  1. Maybe the Tigers have a feel good story here
  2. The stud playmakers on both sides of the ball are all in their 20s and most are signed for a few years. They'll be back and should have more chances. That said I'm in the dumps right now and will be for a day or two. Pistons and Wings are hot, and pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks.
  3. Been a Lions fan since 1971. Very solemn night. I live in Minneapolis and my friends here are rubbing it in
  4. Next year will be the 50th anniversary of Fidrych's magical season. Someone should make a motion picture about that ride.
  5. Tigers sign knuckleballer Kenny Serwa? Never heard of him. "Yoshi" pitch? https://www.mlb.com/news/tigers-sign-hard-throwing-knuckleballer-kenny-serwa
  6. The Dodgers overtook the damn Yankees on my list of pure hatred as well
  7. In 13 months the Dodgers added 4 front line starters via FA. Ohtani, Yamamoto, Snell and Sasaki. And they have Glasnow, May, likely Kershaw. They could possibly field 2 playoff teams.
  8. Didn't know either. Decent obp https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=boras-001sco
  9. Ron Cey......now he was a good dancer. He scored a 9.5 doing the penguin
  10. According to this article the Red Sox offered Bregman a 3-yr deal and he is holding out for a 5-yr deal. If that's true I don't see Harris going to 5. Maybe 3 or 4. I do have a gut feeling Det still has a big move coming up. Or maybe that's just the aftermath of a Greek omelet https://en.albat.com/thebigs/MLB-The-Contract-Alex-Bregman-Turned-Down-from-the-Red-Sox-and-His-Counteroffer-Revealed-20250115-0012.html
  11. Read a Sasaki article this am. Didn't realize he frequently tops 100 on the gun. I had heard about his devastating splitter. Given those pitching facts it's not a surprise that last year he missed time with shoulder inflammation. And in 2023 he missed time with an oblique injury. Sounds like TJ waiting to happen. Maybe the same is true for Jobe https://japantoday.com/category/sports/japanese-phenom-roki-sasaki's-mlb-deal-could-spur-chaos-in-latin-america.-here's-why
  12. That came up in my feed yesterday. Then another came up where it seems the Tigers are also being sued by some scouts. All scouts were laid off for a period during the pandemic and the Tigers did not apply for the federal program to reward employers for keeping staff on during covid 19. When it was cleared to bring people back, everyone rehired was under age 60. Several age 60+ scouts filed a discrimination suit. It's been delayed and still pending. It's interesting to hear this behind the scenes stuff. I'm only 59, maybe there's still time to find a job with the Tigers.
  13. When I was about 10 I was jumped and bit by a large dog on my paper route. Quit that day
  14. Had a paper route starting at age 8, 1974. Made $4.00 every 2 weeks. That was 40 packs of cards back then. My dad drove to find me on my route one day, brought me a pack of cards the day they first showed up at Prose 5 and dime. Opened the pack and Greg Landry was on top. Very good day
  15. Did Kmart still have blue light specials in '98?
  16. Tracy Jones had a lot of talent and speed but not the right knees. Reds also had Kal Daniel's around that time- he would have been a star were it not for his knees. Tracy spent some brief time with the Tigers toward the end of his brief career.
  17. Sad Sam Jones was rumored to be a great teammate
  18. When LAD signs Sasaki, they'll have added Ohtani, Yamamoto, Snell and Sasaki all via FA since December 2023. Adding 4 potential front end starters in 13 months. And they have Glasnow and should be returning Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin and perhaps Clayton Kershaw. And they have an elite bullpen. Better than the 1990s Braves?
  19. Interesting that BA offers a comp for Rodriguez as a young Eloy Jimenez at age 16. If Det does sign him perhaps he'll be roaming Detroit's OF by the time Riley Greene is age 29-30.............and playing for the Dodgers
  20. I strongly doubt Detroit was ever a real consideration for Sasaki.
  21. The Pistons were 4-36 through 40 last year. Now at 21-19, 17 game improvement. Stating the obvious that Trajan and JB have done an amazing job transforming this team. After a very long decade it's finally great to be a Detroit sports fan - all of the teams might soon be contending
  22. JV was injured early last year (neck?) and admitted he rushed back. Maybe because he wanted to hit the vesting innings quota? Who knows. He's 41, but I don't count him out. Nobody prepares harder than JV. That said, I too think this is new era, and JV would have mostly been a distraction.
  23. I'm only allowed to use the word zeitgeist twice a year. I can use asymptote once every 4 years. I still refrain from the word pillage
  24. I have a hunch Harris did kick the tires and JV declined. As others posted, he is all about 100% focus. In det he would have reporters in his face constantly with the same questions about "returning home." Maybe we'll never find out. Another issue may have been this current squad finally took steps to forge an identity. JV would have been bringing the past era that was a great era, but long gone. The rebuild has been beyond frustrating at times. Hopefully the team continues to build on their new identity and get back to work, starting in about 6 weeks
  25. Pistons in the 8th seed now, and only 1.5 games behind the 4th seed. It's been a very long time since I've had positive thoughts about the recent Pistons. Probably not since the SVG "build a f***ing wall!" game.
