've said over and over that michigan's "secret sauce" has been their ability to develop players. and you're ignoring the portal too. osu has made it rain in the portal and pulled in a number of other great players. michigan recruits at a high level. but not the highest level. that was not a problem for the last three years versus osu and last year versus alabama. it was a problem for the previous 20 years.
  22. michigan has had one top 10 recruiting class since 2020. ohio state has never had anything less than a top 5 class. michigan recruits like penn state and notre dame, not like ohio state, bama, georgia, lsu, and (lately) oregon. like i said, they make up for it with development and coaching. michigan's bball team has been destroyed by an inability to get substantial recruits in the portal and to keep their best players out of the portal. michigan couldnt (wouldnt?) outbid kansas for hunter dickinson. the halcyon days of michigan not paying kids (over the table) to be athletes is over. they need to get with the modern times. if the football team starts to fail, they will. once they wise up and get rid of warde manuel they will. but it will take some time and letting the younger generation of michigan regents/leaders to take over from all the stuffy fuddy duddies like g2. 🙂
