  1. You can say that about a lot of guys. Most people's memories of Cabrera are a big, out of shape, rotund guy struggling to hit the ball out of the infield with any sort of force and hoping he doesn't snap his tibia waddling to 1st base. I think the same thing is going to happen to Verlander. He is going to stick around trying to get 300 wins. He will be like Steve Carlton back in the day.
  2. He isnt even the best pitcher still active. Kershaw is by far the greatest active pitcher and you can make a case that Scherzer is better. Roger Clemens is the greatest pitcher of all time, in my opinion. Johnson and Maddux have to rate much higher than Verlander. Pedro Martinez was so much better than his peers for about 5 or 6 years straight that he has to be in the conversation. Sandy Koufax is still alive.
  3. I don't believe Harris is incompetent and he will do his best with the resources he is allocated. I believe Ilitch is hands off but would prefer to spend less since he is going to make money either way. I do believe he doesn't care if they win or not, but I also don't understand the business plan of all the day games. I assume the franchise decides the game times. And having so many day games has to hurt attendance and the money from concessions. I think roster construction is like a river flowing to the sea. It is constantly changing and players either sink or swim on their way. I was responding to a poster who thought Keith should just shift to 1st and was having problems understanding why anyone would want to put a below average hitter at 2nd base into a premier hitting position. Players fail all the time and if these guys there now fail, there should be players coming up through the minors to get their shot. I can't really say I am excited with Hinch as the manager. I think his lineup construction and shifting players to different positions does not help things. I think he is pretty shady and thought he should have received a lifetime ban, but that doesn't matter now I suppose. I don't know if the manager really impacts the bottom line that much.
  4. Bonds is the greatest player I have ever seen. During his playing days 85% of the players were on roids. He was just better. And taking roids doesn't suddenly make you a great hitter, and he had the quickest bat around. I also believe he started taking roids after Sosa and Mcguire had their HR runs. You could make the case that since MLB was happy for the home run chase and openly welcomed roid use, he didn't do anything that was frowned down upon. It was only after the fact that MLB suddenly decided roids were evil. But if you don't want to acknowledge Bonds, Pujols has a case.
  5. You can never have enough decent catchers. Plus if Dingler can actually hit, you will probably prefer he plays DH part of the time so he doesn't get injured constantly. Having a bunch of guys that can catch 80 games a year is a good thing.
  6. If the plan would be to put one of the worst hitting 2nd baseman in the league as your 1st baseman, a position that should provide your most power, then what the hell is the point of even constructing a roster? I understand he could improve as a hitter, but there are actually guys who can hit .230 with 30 hrs a year.
  7. So....now we are going to move a below average hitting 2nd baseman to 1st base? Keith would be the absolute worst offensive 1st baseman in the league. He has a .579 OPS, 3 hrs, and is basically a really bad singles hitter. He might get better, but his offense would still likely be bottom 3 or 4 in the league and he isnt going to help out on defense. If this is the plan, why not just disband the team?
  8. Why not go all the back 50 years before trout and ohtani played while you're at it. They have 9 seasons in a row with a losing record. Not sure what going back to 2000 has to do with trout and ohtani, but don't let those facts get in the way. No different than saying this iteration of the Tigers don't suck, because they won the WS in 1984.
  9. Whe ever I think how pathetic an organization the Tigers are, I can always look at the Angels of the past 5 years and know they had 2 of the greatest players ever and still sucked.
  10. Ilitch is making money off this garbage product, so it's a success for him.
  11. I get the point about surgery, but if he doesn't improve, what value does he actually have?
  12. If it wasn't for Mize's draft position, do you think he would be in long relief out in the bullpen?
  13. Maybe, but there are probably 20 other candidates for that.
  14. Schwellenbach on his way to a Cy Young...Oops he's pitching against the Tigers.
  15. He's basically the same guy with below average stuff who gets hit hard before and after the surgery.
  16. Seriously, some of you need to go find your safe zone, cuddle up with a box of tissues, and have a good cry. "Some mean random person on the internet doesn't want some Tiger to get a hit....mommy, they aren't a real fan!"
  17. Does anyone seriously think they have a realistic shot of grabbing a WC spot?
  18. Ain't going to make a difference in my life.
  19. I know they won't, but it's still cool to see a no hitter. Not sure why some posters are taking it personally that someone wants to see a no hitter.
  20. Nope, but if you are excited about a team that gets shutout anytime they face an average or better pitcher...to quote you "so be it" and "but whatever."
  21. What's the point getting excited about a **** product?
  22. Why? Do you care that much about the ****ty product they put on the field? I would love them to get embarrassed repeatedly so there will be some sort of change...i.e. new manager, better players, etc.
  23. I'm pulling for a few quick innings so Blanco can get the no hitter.
