The mental image of the Red Wings mafia led by Yzerman and Draper stepping in to stop Larkin from being nice to his teammates is certainly a funny one.

I have been hesitant to post this but I've seen a rumor that Larkin was a **** to non-Seider/Raymond young guys, especially Kasper.  But it seems odd honestly, maybe there is some truth but even as much as I dislike the guy it is tough to imagine Larkin big league-ing young guys.  But also we don't know these people at all and stranger things have happened....

I don't think Larkin is much of a leader on or off the ice.  That's not a terrible criticism, the majority of people are more comfortable being part of the team rather than the face of it.

I believe that's why he liked playing on the Olympic team and is now seeking something akin to that again.   He can be a very good player and not worry about being anything else.

I was not a believer in the March curse as of March 1, 2026. As of March 31 I was convinced there is some kind of weird dynamic with the team. Did having THE CAPTAIN™️ around somehow put Larkin or others on edge? I don’t know. But with the hometown, home grown captain leaving the way he is, there was clearly something toxic between them. It is hard to imagine this didn’t impact the team.

some of this discussion about what Larkin did or does or doesn't do seems to overstate the role. There is a head coach in the room and a management team creating the roster.  A player may wear a 'C' but there is no decision making power that comes with it, so there isn't much he can do affect players' lives in any important way or drive  guys to go anywhere they don't want to. Most of that has to come via coaching because that's where the play design, the playing time and line assignments all come from. It's true the wings as a team don't seem to have much heart when games get tough, but I think you address that by finding players with heart in the first place. Thinking that putting a 'C' on one of your better players and expecting that to elevate the play of guys who don't have the drive or talent to elevate their play themselves is sort a hopeless expectation - not gonna happen. Three successive NHL coaches can't get a Michael Rasmussen to play hard but now that's Dylan Larkin's fault?

And so it goes both ways. If you are Larkin and there are bunch of neer-do-wells on that bench and management is dissing you as failed leader because they don't raise their game while you are having enough trouble playing through a knee injury this Spring, maybe you decide you are caught in a set of impossible expectations and it's time to turn the page.

Nobody outside the room knows who is at fault for anything.

yup - the events are opaque, so we all sort of project our own prejudices about how we expect things should be, which is fine - it's a discussion board - as long we don't take any of our speculations seriously. 🤔

Raddysh to the leafs in a sign and trade.  dont know what the assets are going the other way, but he's supposed to be getting 8x8.

interesting for edvinsson.  ed is younger, but with less offense on his resume.

Just a 5th rounder back to Tampa. Don’t comes down to whether or not 8x8 is a good contract.

I thought Raddysh would get more money because free agency is so bad this season.  But then again you're paying for one exceptional contract year at age 29, it'll be interesting to see how that 8 year deal ages.

so the leafs see last year as an aberration and are going for it while they still have matthews in his prime.

Maybe Cossa is just a turd out there, being named to two AHL All-Star teams in two seasons, but it is hard to imagine him ever saying to Stevie, “Thank you for believing in me.”

Ottawa seems to be dropping itself out of contention in the East for next year. Or at the very least reckoning with the reality that Tkachuk would never re-sign with them in a million years.

(It is interesting and kind of hilarious to see the Canadian press relentlessly harass the American players and then cry when they want to leave and play for American teams.)

I think we should expect Larkin to get a better package than Tkachuk.
