  1. looking at what the caps did this offseason as far as free agents and seeing what the wings did leaves a lot to be desired.
  2. he might be one of the best athletes in the league. i remember watching him smother zack lavine early in his career. not many people can do that.
  3. elmer soderblum just reversed check someone and then got in a fight! that he proceeded to win ny pummeling the guy in 3 punches. THAT is how you get into the league mr. 6'8. be a physical monster.
  4. the kings have hired doug christie, the most pussy whipped man on the planet, as their new head coach.
  5. i can see how it would look like that if youre not seeing it every day. but its short term thinking instead of long term planning. almost every nfl team "plays hard down the stretch" regardless of their record. most nfl games are decided by one or two scores. good teams win those games. the real question is what do you want your franchise to be? what's your identity as a team? you have the #1 pick. you have a chance to get it right with a team centered around caleb williams and instead you keep your defensive head coach and let him hire another offensive coordinator, after he had to fire his first OC because he was so bad. why did you think this time would be different? because youre a bad organization who doesnt know what its doing. guess what? it wasnt different. the same coach that messed up the first hiring (the original oc was luke getsy who was subsequently hired by the raiders - another **** organization - and then fired midseason) messed up the second hire. speaking of the raiders, they hired antonio pierce after they "played hard down the stretch last year and won some games." this year he's 4-11.
  6. toronto has how many players who are much better than any player on detroit? marner, nylander, matthews....tavares? the only player the wings have who can make the plays marner and nylander have been making is kane. and he cant do it anymore. the wings had lots of chances, they just miss. or the puck bounces over their stick. or they cant handle the pass. or they shoot it right at the goalie. theyre just not good enough to compete with a team like toronto when toronto is on their game. youve got to beat the crap out of toronto. get them off their game. detroit hasnt done any of that.
  7. chairot turns the puck over on the forecheck and the leafs lead 1-0. you got your work cut out for you mr. mcclelland.
  8. cade is finally turning into luka-light. which is what we hoped he would be coming out of college.
  9. everyone on god's green earth knew eberflus should have been fired LAST YEAR except the bears. they had a chance to get right with coach and qb in year one (which they failed to do with trubisky and fields) and they blew it. again. because they are incompetent. however, flus had to be fired after turkey day. there was an open mutiny in the lockerroom. they had no choice. even the BEARS, who have never fired a coach mid-season in their history had to let him go. but because they are the bears, they made the next stupid decision and made thomas brown (who started the season as passing coordinator and who had only been named offensive coordinator two weeks before after they fired their OC) the head coach! for two weeks he had been calling plays and the bears offense looked semi-competent, and then they ruined any relationship he may have been building with caleb and made him in charge of the whole team. he was two weeks removed from never having been in charge of ANYTHING, to being in charge of EVERYTHING! he was set up to fail by ownership (and this includes kevin warren) who dont know what theyre doing.
  10. good points. i'm pretty sure this is in line with the team's thinking and in one of prashanth's recent posts. and he's not been a fan of yzerman's free agent moves, but he wrote that the timeline is now seider and raymond's primes. that starts - theoretically - in a year or two. exactly when these contracts begin to expire. to give yzerman the benefit of the doubt, those deals were signed (and larkin extended rather than traded ) so that the next core - raymond, seider, edvinsson, etc - would have veterans in the lockeroom and on the ice. so they wouldnt get physically mauled like they were getting in 2019-2020. so they wouldnt be buffalo, winning the prospect rankings every year and finishing in last. i get as frustrated as anyone with the way this season has gone, but if you look at the BIG picture, its just another step to competing in two or three years. the counter being what stanley always brings up - quite rightly - that they dont have a "star" and prospects dont always turn out (see some previous red wings teams "prospect rankings"). but as we have said for a while, they're likely going tobhave to buy a "star." a couple may be available soon, or like you said, they may wait and hope a kirpizov shakes loose after next season. i wouldnt wait. i'd try like heck for heiskanen or ratanan this year. we shall see. yzerman is my childhood hero, so i'll always ultimately give him the benefit of the doubt, even while cursing this product on these boards....
  11. that's the first thing i thought of. lol. since the great "boyd for torres" debate, torres never developed into the star he was hyped to be, but he did out produce matt boyd.
  12. the bears were never going to do what it took to hire jim harbaugh. they would have had to fire the gm too - jim harbaugh is not working with ryan poles - and the mccaskeys would never have done that. also, harbaugh is a big personality and the bears 1) dont traditionally like that (mccaskey ownership had issues with ditka a lot and ditka was hired by halas, virginia prefers nice young men she can have over for dinner); and 2) they already have one massive ego in the room. there wasnt a lot of room for kevin warren and jim hatbaugh to exist. there are all sorts of rumors here about harbaugh. the media still talks about him every week as the one who got away. storylines of "he always wanted to coach here" to "kevin warren nixed any possible deal because he hates harbaugh" are floated around regularly. its been so fun to watch the chicago press go from "we have a real shot to win the division and get 11 wins because were the new lions" to "were doomed by our managements utter incompetence and we really are the old lions." the lions get talked about A TON in this town now. its fun.
  13. the bears were 4-2 and had just blown out jacksonville before the bye, albeit with the easiest schedule in the league. they were about to be 5-2 with games against arizona and then new england at home when the hail mary happened. that one play changed the entire trajectory of their season. following that game the whole narrative changed. i would argue that their schedule would have eventually caught up with them, but not in a way to see them as a 4 win team. theyre probably a 7 or 8 win team. but this really is one of the worst run organizations in the nfl; continually hiring overmatched GMs and head coaches. theyve been even worse after they fired eberfuls because the team just doesnt have a lot of talent, especially in the trenches. lets see what kevin warren will do. i think he's an empty suit. he's done nothing but talk loud since he got here. the stadium deal is no closer to being done and the team is a disaster. he should fire the gm and start over. we shall see if he does or if the mccaskeys still run the show.
  14. the theme of this season in chicago media post fail mary against washington is that the bears are the now the (old) lions.
  15. the bulls sat half their roster, still built a 20 point 4th quarter lead over hapless atlanta, and then proceeded to blow it and lose by almost 10. gave up 50 points in the 4th quarter. the east is god awful bad.
  16. how much do we need to pay for Fox?
  17. and the foul!
  18. erik karlsson, is that you?
  19. had to be done. they quit playing in their last couple games. lifeless.
  20. you're old.
  21. true. i dont know, he's been talked up very recently by some non-red wings as a great head coach prospect currently coaching in russia.
  22. we are where we are because of ken holland in 2015-2019 and the wings' pro scouting department in 2022-2024. a deadly combination. seems obvious that hiring the old red wings' boys club has not added much to the team. lidstrom, draper, cleary, fischer (especially draper since he's in charge of amateur scouting and they havent had a pick outside of round one hit in 5 years), all their pro scouts. i'm not sure how anyone in charge of signing tarasenko, gustafson, chairot, motte, etc still jave jobs. holl? rasmussen extension? i dont want to see them fire lalonde in season because the best thing for this team will be a total tank followed by a top 5-ish pick. but he's a dead man walking. no way he survives this season. bring on a top 5 pick and larianov as coach.
  23. 5th worst record in the league. good thing they didnt play wallinder tonight, you wouldnt want him to make a mistake that might cost them the game...
  24. booed off the ice. 4-0. horrible game.
