  1. Ah yes, like the years I took note when Victor Reyes' ops climbed above .700 and it was significant. All of those AAAA years, finally in the rear view mirror. Chicago has a long rebuild coming
  2. Maybe Det can pluck Steve Stone from Chicago as well. Imho he paired very well with Benetti. When Det played Chicago in years past, I would often choose their broadcast to watch the games Edit - dangit, meant to post in Det regular season thread
  3. I could see his name popping up for potential manager positions. I hope Det does whatever it can to keep him long term
  4. I saw that.....and my immediate reaction was that I know Johnny realizes how fortunate he is to have that gig. I've enjoyed my career, but man, I'd love to have a job like that for Detroit sports
  5. AJ pushing all the right buttons. 4 diff DH, and in 4 PH they went 3-3 and a sac fly. And it's great to see Brieske emerge as a longer-term piece. Having guys like Holton and Brieske who can pitch at any point of the game and go longer than 1, so valuable. Had butterflies in my stomach for a Tigers game for the first time in many years
  6. Ohtani first player ever to hit 3 hr and have 2 sb in the same game
  7. Time to break out my alphorn
  8. It's crazy that Det is now just 4.5 games behind Baltimore.
  9. Baez and Zimmermann, both all-time busts. And I confess I was pumped with both signings when they happened.
  10. I think this run may impact free agency. Perhaps Det won't need to grossly overpay, and Det could emerge as a positive destination. Their run is hopefully/likely just beginning.
  11. This has been one of the most unique positive Tigers runs of my lifetime. 1984 35-5 will always be #1, but this run, after selling at the deadline has been a beautiful head scratcher.
  12. FYI Hiller and Hernandez did both win the AL "Fireman of the year" award, before it was changed to rolaids.
  13. Gotta give props to Bobby Whitt Jr. First shortstop ever to have 2 30/30 seasons. And he is all of 24 years old.
  14. I don't think I've been this excited about the Tigers since they last won a playoff round in 2013.
  15. Watched a recap on youtube and at one point, I think it was after Vierling drove in the 7th run, a KC announcer said something like "we haven't seen these Tigers before, these Tigers have teeth." Was interesting to hear an opponent comment on how the Tigers are playing different these days
  16. Reflecting on when AA hired Gardy, and said the rebuild would require patience and could take 5 years. Little did we know how long it would actually take. To me it feels like they're walking through the door into a new era. A joy to be a fan right now.
  17. If you can afford it, you can order the playoff package with mlbtv
  18. When is Jobe's first start in Toledo?
  19. Yanks beat Boston on a Judge 7th inning grand salami
  20. With Hurter's motion and his use of off speed pitches, he sort of looks like Kenny Rogers on the mound to me. I read about him last year, and Montero. Had no idea they'd both have a shot at being future rotation guys. With Jobe and maybe Hamm, the depth looks to come from within. Lions and Tigers and Wings, oh my!
  21. The 1st rd of the 2019 draft was very strong
  22. Ohtani is now at 47-47 with 16 games left in his quest for 50-50
  23. I agree. And Detroit's farm is still stronger than KC. Next year should be an even tighter race in the Central
  24. Sweeny's ops is up to .756. 62 ab 4 HR and 2 SB. If he keeps that up to close out the year I doubt Harris goes fishing for a replacement, and I suspect he starts at ss to start next season. From the eye test he looks like he belongs, and stats are validating that at this point.
  25. What if more than 2 teams tie? I don't know head to head records between Boston, Seattle, KC and MN. What if Det, Seattle and MN tie for final spot and Det wins head to head with Seattle, and Seattle wins head to head with MN?
