  1. another thing to think about, ben johnson is likely gone next year if the lions are good this season. aaron glenn too. does that affect how they think about goff or what kind of players they draft on defense this year?
  2. no one is going to pay okudah that kind of money unless he tears it up this year. the lions have effectively replaced him already. they benched him last year. he isnt good. if he suddenly becomes good, they can try to sign him, but im not going to pay him that kind of money just because he was drafted high. and neither will anyone else. i dont see any way they pick up that option. spend the money on getting another good player, not on a hope that okudah can suddenly figure it out in year 5.
  3. if carter is there at 6 and the lions pass on him, you have to think there are some things in his character that bother them. and then the eagles will take him at 10 if he makes it past the bears at 9.
  4. all solid points, but i take issue with the "4th or 5th best qb in the draft." if they think any of richardson/young/stroud have great ability and theyre there at 6, then they have to consider taking them. qb 1, 2, or 3 on the lions board could be different than on others board. if youre talking qb 5 (somebody like tanner mckee in round 3), that's probably not a pick i would make.
  5. $11.5 million for okudah is NOT worth it. do not pick up that option. let him earn that extension.
  6. and it only gets worse...
  7. of course that's what most of us are saying. most of us are being quite reasonable about this. some think they might draft a qb, some dont want us to. in fact, i dont think anyone is advocating for it. all im saying is that there are reasons to do it, even if i dont think they will and that its more likely that they wont.
  8. no, you cant draft a qb because holmes was on the rams when they traded for goff. should we keep going with this obnoxiousness?
  9. No, we can never draft a qb because jared goff was a #1 pick once.
  10. we can never draft a qb again because we didnt draft justin fields.
  11. your qb is always more talented than the college prospect because he's on your team. if your team drafts the college qb, he will instantly become more talented because now he is on your team.
  12. as has been said many times, we all trust holmes to make the right decision. if he thinks one of the qbs will help them in a couple years, then he'll take one. if not, he wont. im fine with either decision.
  13. they didnt take fields then because they wanted to put a better team together before they drafted a qb. no need to take fields and put him behind the 8 ball so early. its also possible they thought fields had trouble processing and didnt want to take the risk. those are two theories ive heard. and just because they passed on fields two years ago does not mean they wont take another qb now. its a different situation now.
  14. also, stafford is more talented than goff, imo.
  15. if you can get better production for less money (MUCH less money), you should do it. again, im not saying they should, but im sure theyre thinking about it.
  16. i think he was really good against washington and seattle in the first half and bad against dallas, new england, and not that good against green bay and minnesota. he played really well in the second half against everyone but the jets, but they have a great defense. lots of qbs didnt play well against the jets. i just dont think jared goff is the kind of guy who is going to single handedly win you a game. he was a solid qb last year, especially against weak defenses. that's not damning with faint praise, its good to have a decent qb who can run your offense and make the right decisions. but i dont see goff as an elite qb. he's kirk cousins. he's solid. the question is whether you want that much of your cap tied up in him?
  17. its like the argument that jared goff was good for the easy 1/2 of the season last year so the lions shouldnt think about upgrading the qb position for the next decade. i actually like jared goff, but if you think richardson is going to be a really good qb and be better than goff, then you have to consider drafting him. i still believe the plan all along was to draft a qb this year or last year and let him sit behind goff for a year or two to develop. last year there was no one worth investing in, this year there might be. goff's contract is up after next year, so it would be an ideal time to have a younger, cheaper qb take over. otoh, goff played well enough down the stretch to perhaps indicate he would be worth a "kirk cousins" type $50 million a year deal. i can see both arguments. they saw florida play a bunch of times. they interviewed richardson at the combine. they brought in hendon hooker for an interview, theyre obviously thinking about potentially taking a qb.
  18. because richardson is the best athlete (athletic score wise) at qb in the history of the nfl. his ceiling is 2019 lamar jackson in a league that is turning more to running qbs, and a team that is built on running the ball. the lions likely wont be picking this high (or have the chance to trade up as cheaply) as this year, and if you are going to draft this high you need to swing for the fences on a player with the highest upside, and that player is anthony richardson because of his athletic ability and his position. there are plenty of downsides too, but that's the argument for making the pick.
  19. youre going to be so excited when the lions trade up to 3 and so upset when they take anthony richardson.
  20. betrayer must be so happy. if there was a time to make a move, it was now. kenny atkinson would be at the top of any list. i know belien bombed out in cleveland because the players sabotaged him, but the dude can coach. an overlooked assistant might be a good choice. udoka would have to be at the top of any list too.
  21. faedo isnt any good. he's a aaaa pitcher at best. maybe gets a middle relief run and does ok. he's not a major league pitcher. meadows, otoh might be something.
