Flaherty will probably want to sign at a place he can have a chance of winning. That's not in detroit.

Spring training has never been a tryout camp ever. It os preseason to help get the people that are going to make the roster in shape. At most, there might be a bullpen position up for grabs and maybe one position player spot that can be decided. They know what the regular season roster will be before spring training starts.

My vote goes for Chet Lemon. He was a great center fielder. He could hit, steal a bag if he needed. His career WAR is 55.7. I know WAR has limitations, but it is higher than HOFers like Joe Mauer, David Ortiz, Hank Greenberg, Tony Perez, Kirby Puckett, Jim Rice, Lou Brock, Harold Baines...

But you can get upgraded seats next year.

I think there is a solution you are probably missing. If you like the direction the team is going in, then more power to you. And I'd rather watch him pitch his final 2 years here instead of getting some crappy light hitting middle infield prospects that the Tigers always seem to trade for.

Next year they can trade Skubal for prospects, then the following year, Riley Greene.

That's debatable. Having a guy who is doing okay in AA doesn't mean it was a success. We'll see. And they are going to be trying to flip guys for the next 10 years?

I think the season's goal is now to reach 65 wins. It is going to be a tough hurdle to get over.

I think they signed Flaherty just to try to trade him at the deadline. I think that is a terrible model to follow. It's a loser's plan. They aren't going to get anything of worth for him.

It's amazing that a guy simply runs and gets hurt. I was always expecting Cabrera to get hurt just walking to the buffet table after the game. These guys never would have lasted a few decades ago.

The Tigers haven't won 2 games in a row since June 4. Yikes.

They went into the season knowing they were going to be sellers. It's a long road back to mediocrity.

Judge, Soto, and Stanton have 69 HRs this season. The Tigers have 74. If those guys all didn't spend some time on the IL, they would be ahead of the Tigers.

I remember hearing he had an average fastball but he relied on secondary pitches to get outs. That is a risky combination for #1 overall. Just because people who don't work for mlb teams think someone is the best, doesn't mean anything. Maybe I am being cynical but I can just see the brain trust looking at a draft website and making their selections based on that...kind of Millenesque.

This is a bad pitching match up for the Tigers but it's not like the Angela have an amazing offense.

Mize and Torkelson were stat accumulators in college, but probably don't have an above average mlb skill set. It doesn't matter how awesome Mize's stats were in college, but he had a 93 mlh fastball coming out with no swing and miss pitch. No way was that going to dominate mlb hitters.

They brought him to the majors way too soon. He played one season in the minors and 40 games at AAA, where he hit .238. The organization didn't do him any favors.

Plus they seem like they care that there are fans there. MLB has a certain arrogance when it comes to fans, like we are lucky they exist and should thank them for allowing us to spend $100+ to watch a terrible product. But yea, the team sucks but now you watch them suck from upgraded seats. Minor league games have all sorts of give aways, stuff between innings, etc Just a lot better experience.

His career BA in the minors is .259, he was never that impressive of a hitter past A ball.

Hinch is so superior to any other manager that he is already initiating strategies for 2026. I will bet anyone that he could destroy any competition in Old Maid or Candy Land; he could probably be world champ at either of those. He's just that good at everything.
