yeah, i got really sick of hearing every bear and bear fan talking about how they can be just like the lions from last year. ummm....no. the lions last year were in close games against good teams and losing at the last second after winning most of the game (for the most part...until new england). the bears were losing to bad teams like green bay, minnesota without JJ and the team with the worst defense in the league. denver and chicago are bad. the lions last year were slowly becoming good. however, it is nice to see the lions mentioned as the benchmark for success now instead of being the butt of everyone's jokes. all it took was an actual owner. -

i'm as critical of cade as the next guy - probably moreso- but if he was healthy and was playing with lauri markkanen, caris levert, jarrett allen, darius garland and then donovan mitchell, cade would have a lot more win shares too. acquiring levert, markkanen and then mitchell along with garland's development was a big reason they won. mobley was too but he has a surrounding cast that makes sense, unlike detroit. moreover, mobley needs someone to get him the ball. if the pistons draft mobley over cade, who gets mobley the ball? killian hayes and corey joseph? that alone would decrease any "win share" mobley would have. my two worries with cade are health and his 3 point shot. other than that he is coming along nicely. but shooting 27% from 3 is not going to cut it.

karlsson played almost 30 minutes. he'll never keep that up. pittsburgh is going to be gassed by the end of the season. in other concerning news, walman and seider got worked. that could be because - as g2 said - the wings seemed to go into prevent mode in the 3rd and baaically let the pens bring the puck into the zone. the forwards stopped pressuring them in their own zone. trying to prevent 2 on 1's or getting caught on a break is admirable, but at the expense of letting crosby and malkin gain the zone that easily? it almost cost them the game.

big early season game on saturday to see where they are.
-
they really cant hang with the cindy/malkin/karlsson group. they were double shifting and dominating detroit. you can see detroit's depth in this game, but when pittsburgh's top stars were out there really trying, the wings couldnt match them.

can we just take the 2 minute power play and not have copp try a penalty shot?
-
is the shl a lower league in russia?
-
i'd still take cade. edit: win shares is a flawed stat. put mobley on the pistons and his win shares would be considerably lower greene is a head case. pass.

after the nd game there have been some questions about williams. drake maye is nipping at his heels.

laporta drops two passes and you'll be calling him a bust in the gane thread. or you'll just blame ben johnson for not telling him to catch it. -
yes but porter cant play center so why would we want him?
-
it doesnt really matter, with michigan's schedule they'll need to beat both. if you want tk be REALLY strategic, root for osu because michigan has them at home and it is more likely that if michigan were to lose a game it will come on the road against penn state.
-
hope porter saved his money. he can go play in spain.

goff was terrible for the rams and i say its pretty unlikely they win the super bowl with him that year. both teams are "winners" in that trade. lions kicked off a rebuild and the rams won a super bowl. goff has been great but the jury is still out on jamo and gibbs/laporta picks they got from the rams. -
"ghost" and holl have not sucked so far. i dont know if i'd call maata pretty good, but he's been serviceable.

that was the red wings' most complete victory in a while. as noted, if theyre going to win it will be with depth and that's how theyre winning. strong forward play defensively and collective offense. theyre turning teams over on the forecheck and getting the puck back. they can get the puck out of their own zone much better than in previous years. pittsburgh and ottawa coming up will be good measuring sticks. different teams than new jersey for sure. the other promising sign is the top line. larkin-debrincat-raymond has been a solid first line with debrincat playing really well. how a line with debrincat and raymond holds up against a bigger forechecking team on the road remains to be seen. they might need to break that up with a bigger forward at times. the defense is still a work in progress but gothisbere and holl have been decent so far. mistakes have been from maata, seider, and (of course) chairot. given their age, i expect some injuries and to see lots of edvinsson at some point this year. or to see him traded for a star...

up 4-0. i'll be waiting to see what g2 complains about tonight. lol. jk.

the detroit diaspora is real. a lot of wings games are still like that, especially in warm weather spots where all the factories moved. 😞 -
ive also seen seider get beat a couple times already. imo seider is off to another slow start but doesnt have chairot to blame it on this time. husso has been "fine." not great, not terrible. "fine."
