1. Darvin Ham is the Eric Bieniemy of the NBA. Involved in almost every coaching search but never gets the job.
2. I just bought my dad $10K worth of IBonds @ 9.62%. I'm pretty sure my parents had a mortgage with a rate of 16% on my childhood home. This article says CDs paid 18% in the early 80s. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bankrate.com/banking/cds/historical-cd-interest-rates/amp/
3. I believe the silly part is thinking 1.5 points will fix it. Wake me up when rates are > 8%.
4. They are saying a half point bump three times this year. Fed to fight inflation with fastest rate hikes in decades
5. Reports that Embiid has started the process to obtain a French passport so he can play with the French national team. Just play Embiid, Gobert, and Wembanyama at the same time.
6. Givony released his about a week ago. Interest to see the differences. https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/insider/story/_/id/33795097/2022-nba-mock-draft-teams-pick-based-latest-nba-lottery-projections Rockets - Chet Holmgren Magic - Jabari Smith Pistons - Paolo Banchero Thunder - Jaden Ivey Pacers - Keegan Murray Trailblazers - Shaedon Sharpe Kings - Johnny Davis Pelicans (via Lakers) - AJ Griffin Spurs - Jalen Duren Wizards - Dyson Daniels
7. Sam Vecenie released his big board 4.0 today. Strictly a top prospect list, no team needs taken into account. https://theathletic.com/3277809/2022/05/02/2022-nba-draft-big-board-jabari-smith-chet-holmgren/ Jabari Smith Jr. Chet Holmgren Paolo Banchero Jaden Ivey Keegan Murray Benedict Mathurin Shaedon Sharpe AJ Griffin Jeremy Sochan Dyson Daniels
8. Reality TV has taken over Netflix.
9. The "water" at the Miami GP.
10. The Journal had an article about the supply shortage. Those are some big numbers but they are also from a lobbying group. So I was a little skeptical. Then I found this from an economist at Freddie Mac. The numbers are a bit different but still very large. They break things down a bit further and get to a really big problem, we don't build nearly enough starter/entry-level homes. Going from 400K units per year in the 70s to 65K last year is a huge problem.
11. I'm curious to see what happens to housing prices. I have a theory that so many people bought and/or refinanced at sub 3% that they won't want to sell with higher rates. That will limit inventory and keep prices elevated.
12. Tim Cook is the best CEO in the game. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2022/04/apple-reports-second-quarter-results/
13. Amazon posting some ugly numbers today. Rivian is turning into a disaster for Amazon and Ford. Rivian stock price is down about 70% the past 6 months and I read a lot of their top talent is/has left. Amazon shares plunge 10% after company issues disappointing revenue forecast
14. Our first NIL holdout?
15. FWIW his top five is Cade Barnes Mobley Green Wagner
16. Sorry I'm on my phone and trying to format that is a disaster.
17. Sam Vecenie had an article on The Athletic today about redrafting last years draft. He said he is going strictly off of looking term potential and not this years play. He still would take Cade #1 and he said this about him:
Cunningham would not be my Rookie of the Year pick, given the yearlong consistency of how good the following two guys on this list were. But I’m still rocking with him, long-term, as the guy to bet on in this class, and his close to the season is the biggest reason why. I thought Cunningham’s close for the Pistons was a better stretch than any other rookie this season. In his final 21 games, Cunningham averaged 21 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. The 3-point shot didn’t fall at the level expected, but I’m not all that worried long-term. He suffered an ankle injury entering the season, and those can be extremely difficult to come back from. He has a smooth release with good footwork that should translate to him being an effective pull-up shooter. He makes effective reads out of ball screens and consistently keeps the ball moving offensively. He’s unselfish. His assists don’t come as a function of him dribbling the ball into the ground but rather from decisions that keep the ball moving around the perimeter or off drive-and-kicks. On top of the offense, he was an effective, switchable defender, which should translate toward him being a plus defender in big moments. Everything about Cunningham’s game translates toward effectiveness in the playoffs, as soon as the shot translates. I think he’s the guy I most buy turning into a top-10 player in the league at some point.
18. They were expecting 1% GDP growth last quarter but they just announced it was negative 1.1%.
19. Tough break for Milwaukee. Shams reported that Middleton is out for round two against Boston and might even miss the conference finals if they advance.
