  1. That reflects the changes over time as leagues have their own programming now. In the past writers and the media would brag that the teams needed them to sell tickets and promote the brand. Now... nobody buys papers. Everything is online. You have MLB Network and deals with ESPN and Fox and Turner. The players aren't hanging around with the writers like they used to. For one they don't live in the same areas like before. They most likely don't drink. They are busy working out and staying healthy. There's nothing really the papers offer us as fans anymore.
  2. The response to this non trade has been remarkable and reveals the worst about instant news and discussion points. Fans were ready to talk about the trade, it didn't happen, now they are pissed because they couldn't talk about it.
  3. Get ready for the drumbeat of “Obama judges” and “Biden’s DOJ”
  4. Tiger twitter knows everything
  5. The more I think about that Henning tweeet I believe it. That’s his way of backtracking his initial criticism once he got more info. I do believe Harris had an agreement from Eduardo then he reneged. Harris won’t admit that because he won’t publicly bash his player so his comments are guarded.
  6. Henning does Henning and suggests that Eduardo agreed to the dodgers deal initially then backed out. Can’t tell if that’s his opinion or a sourced allegation. All the reasons people give for having to trade him are considerations team have to make in receiving him and what that price will be.
  7. These geniuses on twitter are something else. As if they were on the calls and know the offers and parameters….
  8. No. It’s up to the team to see thru the hype. They should be just as knowledgeable as the other guy.
  9. I’m not sure I can handle a Lee on the Tigers. I keep thinking of our Lee.
  10. We've discussed him here too
  11. I was on vacation up north at Michigan Adventure and drained my battery following along. I remember seeing video of Dombrowski in the tunnel to the dugout trying to get their attention to get him off the field. Once the game starts only field personnel are allowed in the dugout. He couldn't go past a certain point. Also.... Suarez at SS... hurts.
  12. I think Heyman is a shill for players and agents. They use him and he plays along.
  13. I worry about turnout. If there's high turnout, then Trump will lose. If there's low turnout then he could win if his supporters are still passionate. But I question that too. Plus I don't overlook the covid death numbers. His margins were so slim that it wouldn't take much. I guess it will come down to AZ, GA,WI, and to a lesser extent PA and NC. Also don't overlook abortion. It's still a hot topic. If Trump isn't the nominee then I think it will be someone like a Kemp or Youngkin who will come in at the last minute. I also have it in my head that Christie could get it. I know that's crazy considering where he is in the polls but I also remember McCain being pretty low in 2008, but that was an entirely different electorate.
  14. His employees will be found guilty of something and he'll cut them out so fast. Nobody except Ivanka is safe and there's only one reason for that. The man still has hope.
  15. and the Marlins gave him some rum this past weekend. I thought he was sober. They made a big fuss in 2011 about celebrating with NA champagne.
  16. because they listen to Scott Baio and Hercules and James Woods and Kirk Cameron and Ricky Schroeder so it stands to reason in their mind that D list celebrities matter in terms of public policy.
  17. It's my 81 year old Uncle's facebook feed!
  18. My son shared a peeve with me last night... He's 22. He hates when people say things like "They could never make Blazing Saddles today". I guess those people have never watched South Park.

    MAP PR0N!

Not the same Eid but my city has made Eid Al-Fitr a holiday so all government offices are closed. Believe to be the only municipality in the country to do that. This is the breaking of the Ramadan fast celebration.
  20. I don’t think the local papers have much legitimacy anymore. Anyone invested enough to download a podcast is already searching around the internet for information. The age of gatekeepers and inside scoops by sportswriters is over. The daily beat guys are just stenographers. They aren’t having beers at the Lindell AC digging deep for background info. The game has changed so much. The league and teams have their own media to use as marketing. They don’t need the papers. The players are walking corporations so they aren’t going to say anything eventful. The writers are no smarter than many people here. I read an article recently where someone was being presented as an expert in sports business. They were discussing the Bally deal and whether RSN’s are still a thing we might see. The problem is this expert once argued with me that there was no way Tom Gores would ever move the Pistons from the Palace since it was paid for and most of their ticket holders live in Oakland County. We saw what happened there didn’t we? So beware of self appointed know it alls.
  21. Anybody can have a podcast. It’s the modern ham radio broadcast. Just need equipment.
  22. it makes me want to get a budweiser flag for my car. I'm happy for those idiots to not like me. I wish they would move out of my state.
  23. It sounds simplistic but the price is whatever the teams doing the trade say the price is. You only have 30 data points (each MLB team) to go off and just because X netted Y in 2018 doesn't mean X will net Y in 2023. It's whatever team A and team B can agree to. They are the only ones who determine what the market is. The needs and status of each team in a trade are unique. A team with what they think is a surplus of SP in the minors might be more wiling to trade their top prospect SP than a team without the surplus, even though those two prospects might be evenly rated by the "experts". I don't believe Harris will make a trade just to make a trade. This isn't 2017 where they need to get assets for the future. He'd be fine going into 2024 with Lorenzen and Rodriguez on the roster. In 2017 they knew it was over so they were having the fire sale. He will make a trade if it puts the team in a better position in 2024 and 2025.
  24. His voice is worse than RFK JR
  25. This was still a season where I still didn't care so much what the record was. I cared about the individual progress of certain players and whether we could see Harris and his team find a few guys. I'm not interested in a team backing into the playoffs in a weak division with a near .500 record. The games this year have more often than not been competitive. I actually want to go to the games.
