  1. Ike Blessit claims Billy called him at the Lindell AC that he needed him to a girl home. She was at the Leland Hotel. When Ike showed up he was told by her she was 15 and lived in Birmingham. Ike wasn’t keen on, as a black adult man, driving a white 15 year old home at 1 am to Birmingham so he called her a cab. billy was pissed and Ike blames him for torpedoing his MLB career to prevent even a modest pension. Man I wish the Lindell was still around. Loved that place. I went twice. Stood in the way of the Rosa Parks bus station so it wouldn’t have survived its location. But given that areas resurgence there’s a need for old school bars. I fear those that were around Joe Louis Arena. They lost that and downtown traffic during the day.
  2. I use my delta Amex on any bills that accept it and all groceries. I pay it off each month. Even with the annual fee I figured I come out ahead with our two to three trips a year.
  3. There is a place on van born across from midway driving range that is good.
  4. He would have fit right in during the 60s and 70s covering up Billy Martins shenanigans with young girls.
  5. That makes the dream team snub of Isiah that much more painful.
  6. i only knew who he was because of the Greta thing yesterday.
  7. If there were a red wave I could see them discarding him but…. They need that vote. I have no idea the mechanics of his replacement but they won’t take a chance.
  8. That plays out when I see people responding to some of the automation we see in retail as a direct response to people “demanding $25 an hour min wage”. No. It’s because innovation is a thing and always will be. Nobody lost a job because of a kiosk at Taco Bell. Nobody lost a job because at lowes because of self check out. Every time I go to those two places, which is often, I see signs asking for help. Yet I can order Taco Bell every Sunday as I do off my app and walk in and pick it from a shelf. I’m painting my office during the break and have been to lowes 4 times in 2 days. Both times used self check out. I think people don’t like the “extra work” of doing something themselves so they once again yell at a mythical figure. They want to feel empowered by being able to talk down to a service worker. Some things are beneath them but not other people.
  9. I buy into that theory of early retirees. The right wingers have turned it into a “people are lazy” trope but that’s not it. It’s their viewers probably. The baby boomers have now reached the point where them majority are past a retirement age. The pandemic hastened it. People cut back and realized they didn’t miss what they cut out. The right has a natural grievance philosophy so they have to blame somebody. Their voters need a bad guy. “Nobody wants to work” is convenient because it goes after fake people. Like the old welfare queens. “Nobody wants to work for you” is more accurate. Employers and the boot strap crowd have competition now. They need to compete for customers and employees. Nobody is entitled to a work force.
  10. Got this from one of my space groups.
  11. I always loved the line “he met a girl out there with a tattoo too” The chronology is funny because I swore that was out when I was in high school. But released in the summer I graduated. I think it’s time to do a list.
  12. I believe I brought this up on the old site but in the peak of the pandemic I decided to listen to albums rather than curated playlists and this was one of my first ones. I forgot so much of those songs. I don’t know if I was prompted to do that from discussions here or I did if on my own.
  13. I’m not Irish. I’m Ire-ish.
  14. I can only go by what I see on social media from other people’s threads. There is a contingent of trump supporters who think the GOP, even DeSantis, are globalists and they are not supporting them. These are the conspiracy theorists.
  15. Trumps star has worn off. He won’t be the nominee. Networks will stop covering his speeches. He’s old news. His movement is still a thing but the impact is still up in the air. He drew non GOP voters into the fold. Not sure enough of them go back.
  16. And it could have just been two dudes meeting up to hang out. I have 6 former bosses in my career and could easily meet them on Tuesday for a brunch. It wouldn’t be weird.
  17. Wasn’t Hinch spotted having dinner with Correa during that off season ? I recall a bunch of speculation.
  18. He fits right in
  19. Isn’t that what a luxury tax does?
  20. Clearance is granted just by appointment is it? Nobody but Biden can overrule like he did with his kids. Isn’t that correct?
  21. I thought the Star is Born reboot with her and Cooper was great. I didn’t expect to like it but it sucked me in.
  22. I’ve learned that the Stones to many are more important than the Beatles. The Beatles were so tight and proficient that to young kids it felt unattainable. Then the stones come along with their sloppiness and showed the kids you don’t have to be as good as the Beatles. That’s the sentiment I’ve heard Steven Van Zandt express.
  23. I’ve always viewed them as someone who knows their place. They don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s all about fun. You do you. Contrast with someone like Whitesnake and David Coverdale who thinks he’s doing something important and credible. I never really cared for Pearl Jam.
  24. Not doing something can be considered doing something. A contract not taken today opens the door for one to be taken later on. I’m not interested in a Fernando Vina situation where they sugarcoat things.
  25. where do you get the idea MLB has a parity problem and the other leagues don’t? Since the year 2000, of 23 NBA titles 17 of them have gone to 4 franchises. They have a cap. We are told by owner apologists that mlb needs a cap. 15 difference MLB franchises have won a title in that same timeframe.
