AJ pushing all the right buttons. 4 diff DH, and in 4 PH they went 3-3 and a sac fly.
And it's great to see Brieske emerge as a longer-term piece. Having guys like Holton and Brieske who can pitch at any point of the game and go longer than 1, so valuable. Had butterflies in my stomach for a Tigers game for the first time in many years
I think this run may impact free agency. Perhaps Det won't need to grossly overpay, and Det could emerge as a positive destination. Their run is hopefully/likely just beginning.
This has been one of the most unique positive Tigers runs of my lifetime. 1984 35-5 will always be #1, but this run, after selling at the deadline has been a beautiful head scratcher.
Watched a recap on youtube and at one point, I think it was after Vierling drove in the 7th run, a KC announcer said something like "we haven't seen these Tigers before, these Tigers have teeth." Was interesting to hear an opponent comment on how the Tigers are playing different these days
Reflecting on when AA hired Gardy, and said the rebuild would require patience and could take 5 years. Little did we know how long it would actually take. To me it feels like they're walking through the door into a new era. A joy to be a fan right now.
With Hurter's motion and his use of off speed pitches, he sort of looks like Kenny Rogers on the mound to me.
I read about him last year, and Montero. Had no idea they'd both have a shot at being future rotation guys. With Jobe and maybe Hamm, the depth looks to come from within. Lions and Tigers and Wings, oh my!
Sweeny's ops is up to .756. 62 ab 4 HR and 2 SB. If he keeps that up to close out the year I doubt Harris goes fishing for a replacement, and I suspect he starts at ss to start next season. From the eye test he looks like he belongs, and stats are validating that at this point.
What if more than 2 teams tie? I don't know head to head records between Boston, Seattle, KC and MN. What if Det, Seattle and MN tie for final spot and Det wins head to head with Seattle, and Seattle wins head to head with MN?
I agree. We are seeing some of the fruits of AA. He wasn't all bad. Include Skubal in that. Harris is likely adding huge to player development, but AA brought in some goods.
On a sports talk show several years ago, someone (maybe Bowden?) said an unnamed mlb gm said AA had no idea how to negotiate trades and his personality was almost intolerable. I wanted him gone then. That's where DD shines.
Captain obvious here, but Montero's spin can be elite. Sure was this eve. I pray the Tigers decide to pay to keep Skubal. With Olson, Jobe, maybe Montero, and maybe Madden, Mize, Hamm, etc.....they could have an elite rotation for several years.
