  1. Speaking to what Ed suggested earlier, isn't now kind of an ideal time to do it as opposed to waiting to October? Gives you a head start on a search, particularly if they are planning on going outside the org, might make it easier to get someone on board before free agency begins, etc.
  2. The deadline for the Tigers this time was pretty minimalist - it didn't get great grades, but they weren't necessarily franchise-breakers either. And particularly with trades involving higher profile players (ie. had someone like Skubal been on the table), it's likely Chris I would have to sign off on them regardless. It's possible he may not have if this had been in the works.
  3. Not sure much else we can infer from the letter, but regarding all the rumors about Skubal at the deadline, there's zero doubt in my mind that this was probably in the works before the deadline took place. Would Chris I have even signed off on a deal for Skubal?
  4. I know that many wished they would have done it before the draft / deadline, but I would imagine a move like this takes time to execute. Particularly if there are subordinates involved and moving people around to handle responsibilities on an interim basis.
  5. Obviously the camera wasn't focused on him much, but the few times the camera caught him, you really didn't see him smile.... never looked comfortable during that ceremony.
  6. Mine as well.
  7. That first month of AA was hard, but he appears to have more or less figured it out. He may warrant a bump ump to Toledo soon one would think.
  8. I'm in this boat as well. He's overall been a better player in Toledo than in Detroit, but if you look at the game logs, it's absolute roller coaster.... he had a three game stretch in Iowa last week where he went 5/11, 2BB, 2K, then followed up by a game where he went 0-5 with 3K, hits a homer the next game, then 3 games where he's 0-10. But like you suggest, even when he's had some success in Toledo, where he's been consistent has been with K's.... there's too many of them. Even with possible mechanical adjustments that might be going on, we've seen enough ABs to be a bit concerned IMO
  9. Short or Davis one would think.... Davis was pulled from the game in Toledo yesterday early, but idk if that is injury related or something else.
  10. Another special election last night, this time in Minnesota 1 (ie. Rochester, Mankato, Winona) Rs still extremely likely to win the House, but recent results combined with polling in some of these races seem to point to a much different environment than in Nov 2021.
  11. Calling all "we're really concerned about Supreme Court Justice safety" folks
  12. They did it... they finally did it
  13. Thinking that Singuel might be out of singles...
  14. Pitching wise they've held up about as well as they can under the circumstances. Bullpen has performed well and they have gotten some reasonably good performances out of guys who needed to make steps coming into the year (Lange, Jimenez, Foley) as well as guys who weren't even on the radar going into camp (Vest). And regardless of how quality one thinks a lot of the young starting pitching in the minors can potentially become (guys like Brieske, Faedo, Hill or hopefully Wentz when he gets some starts), there's been enough of it to keep the wheels from flying completely off the cart for the most part. Where Al deserves criticism is on the position player side.... obviously no one could have foreseen Candy, Schoop, Grossman (he deserves mention) falling into obliviion or Meadows injury, but by this point in the rebuild, one clearly would expect that they would have more options at the upper tier of their system, particularly in AAA, that could really push for playing time at the bigs in a pinch. And that hasn't happened. There's Carpenter who, despite his meteoric rise, still lhas reason for skepticism and Kreidler, who hasn't played much this year because of a fractured hand. Put another way, if the Tigers system had the kind of talent at the upper ranks of the system that the St. Louis Cardinals have (among others), they would have had more options and flexibility to deal with the trio of players whose offense fell into oblivion and Meadows being incapacitated most of the year. But they do not. I've been watching 84 Lives for days (in multiple threads) talking about a lot of the prospects and I hear him and all, but even if one feels like their drafts have been better the past couple of years and that they have brought some guys in who have reasonable enough chances for success moving forward (such as Pacheco, Jung or Graham), these guys are still years away. Even a lot of the guys who have seen performances pick up, such as Wenceel Perez or Parker Meadows, are still in AA and all still seem to warrant skepticism. So aside from hoping that Al gets canned, we're kinda left living off lottery tickets for at least the next year and a half and hoping a couple of them pan out lol
  15. Another "accomplishment" to add to Al's resume.
  16. It's honestly one of the dumbest lines imaginable when you think about it. If any normal person stole classified documents from the government, no shit we'd be in a lot of trouble. What makes Donald Trump so fricken special?
  17. Wouldn't there have been a itemized warrant served when they showed up on premises? And what prevents Mar-a-Lago from releasing it, as opposed to DOJ or the judge or whoever?
  18. Yeah, so much "we're gonna be in a civil war" crap, which reads like deranged fantasies. Let's just put it this way: if one is out there advocating for or suggesting a "civil war", they are lunatics.
  19. The GOP responses tonight have been lame in part because they all sound a lot like declarations of what they would do regardless... I mean, I've always assumed Garland would face heat and that they'd launch specious investigations into Hunter Biden for no reason in particular if they win back the House. I guess they'll be double secret hard now?
  20. I remember Rush Balls ranting about Sandy Berger back in the day. I'm sure all the Dittoheads have abandoned their concern about classified documents by now though lol
