  1. And transcendent players....he doesn't have those here.
  2. We have to get on base...but this is nice to see:
  3. Hinch was in the room because Ilitch saddled him with Avila for a year and a half. He had some leverage because the team and org got worse. He also has some significant influence on player development. I'm sure he feels a lot better about things with a seemingly competent executive team. But we'll see.
  4. They had one of the worst mlb offenses in recent memory last year. They brought in some guys on the margins(Vierling, Maton) and have basically run the rest of the lineup back. If you want to blame Hinch for the same guys looking terrible through 3 games, that's ok with me. And you can also blame him for not demanding more immediate upgrades. But this is the roster he was given. It's a substandard offensive roster even if some performance reverts back to career norms.
  5. It is a shame that Ilitch hired Hinch and made him work with Avila for 1.5 seasons. The damage that Avila continued to do buried us deeper in this abyss. I think Hinch and Harris are more or less tied at the hip. Hinch will leave on his own volition if he thinks this is another 5-6 year project. But right now, I think they both agree on the trajectory of the org.
  6. captain obvious on ESPN: I wonder if putting so much existential pressure on Greene and Tork has affected them mentally. If they don't develop into above average major leaguers, we are even more screwed.
  7. Lynn Henning talking down to fans and defending managment? shocking.
  8. i miss not having a shutdown starter...Maybe we get that kind of juice when Skubal comes back.
  9. Pudge, Magglio, and Prince were all good deals. We suckered Texas into taking Prince and got Kinsler to lengthen our contending window.
  10. They are going to be bad this season. There is an intangible value to giving your fans some faint hope even it's not going to impact your team significantly. But we didn't acquire many outside solutions. Harris can't just sit on bad performance like Avila did. Another few series of lifeless baseball and he has to churn the bottom of the roster.
  11. I need more reasons to pay attention to this team if they are bad. Watching most of the same guys fail who were last year is part of the problem. At the very least, you can change the narrative that we aren't repeating 2022. The entire premise for this season was "they can't be as bad offensively as last year." Every podcast and preview had that premise. The Tigers were looking for 2-3 WAR players, not 5 WAR guys. The expectations here are very low.
  12. The downside of endless tanking with a clueless executive. Players and agents are smarter than we all think. And now that we are out of the Boras business, you aren't geting any favors from him.
  13. If Greene, Tork, and Meadows all suck then this rebuild will take another 10 years.
  14. Probably not. But give me a few guys to watch while you continue to add talent organically through the minors.
  15. McKinstry is a test for Harris. He thinks giving this guy platoon at-bats with Schoop is a workable interim solution. It will end up not mattering. I doubt Schoop or Mckinstry will be on the roster in a few months.
  16. This isn't a salary cap sport like nba or nfl. There are always ways to improve your major league team incrementally with free agents.
  17. Schoop should have been DFA'd at the end of last season. You aren't going to get any value out that salary. I'm not sure they have a second baseman who can take over as of now. Or they don't have a 3B if Maton moves.
  18. This isn't about Chris's neglect on April 2, 2023. His neglect from 2016 until today is what lead this current product. They could have signed a few legit major league hitters to give the fans something to care about. He could have overriden Harris' McKinsey approach and thrown us a bone. Instead, we are stuck waiting for their young players to declare themselves as busts or contributors before they decide to make substantive change.
  19. I know Chris Ilitch isn't watching. And we already fired the GM who is responsible. So we are the people who have to suffer through another 90 loss season.
  20. Turnbull deserves some leniency here; First start after TJ surgery.
  21. Winning obviously is irrelevant this year. I just need to see a flicker of hope from a young player lol. My expectations are very low.
  22. Tampa's hard contact is finding gaps and now runs.
  23. They can't possibly be as bad an offense as last year...they can't possibly be as bad an offense as last year...they can't possibly...
  24. This guy is going go play a lot?
