Week Four: Detroit Lions (2-1) @ Green Bay Packers (2-1)

Damn, almost a pick there. -
I believe Norman's profile pick was literally Martin Mayhew lol. I stayed around to take my lumps on Connor Cook and saying Matt Stafford wouldn't make a deep playoff run or win a Super Bowl.

Does the pass rush look more like last week or more like the first two weeks? -

I thought based on the injury report we were going to be without Jackson, among others. Looks like we might have every starter tonight sans Vaitai on the Oline which is great. -
I think I started posting on the old board back in mid-2009, around the NFL draft time. I don't remember Kitna back then. I do remember wanting Aaron Curry over Matt Stafford or Mark Sanchez at the time. I also remember wanting any one of Michael Oher, Alex Mack, Peria Jerry, Rey Maualuga, or Louis Delmas with that second 1st rounder. I crapped all over the Pettigrew pick and got into heated arguments with Normin and Nastradamus about it.

We're going to have no Oline yet again for this game. No Decker, no Jackson, no Vatai, no Nelson. -
I miss Stormin' Norman from back in the day on the old board telling us that Martin Mayhew was a good GM and that we had a talented roster every year, only to watch us fall on our face.

That was a disgrace. Did we ever even find out what we wrong with Levy in the end? He played one game after getting that extension it felt like and that was it.
-
You were right. Willie would randomly stop signing and his son would take over. That said, it was a lot of fun to smoke a couple of joints and see Willie Nelson live. He's 90 years old, so I can forgive him for not being as spry as he once was.

I think Martin Mayhew is one of the worst General Managers in the league now and was when he was here as well. In hindsight, Mayhew got bailed out by Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson. I think Schwartz wasn't a great coach and led an undisciplined team that always made a series of little mistakes. I think he also deserves criticism for hanging onto Scott Linehan and his vanilla offensive system for too long. He also allowed Matt Stafford to be reckless with the football at times and force passes that would be come turnovers. But Schwartz also got a raw deal here with the **** talent that Mayhew gave him to work with. Now, some of that poor talent may fall on him as well because one would presume he was in the war room on draft day and at least had some input on personnel decisions. Mayhew was just not a good drafter though. He had 1st round picks the likes of Butterfingers Brandon Pettigrew, lazy and unmotivated Nick Fairley, and concussion-prone Jahvid Best. His 2nd round record was a total abomination outside of Darius Slay and maybe Louis Delmas (who I wanted at the time). He drafted a player who potentially had undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenia in Titus Young, Ryan Broyles with no ACL, and Mikel Leshoure who got caught driving around with weed all over his car and tried eating it on a traffic stop. The 3rd round is probably where Mayhew did his best, getting DeAndre Levy and Larry Warford. But with so many high profile, high round busts, that type of poor drafting track record is hard for a coach to overcome. Now, if Schwartz was involved in many or all of those personnel moves, I have little sympathy for him.

I think in this particular instance it was the people around him telling him it would be a good PR look for him with his base primary voters without thinking through the entire situation.

Damn, I just went and looked it up on ESPN and Love is 32nd in the league right in front of Wilson. I didn't realize Love was that inaccurate and poor of a passer. I'm sure it isn't all on him, but 53.1% is downright dreadful for a starting QB in the NFL. I think fans are haunted by the ghosts of Packers teams past, with them finding Farve out of nowhere and then transitioning right to Aaron Rodgers without missing a beat. If you dive into the stats for Jordan Love, at least thus far, Farve and Rodgers he is not. So we can all collectively pump the breaks a bit that they've gotten the second coming of Farve or Rodgers and won't miss a beat as a franchise. -
Week Three: Atlanta Falcons (2-0) @ Detroit Lions (1-1)

I was very much concerned about the direction of this defensive front and their lack of any sort of ability to generate QB pressure outside of Aiden. They answered back in a big way yesterday. While I don't expect them to get 6-7 sacks every week, I feel better about where there at on the defensive front, if yesterday was any indication. Its nice to see Charles Harris and others not named Aiden step up and get at the QB. I hope the defensive play calling and bringing more than 4 stays as well. I really appreciated Glenn's aggressiveness. -
How the fudge do you give up 70 points in the NFL!!! The Dolphins have an electric offense. Meanwhile, the Broncos, even with Sean Payton, are complete trash. They sold everything to get Russ and he's just not good anymore and it doesn't look like Sean Payton has any magic in him to turn Wilson around.

I feel much better for sure given that they held Atlanta offensively scoreless and had a killer pass rush today against a mobile QB. Their pass rush was monstrous today and stepped up in a big way and was backed up by strong playcalling from Aaron Glenn. It's a positive sign to see Glenn match Campbell's offensive aggressiveness on defense and dial up more blitz packages today. Also, Sam LaPorta gives me George Kittle vibes with the way he goes for the ball and pushes for all the YAC yards he can get. LaPorta looks like a stud if this level of play stays consistent. -

I made that bet on Knight scoring 2 TDs today. Oh well, probably not winning today bet. -

Well, we left it up to the 4th quarter to try and win this game. Hopefully Atlanta isn't the 4th quarter team they have been. But all the punts in the 3rd quarter, not good enough from this offense. -

I've always dunked on the Lions for drafting TEs early on in the draft, but not with LaPorta. Love this dude! -

Hopefully this defense holds and plays as good as they did on the first two drives. Hopefully we get sustained pressure too on Ridder. Keep it up AG! -
