  1. Most picks never reach the majors. There's a huge list of 1st round picks who never made it, even ones who went #1 overall. And then there are lower picks who turn into All Stars. It's baseball.
  2. If people would take a look at baseball 1st round picks thru the years, they might start to understand how difficult predicting what a player will do by the time he's ready for MLB. Baseball drafts are a crapshoot, even early picks. Most drafted players never even make the majors. If they fired every GM who drafted a player who didn't make it, GM turnover would be huge.
  3. He was considered a 3rd baseman when we took him.
  4. Gotta admit, Flaherty has been a surprise. Canha is what he is, a 36 year old with a decent OBP. He would be an excellent fit on a team that's ready to win. But saying we wanted him so the young guys can study and learn from his approach? And them come out of the gate scoring one freaking run a week? Yeah, pure Tiger lip service. He plays for an affordable price, bottom line. But they will NEVER say that.
  5. When Mize went, I remember people saying it was him or Brady Singer. We can't go back using hindsight and finding 3rd and 4th round picks who are better in 2024. It isn't fair to the scouts who can't see 5 years into the future. Were there players you wanted them to take over Mize or Tork?
  6. I'm debating if I even want to keep paying for the Bally app all summer. Getting blown out early or losing late are both reasons to find something more constructive to do. This team really stinks and they didn't seem to make any positive moves this last off-season. Other teams have rebuilt and are contending in the same time period. And the Tigers are just spinning their wheels. How much longer are the fans going to show the patience they're calling for? And yes, this coming from a huge Lions fan...rebuilding since the late 1950's. 🤣🤣
  7. Lol...every team, scout and expert had Mize and Tork high on their board the years they came out. Drafting these guys wasn't a mistake, they were the cream of the crop. Baseball is really hard IRT predicting how good a player will be by the time they make the majors. Skubal was a 9th round pick and look at him, a legit Cy Young chance this season.
  8. We have a few holes. A platoon in one, maybe two, positions is OK. But 4 spots? I dislike these "versatile" guys who can play multiple positions. Yeah, we would get more for Skubal if he was a year and a half away from free agency but you lose the ability to negotiate with him before the trade deadline in '26. I can't even imagine how much he'll get if he stays healthy and stays so dominate. The guy is a freaking horse.
  9. EVs? What's that?
  10. #2 pick in 2019.
  11. He's hit at every level. Struggling his first couple of months was somewhat predictable. It really wouldn't surprise me if he finishes close to .300 by the end of the year.
  12. That been apparent all season. The entire team was slumping. I never liked the approach of working the count. If there's a good pitch to hit, hit the damn thing.
  13. He's under team control thru 2026. So no, if he does get moved, it will be at the trade deadline in '26. Arms like his don't come around very often. It would have to be a great package to get him before that, IMO.
  14. That's a pretty bold prediction. He hit 20 after the ASB last season, his best 3 months as a pro. It would be nice if he develops into a consistent threat at the plate. He may have been rushed to the majors, that has stunted many players thru the years.
  15. Meh...it happens. Sometimes decent pitchers don't make it out of the 1st inning...but, yeah, it sucks.
  16. He's not a position player who plays everyday. A player like Tork has a much shorter leash, or he should have. With his limited abilities, hitting one home run a month won't keep him in the old English D.
  17. With our offense, this game looks over. I hope Skubal shuts them out tomorrow afternoon.
  18. When he was drafted, some people said he had a ceiling as a #1 SP. There's nothing wrong with his ceiling being a #3 SP. If he is a #3, it means we have a very good staff. The 2024 Tigers weakness is our offense. Waiting on more kids so we can evaluate them. And yes, patience.
  19. I think Jobe is closer than that. If he can get and stay healthy, it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a September callup.
  20. What did he miss? A yeah and a half? Sometimes it takes awhile to come back from surgeries.
  21. They moved him to the OF this spring. https://sports.yahoo.com/detroit-tigers-move-prospect-wenceel-111106175.html
  22. I think we signed him when he was 16 years old? He only started playing the OF this spring
  23. Gotta hit his way out of it. Very common for a young hitter. What matters is how long his slump lasts. The better hitters limit the slump length.
  24. Edmonton winning so easily on the road is a shocker. Vancouver being totally outplayed going into the 3rd.
