I wish relief pitchers weren’t so mercurial. Let’s face it, just about every relief pitcher is a failed starter. So you’re already starting at a deficit. Maybe we expect too much from these guys.

What kind of voodoo did it require to get a three run lead? Do all their base now belong to us?

I can’t believe that what we’ve seen the last 13 games is more indicative than what we saw for the last 120. But I don’t have an explanation for why the pitching and hitting have both collapsed simultaneously. We just have to trust that people at the helm in the front office, in the dugout, and on the field can deal with this. There’s little choice in this matter anyway. As Edward R. Murrow famously ended his broadcasts during the dark days of WWII, “Good night, and good luck."

This is why we can’t have nice things.

This is a freakish collapse. I could see stumbling. Stumbling is bound to happen. But this exceeds stumbling. I hope they somehow pull out of it and this becomes a bad memory.

Maybe Smokes was right when he said that winning creates good chemistry in a team, implying that the reverse is not true.

If Riley doesn’t hit into a double play, maybe Tork can hit another meaningless home run.

At least somebody got six runs. Basically the way it works now is that all our all our base belong to whomever we play.

The guys who overperformed last year and came back from injuries have underperformed. The guys who overperformed earlier this year have stopped performing. The pitching doesn’t even deserve to be called “erratic,“ it’s just plain bad. I’m not sure bouncing back to mediocrity is even possible now. None of this makes much sense. It just seems unreal.

I’m tired of feeling like this.

Well, in another five games we’ll have a chance at a win.
