they sat down and brought in a defense designed to beat osu. the offense is a return to "pure harbaugh." power run game. theyre running some of the same stuff his brother is running for the ravens...only without lamar jackson at qb. in fairness, michigan's rbs might be better than the ravens rbs. i think osu's offense is the best offense in college football, by far. michigan didnt "shut them down," they got 500 yards on them. but they made them drive the field and take a lot of time off the clock and made them kick a couple field goals instead of getting tds. the josh ross stop on 3rd and 2 to start the 3rd quarter was the play of the game. osu only down 1 at that point. the real surprise to me was michigan's offense being unstoppable in the 2nd half. i did not see that coming.

almost all of osu's offensive line will be drafted. most of them fairly high. of course, hutchinson is a top 5 pick and ojabo is a top 15 pick.

iowa's offense has been terrible all year and ferentz is notoriously conservative and unimaginative. here i am talking myself into them being able to move the ball on michigan at will. this is what its like to be a michigan fan in 2021: perpetual dread and waiting for the other shoe to drop and us to lose some game we shouldnt.

i think they schemed to take away osu's run game and it worked. iowa has the best offensive lineman in the country on their team at center, but their tackles are bad. they may be able to run on michigan. and i was assume they could scheme a better gameplan than ohio state or penn state did to avoid michigan's rush. msu made um's defense look bad. iowa doesnt have kenneth walker, but they are a better coaching staff than ohio state and penn state and can presumably figure out how to get michigan's young linebackers in bad positions.

its not a lazy narrative, its the truth about iowa's offense not being very good. iowa's defense and special teams are good. and i think ive been pretty complimentary to iowa. i think they can beat michigan, for sure. iowa is always a well coached team. michigan has higher rated recruits, but michigan just showed last saturday that that doesnt always matter. iowa scares me to death.

iowa has been outgained by purdue, wisconsin, northwestern (!), minnesota, and illinois. they outgained penn state only because clifford got hurt. iowa's defense has been good, and their special teams has been very good (as usual). their offense has been awful. iowa's special teams are #2 in the country. #1? michigan. iowa wins if michigan turns the ball over and gives up some special teams big plays. iowa can usually bite a big team, they've done it to michigan before, they've done it to ohio state too. but when they do its usually at kinnick. the game - like all michigan games - scares me to death, and iowa is always sound and well coached and usually picks one game to go all out and break every tendency and throw caution to the wind. but on PAPER, michigan should win by 2 touchdowns. but as every michigan fan is well aware, games arent played on paper.

nobody has scored 30 on iowa this year or in 2019 (2020 doesnt count), but in 2018 you gave up more than 30 points three times.

i think the 2/3 game is in dallas, which would be an incentive to out ok state in the 3 spot.

i like the 2 year out because it gives him motivation to keep his numbers up for a larger payday too.

i think its a good deal for detroit. he's got an out after 2 years? so its really just a two year deal? good defense and power. but the .290 obp is not going to be pretty. since its not my money, i would rather have correa because he is the far superior player. but baez for $20 million a year is less than i thought he would go for in this market, and if its only for two years, that's a bonus too.

if michigan beats iowa, georgia will be kryptonite for them. that defense should be very very hard for michigan to move the ball on. but first thing's first: have to beat iowa. if you look at iowa's season, michigan should beat them easily. but iowa is sneaky. they play that dang cover 2 and they are positionally sound. they wont make the undisciplined stupid mistakes like osu did. theyre much better coached. they have a good defensive line, so it might be harder for michigan to run. on offense, they have poor tackles but a great center. they have poor qb play. they are sound, but dont have playmakers. michigan's ends should be a problem for them. look, they almost lost to northwestern. they were outgained or close to it in almost every game they played. they got lucky penn state's qb got hurt or that was a loss. they got outgained 2-1 against iowa state and still won. if michigan doesnt turn the ball over, they should win by two touchdowns.

great win. a little lucky, but that's ok. as much shit as i give ras, its obvious they trust him as a defensive center. he's out there in a lot of key defensive situations and he performed well tonight in them. also, good to see zadina score, but he - like ras - is becoming a better, more complete player. neither of them seem likely to be stars or to live up to their draft position, but they are looking like they can be valuable role players.
