  1. He is going to be the head of the union when he retires.
  2. It indicates that they are willing to spend.
  3. One Cub fan you know guaranteed that we will love him. 😄
  4. I would love to see them get another good starter in free agency. I don't think they should spend a lot on relievers.
  5. I don't think spending a lot of money on a reliever would be wise. There is too much variation from year to year with relievers and other teams have built good pens without spending money. Get some good cheap arms that didn't work out elsewhere and get the coaching staff to work with them. They could use another starter and another outfielder. I am really not expecting another really big signing at this point though.
  6. Interestingly, B-ref has Schoop as Baez's closest comparison. Looking at the numbers, they are very close offensively. Baez is a shortstop which gives him more value. He also has the tools to get better if someone can get through to him. That seems unlikely at this point, but not impossible at his age.
  7. As polarizing as Brandon Inge?
  8. Baez was exactly average on the Baseball Savant defense this year. Is this a fluke or has he peaked defensively? That's not to say that there would be anything wrong with an average shortstop. An average shortstop is a good defender.
  9. I am OK with this signing, but you sound like his agent!
  10. Everybody will make the playoffs next year.
  11. Why do the Republicans hate Fauci so much? i mean they seem to hate him even more than Obama. Is it just because he didn't kiss King Donald's ass?
  12. Jesse Rogers of ESPN reports that expanded postseason and a draft lottery are among the things being discussed in a potential new Collective Bargaining Agreemtn. The playoffs would expand to seven teams per league -- 14 overall -- and would involve a bye for the team with the best record in their respective league. The lottery would involve just the top three teams, but any team that didn't make the playoffs would have a chance to earn the first overall pick, similar to the NBA and NHL lotteries. The Collective Bargaining Agreement is set to expire at midnight on December 1. SOURCE: ESPN
  13. Who needs a free agent SS when you can get a 29 year-old minor league pitcher with an 8.42 ERA?
  14. Another change in law to benefit the wealthy! Gambling will be our new addiction epidemic.
  15. Now, if we are talking about race, that is a different story. There are no meaningful physiological differences between races, so it's easier to conclude that race is a social construct.
  16. There could be. Men and women are physiologically different. Could there not also be inherent behavioral differences? There are much more similarities than differences, but I do not think we can rule out the idea that there might be inherent differences beyond the obvious physiological ones.
  17. That is part of it.
  18. Baseball made it very clear for a long time that any kind of gambling in the game was strictly prohibited. Players didn't get to choose what kind of gambling they could do. It was all wrong... Until MLB figured out that it was profitable.
  19. Avila has never had a plan B before, so I suppose that would be progress.
  20. They need some defense up the middle, but Simmons had a .558 OPS this year. If they can't do better than that, they might as well go with Kreidler (who supposedly is a good defender).
  21. Tigers pursue. Rangers and Mets acquire.
  22. Boyd being non-tendered is kind of a big deal. It's not a big surprise, but he's been around for a long time and we once had high hopes.

  24. I remember the outrage when Wayne Garland signed for 10 years 2.3 million.
