  1. From what I have read it was WJR's decision. Jim Long (no relation) ran it and he wanted the change. Bo didn't push hard to fight it and felt as the boss of the Tigers it was his job to take the heat, so I guess give him credit for that. I think he was ambivalent over it and didn't appreciate the love people had for Ernie. Maybe being in his UM Football bubble he just didn't get it and didn't realize it would be such a big deal. This was before twitter and all of that so all we had to go by was what people like Joe Falls and Mitch Albom would talk about. I trust Joe more than Mitch, looking back. Joe wrote in his book that he was pretty sick when it happened so he wasn't writing any columns. But that gave him time to not react. He started to think about it some more and it didn't make sense to him. He sort or criticized Ernie a little bit. You sign a one year contract then go into their building and have a press conference and it starts to become a blood bath against your employer? In fact WJR wanted to get rid of Ernie immediately and Bo fought for one more year with a huge raise. Joe arranged a meeting with Bo and when he pulled up to his house he saw Mitch leaving... Bo double crossed him by meeting with Mitch first. This was also on the heels of the Save Tiger Stadium issue so public sentiment towards the Tigers and Bo was pretty negative.
  2. I always had a soft spot for AJ Pierzynski. He'd carry a smirk like he knew he was being a **** but it worked. I never understood the heat he got in 2005 in the playoffs for pretending the ball was foul tipped on strike 3. It was a genius play. Tigers should go after the O's guy now.
  3. 49.... but who's counting. Never understood the Ford Pardon controversy from the standpoint that he 'cut a deal' for a pardon in exchange for resignation. Ford didn't have to do any deal. Nixon had no leverage. Ford was going to be the next President regardless. That's not to address whether he should have done it. But I'll go ahead and blame the media for some of that. A month into his Presidency and every question Ford got was about Nixon. He had problems to address and too much of his time was spent answering those questions.
  4. Is he including decimal points? that person thinks someone out there will give him a 5/20 or 6/17 per year? I don’t see it.
  5. With someone like Swift the fans want the whole performance. The visual and the audio are equally important. Besides the crowd is singing along every note so who cares if there’s backing. I loved the passion of the swifties. Not my thing but I don’t get in the way of what others like.
  6. Hired Guns taught me that Nugent didn’t sing his studio songs.
  7. Vince Gilligan and David Chase have exposed me to music I would never have listened to.
  8. I’d be interested to know the demos of those numbers. Also as people transition from middle aged to old do their voting preferences change? When I think of elderly I am thinking 80+. Middle aged? 40-60. Whats 60-80? also it only matters which demo comes out to vote. Maybe that’s why republicans want to get rid of voting outside the window of “in person 8-5 pm on Election Day.”
  9. Not so much cheating but eliminating or restricting the methods of voting. Republicans think you should be only allowed to vote on Election Day between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm and you stop counting votes at 9 pm so that the media can declare a winner at 11 pm.
  10. Maybe this convo should be moved to the discussion thread but I really don't want him on the team. I think he's going to be a head case. If he's on the team, fine, but don't build around him or plan on him being an anchor in the rotation. Don't base another deal on "Well we have him already". Because he might leave.
  11. I could watch Uncomfortable DeSantis videos all night long...
  12. There's people on twitter who legit believe that Harris cares what they think.
  13. yeah the spamming of memes needs to stop. Engage all you want but doing nothing but posting pictures and tweets is not engaging. It's littering and does not add any value to the site. It's pollution. You need to stop or else you will be stopped.
  14. That was such an awesome moment and makes me sad to think about how much fun it was at Comerica Park during that run.
  15. I always like to point out that Gretzky said his dream was to play SS for the Detroit Tigers. So he wanted to be Alan Trammell. Wonder if Tram knows that? On a similar note, last week after a game a friend and I got to talking about drummers, then that led to Rush, then Geddy Lee.... and we wondered if he used to be a Tigers fan since he came up before the Blue Jays existed. I know he's a huge baseball fan and has maybe the largest collection of memorabilia outside of the baseball HOF. He made a large donation to the Negro League Museum.
  16. I don't know that getting something for him was his job. His job is to improve the ballclub and if someone else wasn't offering something he felt improved the ballclub then it's his job to not make that move. "Improve the ballclub" is a broad term that can mean both player personnel and business considerations. Keeping a good player on the team isn't a bad outcome. Trading ERod was an objective assigned by fans and media but not necessarily by his actual bosses.
  17. It shows the difference of a national writer who looks at from a broader perspective rather than local fans/media who only look at it from one team's perspective.
  18. I start my work day at home and put on Fox 2 News and there's this strange sporting event on involving people from other countries that seemingly never ends. WHen it's finally completed they spend 10 minutes showing me half the participants hugging and crying.
  19. Don’t make me say nice things about him.
  20. If he opts out and his agent calls the Tigers Harris will be like “new phone who dis?’ He is being polite and diplomatic now because he’s on his team and may be for a few more years. The second he’s not then he’s done with him.
  21. I’m not sure he’s worth more than his current deal. I’m fine if it opts out and leaves.
  22. Kind of a gift on strike 3 but whatevs
  23. He's like Nick Adams.... so good I'm not sure it's just a burner account.
  24. You have to gather evidence and it appears all of the evidence came from the GOP sources and that took some time to work though since they wouldn't just volunteer it. If they had arrested him in July 2021 they wouldn't have had a lesser chance at conviction.
