  1. I forgot his name too. In 2016 the episode before the election had the famous Trump voter black jeopardy sketch. Tom Hanks played Doug. I got the same vibes.
  2. The place on van born and Pelham?
  3. What happened at Cobo was the most disgraceful thing to happen jn the city since the riots. A bunch of white people demanding they stop counting the votes of black Detroiters. My wife and I lost a friend over that. He was down there and we both flat out told him we are done with him. The police should have tear gassed those people out on to Jefferson and and March them up Woodward to Highland Park or up Gratiot a few miles. Then as Marcellus Wallace said…. They can get mideivel on them. I’m half joking.

  5. Beat me to it.
  6. In a mid 90s stand up special Dana Carvey did a bit about framing OJ Simpson.
  7. I don’t think it was staged. Never bought into it. Too many agencies and people would have to be involved for it to work. That kind of thing just isn’t possible in reality. I don’t believe in JFK conspiracies either. Too many things outside the control of planners had to fall into place. I could spend hours explaining why. It’s easy to look back at an event and speculate but that assumes all the events happening naturally that led up to it.
  8. In Halberstam’s book The Fifties, he talks about this. Depression. Drug use separation from their families as with suburban expansion that often meant their parents were back “in the city”. It wasn’t leave it to beaver or Ozzie and Harriet. (He uses the real Nelson family as a nice rebuttal to that alleged utopia. Ozzie was a real prick).
  9. I just read the USSS released another report yesterday. The news article cited the lack of farm equipment that was supposed to block the line of site from those buildings. Pre planning said they would be there. Also failures in meetings before hand with multiple agencies present. They were not well attended. And the heat of the day required many attendees be given medical treatment and that diverted the efforts of law enforcement. That’s on top of what we already have heard.
  10. Exactly… like I never knew that Dave Winfield was a superb pitcher in college, leading his team thru the college World Series. He could have pitched and hit but didn’t want to play in the minors so he stuck with hitting. This was in a section about Ohtani and he didn’t claim he would have been as good of a pitcher as he was but still… and I didn’t realize that Sid Bream’s walk off was the only come from behind walk off that came at the “last” possible moment of a series. Meaning if he makes an out then it’s over and the other team wins the series. All the other walk offs we know came with the score tied or not in a game 7. He sprinkles anecdotes in like that when discussing other things. Any baseball fan should read his books. You WILL learn something. I promise.

  12. I voted for all D on my ballot except for Rashida. For that one I went Green Party. Not voting for a Republican for a very long except for extreme circumstances. In uncontested races I left it blank. Other races for judges I left blank too.
  13. Worth noting it will be the new congress certifying.
  14. I wouldn’t make up you buy me an IPA there, too expensive. We can indulge in a $5 MGD. I’ve been getting those lately at games. Satisfied my thirst and saves me about $8.
  15. and frankly interest rates were too low. I'm not an expert, don't pretend to be, so correct me all you want, but when rates are low people buy too much, more than they need. Interest rates are not a refleciton of the economy. They should be just high enough to make you think twice on doing something but not too high to make a necessity prohibitive. 4-6% is fair I think. The near zero rates we saw created a mirage and set expectations out of whack on what should be normal.
  16. Much much better in my opinion.
  17. I'm finally playing with the 270 to win map... and I have a hard time seeing a reasonable path for Trump. You start with 2020 as a baseline. 7 states had a margin under 3%, 6 won by Biden. We all know what states they were. Given how Georgia has gone lately, it's hard for me to say that will flip. It will be close. Same with Michigan. I'm bullish on PA given the Puerto Rico comments. If Harris keeps those 3, she can lose the other 3 and let him keep NC. She still has 276. If she loses GA, then she needs WI or AZ. Not out of the realm of possibility. The NC visits by Trump are interesting because if she wins that then that takes care of needing WI or AZ in that scenario.
  18. Speaking of Scully... I'm pick the off season to start reading basball books. This year I had Joe Posnanski's book "Why we love baseball" on standby. His books are so much more than just a list of what happened. When he discusses Koufax's 4th no hitter he focuses on Scully's PBP of the 9th, verbatim. It's pure poetry. I'll share some screenshots later from my kindle.
  19. Yep. Foodies will appreciate it. But give me a good old fashioned Bob Evans breakfast anytime. Sorry to everyone else for the diversion to talk about things local but if you like bagels go to Brazen Bagels. They are in the diner at Village Ford, inside the Parts and Service building. They started out at the hamburger place that opened near us in the old bar. They are great people, a young couple. I go every Friday morning. HOwever they are only open from 7:30 to just after lunch time. If you get there before 8 you have to call them to open the door as there's always a line of people to get into Village's service dept.
  20. It was this afternoon.... Monroe was closed. Not sure if he's done yet. We go to Westborn all the time.... was sad to hear the beer guy passed away. He used to be at Merchant's. My wife goes every Sunday and picks out a mixture of things and he helped her do that.
  21. Speaking of Thriller, I learned that Vincent Price was given the option of royalties or a flat fee of $20K for his voice over work. He took the flat fee.
  22. The restaurant Trump is going to in Dearborn is The Great Commoner. More of a breakfast and lunch outfit, they close at 9. No alcohol, many places here don't serve it because some devout Muslims can't even be at a place that sells it so they don't bother. It's quality food for sure, but also expensive, not worth it to me.... but we found out recently the owner makes homophobic comments so we don't plan on going back. For some people Gaza can be overlooked if they share hate of other people.
  23. He will be about a mile from me in about an hour.... It's a restaurant owned by a Lebanese guy.
  24. There's nostalgia for sure but the last few years when he started working playoff games on MLB Network I wasn't a fan. He lived too much in the past.... he came across as a broadcaster who hasn't done a game in 30 years and assumed his audience hasn't watched a game in 30 years. He'd say things like "the game is a lot more global now" and once made a reference to Albert Belle. He kind of reminded me of Mitch Albom... someone who pops in every once in a while in a sport but doesn't have the recent knowledge that a regular sports writer would. A Lions column written today referencing Scott Mitchell for example.
  25. Totally. Despite the anti trump fever in 2020 there were still quite a bit of people who had the “this is the best we can do?” that no longer think that. Niki Haley was right during the primary when she said whichever side replaced their old guy would win. Despite being on the ticket as VP I think Harris is going to pull in black and female voters that didn’t vote previously for various reasons. That’s just a gut feeling.
