  1. I think he would call it trolling, think it’s hilarious, and say our dumb liberal reactions is why he did it. … and then whatabout around it.
  2. The nature of text message campaigns is obscene and needs to be regulated, but these are the ones that are really getting under my skin. This is clearly a Trump group posing as a Harris group to rile up the progressives and get them to flip or stay home. It’s false advertising. I’ve gotten three just like it in the two days.
  3. I think the Texans were caught on a quick turnaround Thursday Night game looking ahead to the Lions. They'll be better than this next week.
  4. Do you think tens of thousands less people will vote for Harris than voted for Biden, or that tens of thousands more people who enjoy being openly racist exist now than existed in 2020? I know Trump supporters too. The ones I know have quieted down their passion since 2020, and certainly since 2016. They'll still likely vote for Trump as far as I know. But elections are won across a populace, not by the people me or you know personally.
  5. But to that point, Trump is the one who has led two ballots before, and been President. Contrary to what he may tell you, America wasn't great between 2017-2021. I think he'll get as much incumbent hate as Harris will for being attached to Biden.
  6. There is not one logical reason Trump will win this election. Breaking away from the eyes glued to the polls that are seemingly changing by the hour, a couple notes: 1. Harris has run a nearly flawless campaign. Better than Biden's in 2020, and head and shoulders above Clinton's in 2016. She has raised millions more than Trump, has inspired the youth vote from the second she became the candidate, and from the very beginning has had the infrastructure, the political operatives, and the political chops on her side to win a major American election. From a political standpoint, she does everything right. The only error I have seen as I became a more active engager in the last month was Biden's boneheaded comment calling Trump supporters garbage. Stupid comment on the same vein as "deplorables" was, but hardly James Comey level October surprise. Lucky for Harris nonetheless, she's on the ticket and not Biden. 2. On the other hand, Trump is a absolute dumpster fire. He's in New Mexico five days before the election. There is no rhyme or reason to anything he's done. Compared to Biden's "garbage" gaffe, Trump's Puerto Rico fiasco was 10x worse. He doesn't know what he's doing, and those around him are either too incompetent or too afraid to speak up and tell him. 3. By every standard that has mattered in modern day elections, Trump is the worst major party political candidate of all time. He doesn't add voters to his base. He doesn't even try. He just relies on his base. The same base of which its most fervent supporters - who traveled to DC and stormed the Capital - are now imprisoned. Can you imagine Trump compromising, or reaching across the aisle, or doing anything other than fear mongering? 4. In a continuation of the above, while I understand that Trump's candidacy has always defied logic, whatever magic he possessed in 2016 has run out. In 2016, it was novel. His schtick, a "successful" businessman with a catchy MAGA phrase who was going to "drain the swamp" and treat the US Government like a business, it all appealed to a lot of everyday people who were disenfranchised with the Democratic Party (particularly the so-called "establishment" that they saw of Hillary Clinton), and who had been told for eight years by the Republican Party that the Democrats were coming for their children and that Obama was a Muslim. In 2020, there was a redemption tour. He was an incumbent president who sold himself as a war time president (COVID) in a time when it was hard for Democrats to vote because of an ongoing pandemic. And he still lost. And then he led an attack on democracy the likes of which have never been seen domestically. In 2024, it's old. People are tired. People want him to go away. 5. People may not like Harris, but they don't hate her. Outside the never growing base of Trump supporters, people legitimately hate Trump. The general public might prefer Biden, or Buttigieg, or Warren, or Obama, or even Haley. But Harris is not Trump and so she is getting votes for that alone. When you talk about motivating the vote, hate for Trump is an easy one in 2024. 6. Turnout is going to be an all time high. There's no pandemic, while early voting and mail-in voting is more accessible than ever before. Turnout has always favored the Democratic party. I can point at polls and fear monger, but the polls don't make sense. There were warning signs in 2016. There are none now. Trump is old, washed up, a disgrace, a felon. He lost in 2020 and has only gotten worse, while the Dems candidate has gotten better. Trump is running only to keep himself out of prison. He won't win.
  7. I am this confident for the exact opposite result. Republicans have won ONE popular vote since 1988. Why is the third Trump ballot going to be different? People don’t like him. If enough people in the right states vote, Harris will win. And unless people are living under a rock, they’ll be voting. They already are. There are a ton of other more sophisticated reasons why I think she’ll win, but that’s the most basic and fundamental.
  8. Regarding extending Jamo, there are so many factors at play that it’s going to be a really difficult negotiation, even if we do want to keep him. You’re talking about a guy who’s played 24 games in three years, effectively a red shirt his first year and not a huge contributor his second. Been suspended six games with more possible down the line. Significant injury history, PED history, gambling history, now personal conduct history. Each of these is more risk added to the equation. I’m sure his side is going to want something like $25 million APY over 4-5 years. How do you justify that when you’ve seen how he acts getting $4 million a year? But he might get it on the open market. It’s not as relatively simple as negotiating with ASB where it’s just “let’s find the number and get this done.” I don’t think you can fault BH if he says, “we aren’t willing to give you more than a two year extension at market value,” because we just don’t know what’s next. Obviously there’s still a lot of time between now and then, especially in Jamo’s world where he averages bad press every few weeks.
  9. I strongly disagree with blaming a reporter for writing a story. Jamo is a public figure, not a 13yo kid. There’s no right to privacy when you break the law as an adult public figure. And there sure isn’t as police making judgement calls. Worthy’s office gets murders, rapes, and Armed Robbery on a daily basis. A news story about a celebrity getting a CCW is not a blip on their radar. He either will or won’t get charged, and it will be pursuant to their policy. And yes, it’s possible that decision will be impacted by the police handing their only piece of evidence right back to the subject. I don’t buy for a second that the next young black man not named Jameson Williams will be impacted by this story though. They’re not name dropping to get discretion like Jamo was. And it sure looks like it worked. Blaming the story is goalpost shifting, plain and simple. Jamo is incredibly immature, and he needs to figure it out, or he’s not going to get a second contract in Detroit.
  10. In Michigan at least, a voter can spoil an unreceived absentee ballot (but not an Early Vote) up until 4pm the Monday before Election Day. So if there are num nuts like this in Michigan who have already mailed it their ballot, but it has not been received, it's not too late to call their clerk, sign a paper, spoil it, and get a new ballot (or vote in person). Of course, if they early voted, or if their vote has been received and counted, it's locked in stone.
  11. Hearing from Justin Rogers that the team knew about this event weeks ago is a relief. Breaching the teams’ trust may have been a fatal sin. Campbell‘s comments that he trusted Jamo but that he had lost grip on the rope were made knowing this was likely coming down the line.
  12. Update: I got seven different reactions to the Goff jersey, all positive. One guy started a Jared Goff chant with me. One commiserated over the Bears misery with me (Commies fan). Several just said “Go Lions!” It’s nice to be proud to wear this jersey rather than just getting others’ sympathy.
  13. Agreed. Quite possible Jamo costs someone who doesn’t make millions a job though. (Their actions will have cost them their job, but the point remains that it wouldn’t have happened if not for Jamo).
  14. Richardson was the youngest starting QB in the NFL last year. After getting hurt last year, he came into this year….. as the youngest starting QB in the NFL. If the Colts didn’t think the kid needed coaching they were fooling themselves. He probably shouldn’t have started this season, and definitely shouldn’t have started last season. If anything the lesson to be learned is to not tap yourself out, but just go down. Then you have to go out one play.
  15. I don’t think the Chief would have been quoted through a Department source as being “pissed off” if everything was done by the book.
  16. My boss gave me his season tickets for the night. I am wearing my Jared Goff jersey.
  17. Right. I think it’s up in the air whether the celebrity actually gets charged, let alone convicted. The real news story is a police supervisor showing up to a scene where the officer was doing everything right, having a Lions phone background, immediately recognizing the Lions player, making some calls, and presto he’s released. That’s not okay.
  18. I think he should move in with Grandma Hamp instead
  19. Sure if he kept his big mouth shut. But the story says he admitted to police it was his gun. If an average Joe would get charged and booked for it, therein lies the problem.
  20. I’m not going to blame the news for reporting when an immature player makes a boneheaded decision, admits it to the police, and then the police try to cover it up for him. Looking at the totality of the circumstances, he’s probably not going to get punished that severely, by either the law (if he can be charged at all at this point, I’m not a lawyer but their only evidence was handed right back to him) or the league (for all his troubles this is his first violation of the personal conduct policy). The Cowboys’ Sam Williams was recently suspended three games for two arrests, one which resulted in a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon during a traffic stop. I would guess he’s eventually looking at something similar, though he might be able to delay it to next season. Him name dropping the Lions like that isn’t going to do him any favors with the league.
  21. All I needed to see: “I play for the Lions, bro. I’m Jameson Williams,” he said at one point. Minutes later, he said: “Bro, I play for the Detroit Lions.” Minutes after that, he said once more: “Bro, I play for the Lions!”
  22. The maturity just ain’t where it needs to be on this team.
  23. I’m not as worried about the pass rush as I am about setting the edge. We’ve been getting a decent pass rush from the interior between McNeill, Levi, and Reader. I don’t think Love will be comfortable back there. I am more concerned about whoever we put at edge being able to prevent Josh Jacobs from running right by them into the secondary. Or, alternatively, Love getting pressure in his face by that interior and then running right by the edge into the secondary. If he’s hobbled that will help the latter.
