agreed. "mental health" and "therapy" are the new penance. Make a public mistake that causes you to lose reputation? go to "therapy". you dont have to say 10 hail mary's and wear a hairshirt anymore, now you need to go tell a "mental health professional" all your secrets. just as a side note, i think a lot of legislation gets passed but we never hear about most of it. we hear about republicans obstructing democrats from passing larger legislation - which is true - but more actually gets done than we know about.

and let's remember that everyone and their brother was high on chychrun and holland traded out of that pick that became chychrun so he could take cholowski. now chychrun is a borderline all star and cholowski is almost out of the league in three years. ken holland ruined this franchise.

the inability for people on both sides of that issue to draw the line between "sex" and "gender" is very frustrating. that said, we have drawn so many legal and social lines along gender (who gets protected by what rules, who can use this facility (bathrooms), who can compete against whom, who is being discriminated against, who can go where in society) it makes it an almost impossible problem to "solve" and an impossible question to answer, especially in a legal sense where so many questions are supposed to have black letter law answers. how do you legislate who can use what bathroom? or who can compete against whom in sports when the variables change so much? i doubt most people care - or would notice - if some transwoman walked into a woman's bathroom. but how do you write that into law and prevent dudes from abusing it? its easy fodder for scaremongering republicans to present a worst case scenario (which does happen but very rarely) and make democrats look bad for defending it.

that's just politics. crt, crime, and transpeople. a trifecta of issues that play well for republicans. it had nothing to do with her. if the republicans could have resurrected someone from 30 years ago to say she did something wrong in high school, believe me they would have!

all that unnecessary handwringing about her getting confirmed. she was always going to get confirmed unless she said something crazy, which she didnt. i hope corey booker cries fake tears of joy over it. you can always count on corey to be overemotional and ridiculous for the cameras.

remember, this is the same guy who said bertuzzi ok'd a trade. so be wary...

that's why i'm wary of counting on berggren or mcissac to be anything special. any player drafted by the previous regime is suspect to me. they missed on almost every single pick from 2015 to 2018. the players they picked high who are in the nhl (zadina, ras, veleno, lindstrom, smith, hronek) are all either bad or below average players. none have developed into difference makers in the nhl. i dont trust anything that ken holland touched on this team. nothing. in fairness, many of them are still young and still have time to develop, but its not looking good for any of them right now to be anything more than role players at best, which is the kiss of death for a team like detroit. yzerman inherited a glorified expansion team when he got here.

o/u for the lions this year via draft kings: 6 bears 7 vikings 9 pack 11 only the jets, falcons, and texans are lower. carolina is also at 6.

the allure of watching one of the worst teams in the league from the worst franchise in league history isnt enough to get you interested? well, people like to watch car crashes so maybe they'll like this?

they have more talent now than they did two years ago (in every area but goal, apparently) and the results are getting worse. 10 to toronto. 9 to arizona. 11 to pittsburgh. whatever blashill is selling isnt being bought. the only way i can see him staying if is yzerman has told blashill that he wants the wings to play a more open style of play, results be damned. if that's the case, then maybe he stays? seider and raymond have gotten better under blashill, larkin is having his best season. bert has played well. and perhaps yzerman thinks the talent on the team is so bad that it doesnt matter who the coach is? that said, i dont know how he survives this season end. they've been 100% embarassed routinely in the last month. not just beaten, but embarrassed.

again, that's just one way to measure position value and draft position in the nfl. its not gospel. but one thing it does show is that drafting later round qbs is usually useless.

if you're looking at the surplus value of each position drafted in respect to their contract value, safety is middle of the pack. btw, the lowest returns are running back, center, linebacker, corner, and tight end. remind me again who bob quinn drafted early for the lions? i'm not opposed to drafting hamilton because i'm not a scout, maybe he is really special? a lot of on line scout types seem to think so. and the nfl is changing (but will change again as offenses and defenses continue to adjust) and safeties are becoming more important in pass defense. that said, what is constant is the need for a qb, a guy who can protect that qb, a guy who can get open and catch what the qb throws, and on defense a guy who can put that qb on the ground. those are the guys that go #2 in the draft usually.
