  1. That would be tough to attain. I was able to get hard copies of the 1995-2000 Tigers Media guides on the cheap several years ago, which was my source for a lot of things. Archived baseball coverage of that era is very lacking, and the BR database is spotty (plus the rules changes make it tough to ID non-tenders before the 1997 CBA).
  2. Apropos of nothing, I compiled the list of Tigers non-tenders dating back to 1990. Data pre-1995 is spotty. Year Player 2022 Jeimer Candelario 2022 Harold Castro 2022 Willi Castro 2022 Brendon Davis 2022 Miguel Diaz 2022 Kyle Funkhouser 2022 Michael Papierski 2021 Matthew Boyd 2021 Grayson Greiner 2018 Alex Wilson 2018 James McCann 2017 Bruce Rondon 2015 Neftali Feliz 2015 Al Alburquerque 2012 Daniel Schlereth 2011 Will Rhymes 2010 Zach Miner 2008 Aquilino Lopez 2007 Chad Durbin 2006 Alexis Gomez 2004 Eric Munson 2003 Ben Petrick 2003 Andy Van Hekken 2002 Robert Fick 2002 Julio Santana 2001 Deivi Cruz 1997 Bob Hamelin 1997 Fernando Hernandez 1994 Junior Felix 1994 Gene Harris 1994 Mike Gardiner 1994 Chad Kreuter 1993 Bob MacDonald 1993 Gary Thurman 1992 Mark Carreon 1991 Andy Allanson 1991 Johnny Paredes 1990 Lance McCullers
  3. There's a lot of penciling in Colt Keith for a lineup spot after a good Arizona Fall League and a Lynn Henning puff piece.
  4. They kinda sorta buried the lede there. He is married into the Paul family. I am sure that is no coincidence with Rand's suspicious pro-Russia blathering the last several years.
  5. Welker suffers from former Rockies hitting prospectitis. That is to say a lot of people overrate those types, perhaps because there's some fantasy twist to prospect analysis. He also had a PED suspension this year. His good seasons are all in massive hitter's parks/leagues. To me, Vosler is the more intriguing of their non-tendered 3B.
  6. How many future Tigers here?
  7. Of the five claims since Harris took the reigns, two have hit free agency and one more has already cleared waivers. That's fine. To me, the whole point of a waiver claim is to try to pass them through later and build depth.
  8. Welp, there's y'all's purge.
  9. To me, it's a call on whether or not they think whatever plagued him this year was irreversible. I'd lean toward keeping him.
  10. Cost can force some players into the lineup when they don't deserve to be. We are living this big time with Miguel Cabrera in the final years of his deal. I don't think any of the Tigers arb guys are in this boat.
  11. Boebert won. May this be a lesson not to trust partisan wishcasters on Twitter pretending to parse the numbers.
  12. He already signed in Japan.
  13. Both Castros have options. Reminder, my sheet always has option data updated. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jRnDAcv86yGYl1Tq6fdXD1VoGr2Ls5PiRBNEFBXHL3Y/edit#gid=0
  14. Jeb Bush in 2016. Rick Perry 2012. Howard Dean 2004
  15. I figure I will post here, but a good substack/podcast from a really good Florida Investigative Journalist who covers some of the grift and corruption in the state government. I'm sharing because the notion that DeSantis is somehow more moderate than Trump or even some kind of libertarian is false. And here's some reciepts. https://jasongarcia.substack.com/ One article on the ticking time bomb that is the Florida Home Insurance market teetering on the brink. That, or legal fallout from the Martha's Vineyard Stunt are the most likely downfalls. https://jasongarcia.substack.com/p/ron-desantis-could-have-made-lawmakers
  16. Willi Castro is younger than Kody Clemens.
  17. For what it is worth, there are restrictions on DFA's. You can't just do it to get below 40 unless there is some reason or you are at a certain time. Yesterday was not such a time, but they can lop a few more off on non-tender day Friday without backfilling.
  18. Not necessarily, as a lot of the stronger players from last year likely migrated to the major league roster. Teams still are keeping their strongest 40; I doubt there's a significant bump in available talent. If anything, it just made the roster crunch a bit harder for some teams; see the fire sale the Rays had today.
  19. Maybe they pull a Dave Littlefield and forget.
  20. I think it was Skubal. It is because he looks like Todd The Painter from Wedding Crashers.
  21. Ummm... look at all the guys taking up 40 man spots. There are 10+ less worthy than Willi and Alexander, thus their roster decision is all about surplus value relative to their likely salary through the arbitration process.
  22. Todd is his nickname, and is one of my favorite of all time.
  23. Alexander was pitching through injury much of this year and his stuff plays up in the pen. His arb salary doesn't project to be significantly more than the minimum. There are a lot of guys who are a lot more worthy of being dropped than "Todd."
  24. Tyler Alexander is still on the Tigers 40 man roster by the end of the month. There are lots of others who should be above him on the chopping block.
  25. I count six guys I think get added. Perez, Bergner, Gipson-Long, Meadows, Lipcius, Olson I wouldn't rule out a trade with a team that has a roster crunch. That is a good arbitrage opportunity. As for the chopping block? Miguel Diaz, Michael Papierski, Kyle Funkhouser, Jose Cisnero, Harold Castro, Sean Guenther, Brendon Davis, Kody Clemens, Zach Short, Andy Ibanez are all possibilities. And if you want to non-tender Jeimer, you can DFA him today and non-tender Friday.
