  1. wow - This doesn't say what state - I thought In MI you had to be at least a BS RN to qualify to become a NP - And the only PA I know is a physiology PHD. Maybe not anymore? Guess I may be assuming to much....
  2. this is the key. Even the ancient Greeks knew that the most dangerous guy is the one that doesn't know what he doesn't know, and AI has no clue what it doesn't know. OK, I'm a Chem - I dabble in electronics and mechanical, and I could have generated that drawing for you, but I damn well know I don't know the ASME codes so that is the first place I know I have to go. OK, so you train you next model on engineering codes....But you are always going to be one step behind the curve aren't you? I'll grant that doesn't mean you might not at some point be better than the average joe with a BS from State U, but how does the user ever know enough about the model (which is the ultimate black box) to have a level of confidence in it for things that are critical? To me that remains the missing link. Now I can believe profit motive may drive practice to accepting those outcomes without ever answering that question, but that's not a design world I want to live in - but since we are both old either way we probably won't have to!
  3. I think there is something more than we see between Hinch and Mize. I'd be at a loss to see why Flaherty could be considered more 'trusty' than Mize in this universe, but Hinch has always seemed to have had a lot of reservations about Casey. I guess maybe if you think you need the shutout, Flaherty is maybe the pick as when he is 'on' he can be more dominant than Casey, but he's also more likely to blow up. If it were regular season I don't think you could reasonably argue that on average you are likely to get a better game from Flaherty but like I said, if you are going for broke I maybe see the choice.
  4. I think that is/was right. But then again, I don't know if he's even so much aggressive as that he understands how high the single play success rate is for the team he has on the field. The narrative is in large part about 4th down, but when you have Penei Sewell, two great backs and a QB that probably completes at an +80 clip in the short game, 4th and short is not as risky as conventional football wisdom would have it. It's less aggression than knowing what you have and a good understanding of the probabilities. And I wouldn't underestimate Goff's role. He has at least as much confidence and aggression as his coach.
  5. I suppose if he got whacked in the spine there could be some nerve irritation and that's harder to get read on than muscle or joint issues. Parker's Meadows arm problem being a good example - they had no idea when it was going to clear up and there wasn't a lot they could do for it in the meanwhile.
  6. I'm going to guess the big difference in terms of nuts and bolts coaching, is that from all we have heard, and what we see on the field, Campbell is a guy that hammers all the little details harder than the average coach. That leads to more precise execution, (and fewer flags) and that maximizes the value of your talent. At least at the point where Schwartz was when he was here he was not at Campbell's level in that area.
  7. Schwartz's Lions teams were undisciplined. That could. be who you are drafting to a certain extant also, but it's usually just poor coaching.
  8. this is where I am. I think right now AI is being used for a lot things where the marginal value over the alternative may actually be pretty small - for instance a google AI result vs a simple search. Half the time you end up drilling down into the AI provided links anyway. So the question then is whether the *cost* in power and infrastructure is actually worth the candle for a lot of the places where the hype today says AI is the future. So then the question is whether when the big operators doing AI as a loss leader today need to monetize it, is the revenue going to be there. Beats me but I've seen a lot of good technologies that do settle in to good use first be heavily oversold at the front end of their adoption curve.
  9. A good friend who is retired command rank said exactly this. That the response of bunch of decorated war vets being lectured by an ex-weekend warrior Major would be a pretty universal FU.
  10. the 1%'ers have so much cash they don't know what to do with every shiny object gets chased.
  11. they would have to come up with some better discriminator though - two baseball stadia within 60 miles with the same name shouldn't happen.
  12. Another interesting question is how the Tigers would feel if 5/3 wants to keep the rights but the Tigers aren't thrilled about COPA being re-labeled like a bunch of minor league parks. I suppose if the check is big enough.....
  13. so a guy that should be repudiated is repudiated. News at 11?
  14. I wonder if this will be the end the marketing fallacy that Comerica has a 100yr legacy in Detroit when all they did was buy their way in.
  15. Parker needs to have 500 more AB next season just like that one. He battled there as well as I have seen him all year.
  16. yup - they need to find the sweet spot between working a pitcher - which ended up failing tonight anyway as after getting him to 50 in two, they went down the next two in 18 total, and being too aggressive. And to me that means being more aggressive on the 1st pitch - don't allow guys to steal strikes, THEN get more conservative. You can still work pitchers and you won't always be in the hole. What has to be kept in mind is that absolute best way to work a pitch count is to get on base and make him face another hitter.
  17. Really tired of watching Tiger hitters take FBs for strikes
  18. The strike box was so lightly shaded I couldn't see it 90% of the time. If the guys in the both got the same feed they weren't seeing it either.
  19. and it was the classic pitcher's dilemma: go with my best stuff or try to pitch to the hitter's weakness. The guys in the booth didn't seem to be picking up on it very clearly, but we all know Carp feasts on high fastballs. But Kirby decided to go with his best stuff (If I'm going to get beat, they are going to beat my best pitch"). I thought the Tigers got lucky in the same regard with Raleigh. As per his statcast maps, like most power hitters, you pitch him away as RH batter. But his data says he is more vulnerable inside as LHB, the Tigers mostly pitched him away anyway.
  20. yeah - this has always amused me. Why wouldn't a good religious person not believe God loves all the players enough not to take any rooting interest in who wins? It's just kindergarten level theology, but hey, if it gets them through their ABs...... I played softball on Chruch leagues for years and the fact that no-one could claim God was more on their side was always good.
  21. LOL -- I think both you and Buddha read a bit more into it than I actually meant. My only point was just the simple one that Harbaugh's history meant no matter what, his coaching chops weren't going to be seriously questioned - the underlying assumption with JH being he could/would turn it around remained pretty strong even after the disaster of 2020. I just took him a lot longer to find the QB he needed than anyone hoped. and just to clarify - and as Buddha would tell you, I never liked Harbaugh - but it wasn't because I didn't think he could coach, I just always thought he was bad news for UM in general. The constant low class running at the mouth in the early years, the drama with the NCAA in the later ones. Plus, for a guy with deep UM roots, he ended up not really looking out for the program's interests - he brought a big win but also ran down the program on the way out the door. So to go to those details I guess Franklin is different guy from that perspective also.
  22. At first Skubal only threw a 4 seamer - beginning his 2nd year and then increasing his 3rd, he added a 2 seamer/sinker - so he has two fastballs - if the life on the 4 seamers isn't the greatest, the batter is still going to see FBs going different directions because he can throw both kinds. Melton is about where Skubal was in his 2nd year - he has a sinker but doesn't throw it much yet so that same added confusion might work for him. It reminds me what a freak Verlander was. He only threw(throws) a 4 seamer but it has so much spin guys couldn't barrel up it even when he didn't throw it hard. And he would vary his FB velo by almost as much as the difference between Skubal's FB and Change, before he even threw an actual secondary pitch.
  23. Ironic that that is something the Lions are good at.
  24. Well, certainly not Mexican anyway....
  25. It was Melton that surprised me. I just hadn't seen any game where he pitched well. Long ball is probably going to be the continuing problem for him though. The FB has plenty of mustard but he needs to find a way to give it a little more life.
