Uhhhhhhhh.  Byram is nice offensively but....he'll be an UFA after next season and can't play defense.  What the hell lol

The first few times I saw reports about this trade I read it as 4th round.

4th overall!?!

If Bowen Byrum, who plays no defense and is a poor man's Paul Coffey offensively, can command a top 5 pick, so too can Larkin or DeBrincat.

byram is 25.  larkin is 30.

and it would require you finding an organization as stupid as chicago to do it.

athletic grades for that trade for chicago: D, D, D-.

But keep hope alive!  there are plenty of dumb organizations out there.

The value paid by the teams acquiring players suggests that Larkin will fetch a hefty price

byram didnt have a no trade clause.

Byram is also a UFA next year and... here's the key part...he's not very good at playing defense.

Larkin is...again ...a cost controlled premium player who mans the most important position.

He is worth more tham Byram or Tkachuk

if there is an open market where anyone can trade for brady tkachuk, he fetches more than #9 and some late firsts.  but there wasnt an open market.

the same will be true for larkin.

Ultimately...Larkin doesn't dictate anything.  Yzerman doesn't HAVE to trade him anywhere.   If he wants to get traded he has to work with Yzerman, play in Detroit or sit.

What would you trade for nick schmaltz?

Nothing. I want to rebuild and tank next season. Playing along though, I would not trade Larkin straight up for Schmaltz. Schmaltz has only had one 70 point season in his career and only twice cracked 60 points or more. Larkin has had 3 seasons of 70 points or more and 3 more with 60 points or more. I'd expect a 1st to be thrown in if Larkin were traded to Utah for Schmaltz.

i dont want schmaltz.  my point is that schmaltz is not far off larkin and you wouldnt give up crap for schmaltz.  its the same analysis other use for larkin.

Daily communication. Onus is on Billy G.

what could minnesota give other teams other than wellstedt?  and what is a young goalie with a limited track record get you?

if larkin will only go to minnesota, you all should be ready to be underwhelmed with the return (given everyone's posts here, i think you are all going to be underwhelmed).  they gave up all their assets for hughes.  they have nothing left.

can you get a high first for wellstedt?  from whom?

If Larkin will only go to Minnie then he can stay in Detroit if SY can't find a third party to assist in the trade.

Scmaltz is not Larkin's equal

yup - and even if Yzerman decides to go long term rebuild, what kind of pick would the WIld's '27 1st rounder be? - they should be a top team after adding Hughes and Larkin.

.90 ppg by both in the only season he came close to matching Larkin.

Larkin has the far better contract..Schmaltz will be earning $8 mil a year for three years longer than Larkin.  Larkin will be 34 when his deal ends...Schmatz will be 38

Larkin is clearly the more valuable asset

Yzerman doesn't have to trade him

come close?  he's been almost larkin's equal the previous two seasons and outperformed him last year.

they are very close comps.

if minny and detroit are "negotiating" heavily, what could minnesota possibly trade to detroit - or get from a third team - that would possibly meet the high standard youve set for what larkin is worth?
