  1. in 1988 they had 11 draft picks and only 4th rounder sheldon kennedy made the nhl. and he was bad. but to his credit he was bad in detroit for 5 years. that's something. at least he got his pension.
  2. between 84 and 87 they had four top 11 picks. shawn burr, brent fedyk, joe murphy (at #1) and yves racine. that's a whole lotta "meh." and then they doubled down on it by dealing murphy, second round pick adam graves, and others for jimmy carson. that worked well....for adam graves.
  3. 1983. in addition to yzerman, they took klima and PROBERT, KOCUR, AND GRIMSON! its the toughest draft in wings history. oh, and steve yzerman.
  4. it didnt really stop until they discovered russians and swedes. remember trading adam oates for bernie federko and tony mckegnee? we had to get "tougher" so we might be able to take edmonton to 6 games instead of losing in our usual 5. or heck, trying to beat st louis, chicago, toronto or minnesota in round one...
  5. 7-3 definitely needed this game.
  6. tarasenko scored! tarasenko scored!
  7. that's a great first period. nice comeback after a bad goal. and then they do that and its 3-2.
  8. they deserve to lose for defacing the best uniforms in the league with those things.
  9. they might keep glasgow around because he can play center. manu is a project tackle but they could move him inside, i suppose. either way, i'm not too broken up about zeitler given his age.
  10. holmes doesnt like to box himself in for the draft. they might sign someone else at guard before the season starts. its also possible that they like some of the RFAs they had last year. Im surprised glasgow wasnt cut or renegitiated given how poor he was last season and hia age. they may feel zeitler is too old for that kind of money. too risky.
  11. the rest of the league must still be concerned about levi's extensive injury history. that's understandable with how little he's played. with that said, the market is throwing around crazy money for defensive linemen so its possible we are overrating levi a bit. and always remember that the amount put out by the agents for some of these deals is not the actual amount the player will earn.
  12. levi re-signing for 1 year at $5.5 million is a great deal for the lions.
  13. the league needs to find a way to make lakers-mavs happen. lakers-warriors is a total "root for death" series. hate both of them. bulls could beat the heat. the heat suck. pistons could beat the knicks. put stew on kat and watch him shrink like george constanza coming out of a pool. otoh, i dont know who guards brunson. ausar on bridges would be interesting.
  14. once the rest of the league discovered russia and sweden, kenny was toast. no more advantage over other gms.
  15. i would trade the one that nets you a better player /copout. if forced to choose i would trade augustine because he has a lower ceiling due to size.
  16. i would br open to trading one of them, depending of course on what you can get. if this trade deadline was any indication than all you could have gotten was a 30 year old rental. no thanks.
  17. so are we going to pay duren now?
  18. avila built the house he lived in. yzerman was handed the keys after kenny gutted the interior and stripped all the appliances.
  19. one of the worst things about this site is when you have a big long post prepared, go to another tab to look at some data, and then come back to that stupid ad pop up that wipes out your whole post. suffice to say, half this board was clamoring for johnny gaudreau two years ago. and stamkos/marssasseault/elias lindholm this last year. how'd that work out? did you want chris tanev for SIX YEARS? did you want him to trade first round picks for 33 year olds this year? come on. now, there's plenty of legit criticism, but remember the context. they had one of the worst teams in nhl history with the worst farm system in the league in 2019. it takes a long time to overcome that. the teams that have done it have had lottery luck. toronto was awful. they drafted nylander (8), matthews (1) and marner (4) back to back to back. who did we get when we were bad? rasmussen (9), zadina (6), and seider (6). see the difference? yeah, this summer was ****. he owns that. but every other move was at least explainable. asp is coming and might even be here this year. danielson gets here next year. cossa the year after that or next year. in two years that is the foundation of the team. then chairot, holl, petry, copp, tarasenko, gustafsson, et al are all off the books. judge then. if its still bad, then he deserves to be fired.
  20. then compare him to kenny holland, not al avila. plus there isnt much comparison to kenny either considering yzerman took over one of the worst teams in nhl history with one of the worst farm systems in the league. avila also took over one of the worst farm systems in thr league....that helped to create. sometimes you cant make an analogy work, its ok.
  21. steve yzerman directed tampa bay to the stanley cup finals and built the foundation of a team that won multiple cups. comparing him to al avila is stupid.
  22. 2015: evgeniy schvechnikov, no second round pick 2016: dennis cholowski, givani smith, filip hronek 2017: michael rasmussen, gustav lindstrom 2018: filip zadina, joe veleno, jonatan berggren, and jared mcisaac. those drafts should be the foundation of this team. and all you got out of it was hronek (who was dealt in a good trade), and a third and fourth line wingers. that's pathetic. i wouldnt trade raymond or seider for all of those guys.
  23. i cant wait for yzerman's #6 pick in the draft to ride the bench in the swiss league.
  24. the only time i've rooted for draymond greene is when he punched jordan poole in the face. cant stand jordan poole.
