  1. but if you get the qb wrong, you're usually stuck for the next four years (ask the bears). unless you get it SO wrong, you're picking #1 again next year and have the balls yo admit you screwed up the last pick -which usually requires the last regime being fired first (ask the cardinals). i dont want to take a qb just to take one when this team has so many needs and the draft has some really good prospects at those positions of need (linebacker, cornerback, defensive end). and what they need almost as much as a qb is a big time receiver. i'd rather get a olave or a dotsun with the rams pick than chase a qb who is falling.
  2. i'd be worried about thibodeaux staying healthy, but if he is, he is what the lions need: an athletic freak, quick twitch pass rusher. hutchinson seems like a guy who will be a really good player, but isnt that type of uber athlete the lions just dont have. more solid than spectacular.
  3. they already traded assets for benson and have benched him. why give up more assets for the lost cause of this season? no thanks.
  4. he'll be here next year. just like seider. one year in sweden and then come over. dekyser will be gone. leddy will be gone. staal will be gone. they'll need defensemen.
  5. the eagles have hurts plus three first round picks. the giants will have a couple too. dolphins. the lions have no way to absorb watson's cap hit plus they dont have any kind of team around him. i think the odds of the lions trading for him are infintessimally small.
  6. 99% incompetence.
  7. we'll see how the process plays out but right now none of the qb prospects seem to be that great or worthy of the #1 pick.
  8. do we wait for cj stroud?
  9. looks like cade may not play the season opener either. is this going to be a season long thing? how long does it take to heal a sprained ankle?
  10. stanley johnson waived by the bulls. one more time: fuck off stan van gundy.
  11. and holmes was on the staff that traded multiple picks for jared goff. more ominously, he was also on the staff that picked greg robinson #2. but no one knows what input he had there. other than sewell, the lions draft picks have looked pretty good so far to my untrained eye. and sewell has had him moments too. it hasnt all been bad. and - as campbell pointed out today - the oline isnt being helped by goff not getting the ball out and dropping too deep in the pocket. goff is playing scared and its killing them.
  12. lions open as 16 point underdogs in LA. i bet it gets up to 17.5.
  13. the picks were always going to be close to the bottom if round one. they're still pretty valuable. but to make the trade they had to take goff. look, the lions are tanking on purpose, goff is the PERFECT qb for that. this year and next.
  14. vikings just drove down the field against carolina in a tie game. carolina rushed 4 the entire time. didnt matter. then they missed a 47 yard field goal as time expired that would have won the game. poor lions. they just cant buy a break this year.
  15. i know bertuzzi comes with unnecessary distractions about vaccinations and his back issues, but i dont really want to trade him. he's really good. if they do trade him, they better get a haul.
  16. it will all be complete when we add shane wright next year.
  17. i dont think so. a lot of their assistants have. most famously a couple of guys names shula and belicheck.
  18. there is no question that the lions are the worst franchise in american sports history. they play in a league specifically designed to achieve parity and make it easy for bad teams to get better. in that time, they have won one playoff game. ONE! its amazing how terrible they are. no one else is close.
  19. i feel happy for matt stafford. finally got the fuck out of here and now getting his due as a top 10 nfl qb.
  20. here comes the comeback!
  21. can it get any worse? yes, yes it can.
  22. it wasnt a mistake. but whatever.
  23. no. to paraphrase tp, you probably should have drafted a qb. its stupid to spend money on a "quality" backup qb in the salary cap age. spend the money on better starters.
  24. that's my point. same point i've been making to you for a week.
  25. its not that the backup qb is the answer here, its that the starting qb is obviously NOT the answer.
