Ditto.  My plan as such is to do as much good as possible where it can be done and not violate the oaths we've taken because we are responsible for our own honor and can't help it if the system is rewarding the worst violators of those oaths.  I was planning to return to Michigan when the wife retires from federal service in a couple years.  So, we shall see.

Always good advice, even if it came from a lapsed Anglican. :classic_wink:

I'd prefer Kavanaugh, Barrett  and Roberts not be JOTSCOTUS, but that said, they are not in the same class of crazy as Thomas and Alito and are occasionally going to contribute to a reasonable result. Gorsuch is also his own kind of crazy, but over different things than Alito and Thomas. (EDITED)

Looks like we're gonna get our taxes to fund religious schools sooner than later. And when I say "religious", I mean only one religion.

Which religion is that?  Is it all Christians or do they leave out the Catholics?

Good point. With the mode that Trump is in now, it could get even worse.

Those guys have 10 years left or so. The replacement would have 40.

OK, that makes sense.  I wasn't sure what you were getting at in the original post.

I didn't see this discussed anywhere, which may be a symptom of the constant fire hose, but didn't the Supreme Court just side with Donald Trump over Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution?

My understanding per a Steven Vladek skeet last night was that it's a fair/reasonable delay in the decision.

I would think he wouldn't be chill if it was really bad.

It's a little bit of "even though it was you that broke it, but we know you can't fix it as fast as you broke it"

Says the guy who ruled that Presidents are immune from prosecution and corporations are people.

Roberts is another one of those guys who didn't appreciate that you can't keep giving stuff away and then just have it stop because you want it to. All these conservative who thought they could ride the Tiger who are now getting eaten - go screw yourselves.

MAGA is pissed at Barrett again.

Since I have no clue where exactly the"center" is in the country anymore she seems a bit closer to being a "strict constructionist" than the two geriatric grifters on the bench

Today's decision means that, at least for now, Oklahoma cannot establish and fund a Catholic charter school. Barrett's recusal made all the difference.

But another state will likely engineer a similar case in which Barrett does not have to recuse. So this story isn't over.

I kind of think a blue state should rush to create the next test case by establishing a charter madrasa to remind the conservative justices that it isn't just Catholics who would benefit from state-funded religious schools ...
