Can you imagine if the Chair Company didn't get picked up for a second season and it ended the way it did?  I love a finale that opens up more loose ends than it ties up.

Just today someone told me about that show.
 

Vince Gilligan said many times they would come up with things and have no idea where it ended.  They would make it up as they go along.

I've been rewatching Tires on Netflix for the third time. It's such a funny show, and each episode is only 20-25 minutes, so it's easy to breeze through.

"I'm trying to get these bikini girls into this shipping container. It's harder than you'd think."

I'm in the middle of rewatching Larry Sanders, one episode each weekday lunch. I'm in the middle of season five and I have got Chair Company on the docket next.

E-7 of Pluribus was really incredible last night. There are only two more episodes left this season and the next one won’t begin for 1 1/2 to 2 years from what I’ve read.

A lot of people have remarked that this episode is boring because it doesn’t move the story along very much, but it deepens the emotional and psychological stakes of the major characters who deal with crushing isolation and sorrow differently.

I don’t know if it says something about how women and men deal with this differently or simply how different people deal with it.

****, I thought it was on Fridays they got released.  We just putzed around and then watched a Ted Lasso.  We have wedding crap this weekend so it won't be until probably Sunday we get to watch.

Yeah, it's really annoying to me that I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about the slow pacing of the show and saying that "nothing" happens.

I understand wanting to be “entertained.” When I want to be entertained alone I re-watch the first 15 minutes of Clint Eastwood‘s High Plains Drifter for the umpteenth time, which is incredibly exciting, and I skip past the rape scene because once was enough.

Gilligan is not trying to merely “entertain.“ He instead wants you to be also seduced by the intriguing internal dramas the people in the show are experiencing, which are profound.

I’m thinking he also wants to critique unreflective “group think” which we all get involved in.

The older I get, the more these long delays between seasons piss me off. I could be dead before the next season starts.

This is Breaking Bad Fly episode writ sci-fi.

I found it interesting that both Carol and Manuoso gave in to the force (or whatever it’s called) at the end, the former through crushing ennui and the latter through mortal desperation. Is this a precursor to their warming up to the idea of subsuming themselves to it? I could possibly see this for Carol who lost a loved one to it. Not so much for Manuoso, who thought the mother lost to it was “a bitch”.

Of course, if Carol gIves in, that would seem to shorten the series a bit, wouldn’t it? Although maybe the focus shifts completely to Manuoso at that point. It would be a neat bait and switch that I don’t believe could happen until after a season finale cliffhanger.

If the force (or whatever it’s called) is an analogy for modern-day fascism, as some have speculated, then I would guess at some point it’s going to have to stop granting wishes, like some interstellar genie, to Carol et al and start demanding some things in return for letting them live their lives to the degree the force will allow and the people will accept.

Not in the same boat (but who the hell knows?). It bugs me a bit (Severance) but I also understand the scheduling challenges these days. Not a full time job for these people, and they have to have schedules aligned. It's the price for quality.

So, episode eight of the nine episode season of Pluribus drops at 7 PM Thursday night on Apple TV. And once again it only is officially dropping on Friday because Apple goes by GMT.

There’s a lot of riding on this episode and a lot of dissension about the direction in which the program is heading depending on how you interpret the end of episode seven - which I will not relate for those of you not caught up to the most recent episodes. I’m actually pretty excited.

To quote François Truffaut‘s remark in Close Encounters “Listen to me, Major Walsh, it is an event sociologique."

That is so totally cool and unexpected, although when she did her dramatic wind up to pitch the shocking truth about what the joined are eating I had the feeling she was going to be immediately deflated and she was.

But the whole  thing with him was just a rifle shot out of the blue, actually more of a howitzer blast out of the blue.
