I agree he's not been sharp. But you have to think about what's been on the ice with him since he got here. As the Wings have raised the quality of Dmen on the team, Hronek has gone from being the best of bad lot down to being among the also-rans. So I would guess some of it is his quality of play lagging but maybe some of the appearance is just the change in who he compares to out there.

two things I would want to see in a big guy short of being a bruiser (and the game has changed - and guys don't want to get concussed anymore.....) would be good use of his reach - and Rasmussen can be an effect forechecker on occasion, but the second is being able to use your size to protect the puck and be a strong possession player. I don't think he shows very much there.

'viable' or 'able to 'live' on it's own is one of those interesting terms that doesn't bear too much thought. It just a matter of time-scales I suppose. The average 5 yr old on it's own would be dead in few days of dehydration if left in most places on the planet. The same would probably be true of the average full grown adult, only on a slightly longer time scale (they might find water but would probably still starve pretty quickly. We are none-of-us all that 'viable'. 🤔

I don't think he is going anywhere regardless of the score in their last two games. I think after last season they were willing to see him go, but IMO the 10 win season has changed that.

People just don't get the difference in what OSU football means to OSU vs what UM football means to UM. I'm working with a GSI who graduated from OSU last year. She was telling her freshman UM students about how during OHIO state week legions of OSU students fan out across town to duct tape out the M's on all the signs they can find. Regardless of whether you think it's good or bad, it's just fact that that kind of energy does doesn't exist at Michigan. I was here from the the first big win in '69 and even then it was never that intense. Ohio State has put themselves where they are because it's important to them - it's another reflection of the same set of circumstances that make Ohio HS football the best recruiting in the midwest. And as Buddha says, the structure of the playoff has only stabilized the differential between playoff contenders and everyone else.

But Rassmussen might not even be as bad as he looks. There is a lot of synergy on a hockey team when the players are good enough, but that works in the reverse direction too, sometimes decent players end up playing down to the level of the their line-mates and/or because they have to spend too much energy trying to cover on defense - heck look at Larkin last season. That said, no doubt Rasmussen needs to do more to make his presence on the ice noticeable.

I think a big part of the problem is just the innumeracy of the society. So back in the stone age, you stand at the water cooler and the office goof ball comes up with an off the wall take, eyes roll and everyone goes back to work not caring a whit about it. Faced with being able see a one in 10, or even one in 5, ratio is enough for anyone in person to consign what what said to irrelevance. But you have maybe 100 million twits in the US alone and then on top of that you have Romad's Russian and Chinese bot farms pumping the noise and yet everyone still get bent if the goof ball now has a keyboard and elicits the response of 0.1% or 0.01% or some other tiny fraction of what is now a global water cooler. The basic inability to put how tiny the scale of things on twitter really is to the rest of real life seems to confound Americans, and unfortunately especially the MSM who just can't look away.

I think John McWhorter often argues some distance past where the strength of his arguments are, but I like his take that the telling point when a movement/culture/whatever is lost is when its rhetorical mindset crosses over into refusing to talk about real things. I can put 1492 marbles in a jar. If I am going to continue functioning in the real world, I need to able to process that reality. The idea that words in and of themselves are somehow 'guilty by association' is one we'd be better off without.

But here is an interesting thing I hadn't noticed: Joe's OPS at home against 104 batters was 518, on the road against 106 batters it was 1011! IIRC correctly, the 1st time they switched to red on the road was early in the TV era when not many (any?) home games were televised, so teams decided to wear their colorful uni's on the road for TV. Either way, the Wings have the advantage that both the home and road uni's are classic.

this is about 2 1/2 days of US supply, so its more for show than because it will actually affect any underlying supply condition. Not that 'for show' can't still affect that market.
