Boulder area. A good friend lives there and loves it. From people I know who live there even though it can snow in October or June, it is always sunny and it melts fast. And it can be 75 in the winter sometimes. They say the seasonal changes are so much better than the midwest and east because of the sunshine. Mentally it makes a huge difference.

Does it contain dick pics? That’s the criteria I think.

I saw a study that said conservatively, the vaccines kept 18.5M out of the hospital, saved 3.2 million lives, and $1T in medical costs.

There is a risk in getting it too early. I got mine in late Aug/early Sept, not sure when. My friend suggests November. She thinks whatever help I am getting from it could wear off in February. Then again given how they derive the vaccine nothing is guaranteed. But every bit helps. Would rather be sick than "wanting to die" sick and would rather be "wanting to die" sick than "you are going into the hospital" sick. If getting the shot prevents that give it to me. I think that's a big piece of info the "I got the shot but got the flu" anyway crowd misses. It could have been worse. The flu can be deadly.

I just remembered I started getting the flu shot regularly when my company would have flu shot clinics. You could sign up online for a specific time slot, down to the 10 min intervals. Go downstairs, get jabbed, then carry on. Very very hassle free. Even during covid they would set up a clinic. So between that and my PCP I was covered. But in my 20s and 30s it was hit or miss. Outside of a sinus infection that I finally broke down and went to the doctor for antibiotics, I can't recall any incident of feeling sick, other than a cold that was annoying for about week here or there. A few weeks ago there was something going around and I was congested. No pains, no sore throat, felt fine, just had to constantly blow my nose. As long as I moved around I was clear. Maybe I should have taken a covid test but given no other symptoms I passed. I don't go anywhere and none of my family members were showing the same symptoms. That was the only time during this pandemic I had anything where probably I should have tested. (I think the tests we have our expired anyway).

I think it was when they had one of those "Wives doing things for charity" things that they showed Nick's mom. I thought "Man, she's cute for an older broad" then it hit me.... Nick was born in 1992. Nick could be my son, technically. I was 18/19, it could happen. I have friends with kids that age. Nick's mom is my generation. You are old too dumb ass.

I never went out of my way to get my flu shot but when I went in for my physical in august I would get it if they had it. After talking with a pediatrician friend in 2018 I realized how bad it could be for kids so I made a point to get it. I’ll get a COVID booster every chance I get. I never qualified for the 4th but my doctor offered it in august, but the bivalent was coming out soon so I got that.

As a Kennedy assassination buff the talk by David Whelan is not unlike what we heard Robert Oswald say at the time.

Hospital figures provide the answer as to whether people should have gotten the vaccine. Before they were widely distributed the ICU’s were full of covid patients. Now they are not. Barely a blip on the radar. The impact on our hospitals is the single data point you need. It answers the questions. It’s night and day better today than 2 years ago. By a mile. remember it wasn’t just COVID patients dying because of over crowding and it’s not just COVID deaths being prevented that matter. It was stroke and heart attack patients that couldn’t get the kind of care dying that made it worse. Today they get the treatment they need. it’s at the point now where it’s very rare my wife has a patient in the icu because of covid.

The Guardians movies have awesome soundtracks. It directly ties in with the Peter Quill character. He was abducted from earth as a child in the mid 80a and he had his Walkman with him along with awesome mix tapes that his mom gave him. His whole frame of reference is culture at that time. He always talked about how awesome Kevin Bacon was because of footloose. So for Christmas his alien friends abduct Bacon as a present thinking it will cheer him up. Hilarity ensues. It’s a cute 45 minutes.

I get it. And if we did that for games played on national holidays I'd be ok with it. But I think having a moment of silence every game for some named victims of the day would make it lose its significance. It's a tragic world and not hard to think of some reason to have one every day but you can't do that.

I think of the Smoltz/Alexander trade. Did the Tigers, or even Atlanta, think or have any thought that he would be a HOFer? No way. You can't predict that. But I still think that's a trade you make if you are the Tigers.

Worth pointing out that even if Joe does well that's no bearing to me on Harris or his staff. The goal isn't to "win" trades as a comparison but to make your team better, however you want to measure that.

and for national events like the Super Bowl or World Series, the anthem is a chance to promote an artist and record label. That's why they televise it then but not during regular season games. I mean... if it's about patriotism then they would show it on TV right? No. Bally (Sinclair, right wingers) need their ad dollars. To their credit Canada does show it which I like because they have a great anthem. But some complain now that it's woke. Look it up.

Why do we play the NA before sporting events but not other forms of entertainment? I get it being played in international competitions, country vs country, etc. In that regard it can be seen as a theme song. But pro sports is a billion dollar commercial enterprise making a lot of people very rich... but hey, maybe that's what America's about. We don't play it before concerts or plays or movies. Why sports but not those? And spare me the "veteran of the game" things because that's not about saluting veterans. It's about the opportunity for Chevy or whoever to get a few minutes of commercial time. It's one of those things that for most people has always been done so it makes sense until you stop to think about it.

I think that's what prompted the discussion originally.

Sinema is not going to switch parties. She wants to keep her committee assignments. From what I've read this is simply about trying to not lose a D primary in '24. Even if she doesn't caucus it's 50-49 D's. No practical change to what we expected in the senate.

well she kneeled or something... or she's a black lesbian. what more do you need to know?

I remember very shortly before they were fired, like maybe even the day before, they both hosted the nightly sports show on WJR. There was a vacation or something so they had guest hosts that week. I listened to it while delivering pizzas. They were both having fun with it and did a fine job. Then either the next day or few days after, they were fired. WJR made a big stink about how Beckman was a former usher or whatever as a kid and it was a dream come true, blah blah blah. Lary Sorensen was his broadcast partner. They were not given a chance here.
