I did some travelling last week to visit cousins and between that and the Pistons I have so much to catch up on. No Andor yet and we need episode 3 of Last of Us.

Yes, as stated nothing other than the required number of voters voting for him is keeping Bonds out. He's on the ballot. he's not kicked out of baseball. The people entrusted to vote for him at this stage of eligibility haven't done so. When it comes time for the Veterans ballots he'll probably get in, as will the others.

They know it does but they have to convince the minions that it doesn't. One the one hand you have cabinet members and press secretaries and favorite media members saying "This will hurt but it has to hurt in order to work" and their boss saying "We didn't do this' Both of those can't be true.

Regarding the baseball HOF.... they are a non profit with their own board of directors. I just checked and it does include Mandred, Reinsdorf, Art Moreno, and a handful of former players like Ripken, Griffey, Ozzie, and BIggio. But also business leaders. I"m sure they are governed by a set of bylaws that can't be deviated from so anything regarding Pete's election to the HOF would go through the normal channels, meaning he has to be voted onto a ballot then voted again for unduction. That means 24 out of 32 people have to agree to put him in. (12 of 16 on each). That is a tall order.

I don't think they'll get a lot of bad press. They will from die hards in outlets with small viewings. But on CBS This Morning or NBC Today or The Bob and Joe Zany Zoo Morning Show in Santa Fe, NM they will be talking about it in a not so negative light. Your average person on the street who knows who Pete Rose is will say something like "It's been long enough, the man is dead, gambling sponsors the games... it's time" That's the depth they will take this. I don't know what Manfred will do. My gut says nothing will change but I wouldn't bet $100 on it.
-
all of what you said is true.... and in a weird way now makes me think there's a chance they will do it. The last time this came up with Manfred his comment or statement was effectively "Why? What's changed? There's no reason to do it now vs 5 years or 10 years ago" Many of us here are dead against it but I think we're in the minority. People under 40 don't care, to them Pete Rose may as well be Shoeless Joe. Some old guy who was last relevent 40 years ago. And baseball doesn't care if they piss off old people. Think about it... Pete's prime is as far from us now as Shoeless Joe's prime was when Rose played. I wouldn't put it past Manfred to consider that in a resintatement. He gets good press and the only expense of upsetting dinosaurs mad who are still whining about pitch clocks and DH's.

I'm back in my "tune out" mode because frankly... it doesn't matter. There's nothing that can be done until January 2027 at the earliest if the GOP loses the House. The Senate is a huge long shot. Even then I won't put it past this admin to do extreme events like declaring Martial Law or whatever or to keep arresting judges.

the best teams still lose 3 times a week

Honestly I would have guessed longer.

We put the AC on today. My display said it was 86 outside. It was 83 in the house and the windows were open but the wind was blowing crap everywhere. It’s going to be 40 at 7 am.

I knew her from Dallas, Carrie, and Nightmare on Elm Street. 100 year old. What a life!

The deal was Canada paid for the Bridge (Are we going to call it The Gordie?) but they collect all the tolls to pay for it. I can't wait for him to bitch about that. "How come they get all the money????"

and continuing on..... indoor baseball doesn't count.

I've said this before but the stirrups is a good example of changing values in baseball, especially in context of today's game with the things modern players do that some people don't like. That stirrup look was once considered flashy. Jim Bouton talked about it in his book. The generation of black players that began to thrive after integration started wearing their stirrups like that to show more socks. It was their way of bonding with each other. The old timers of the time didn't like it. I see it and it makes me feel like you do... yes, that's how you do it. It's how I did it when I played.

that just reminded me we never watched the last episode of season 3. that's how much we were into it.

I remember when Seger wouldn't get in... then he releases a new album and he got in. The historical element is great beause I learn about people from a long time ago that I wasn't aware of. And the industry itself has changed so much in the last 10-15 years I wonder how that will play out. Who from 2008-2025 will be considered Rock and Roll to the point of getting into the HOF? There is no modern form of Rock and Roll in terms of mainstream appeal.

Of course Mickey has his flannel.

Karl Ravech said he’d had highlights for us “after the Yankee game”

We had fun at the game. It was worth the $350 I spent overall. My son isn’t into baseball like I am and this game has the adrenaline rush. Sure they lost but we had a good time. Ben Stiller and Timothy Chalamet were sitting underneath us. Not close mind you. We were in the upper bowl they were in the first row behind the hockey boards. But people kept stopping for selfies. that might have been the most energetic game in that buildings history.

Your Mount Rushmore Of.................Comedy Movies
oblong replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in General Discussion
I know the hardest I ever laughed in the theater came from 3 movies: Naked Gun (when he was peeing with his mic on) Dumb and Dumber (when they ate the burger with the hot sauce/peppers) Something about Mary (the hair "gel") But I think laughter is not always the best indicator. I can think something is funny but only chuckle. Like Fletch. If I tried to tell someoen who didn't see it why it was funny, they'd just nod. But if you watch it, you should chuckle throughout. It's not Airplane funny but I don't think it makes it less funny. Just different. Dr. Strangelove is to me an all timer but I get that darker humor and real satire goes over people's heads. Superbad is one I finally watched about 3 years ago and really laughed hard. I missed out on it at the time and just never got around to it. Watched with my son. -

so tough because of the genres. Spoofs? Satire? Raunch? Zany? Character driven? -
Black church is different than white church. They had a good time and were in a good mood. I overheard a co worker the other day talking with her husband, she's black, about whether they were going to another friend's church, also black and a pastor.

better lobbyists.

riiiiiiight. Thats the problem with using vice taxes for things other than addressing the vice. What would happen to our municipal budgets if everybody woke up tomorrow and decided "I'm not smoking anymore".

Opus Dei. That is the scary sect.
